Issue with pantry and fridge next to each other (fridge not CD)?
Comments (7)I have the exact configuration of a full depth refrigerator (ours is SxS, but the door situation is the same idea) next to a pantry. I was worried. I checked. I measured. I worried. It turned out perfect. The pantry door opens beyond 90 degrees. Actually it opens to its full stop which may be 110 degrees. Here's why. The door is about 19 inches wide, which sticks out WAY past the closed refrigerator door. So the cabinet pull can only hit air and since the door approaches the refrigerator at an angle, it goes past the refrigerator door before it extends as far to the side as the refrigerator. I don't know if that makes much sense. I'll post a picture if you haven't already decided against it. I do have a 1 1/4 or 1 1/2 inch refrigerator side panel instead of 3/4 inch so that helps too. I'm not sure if I can hit the refrigerator with the cabinet door if I try intentionally. I think I can, but my point here was that the cabinet door would open past 90 degrees which is necessary for a pull out. Having the refrigerator stick out past the cabinets (standard depth ref.) has another side benefit. It's harder to hit the cabinets with the refrigerator door too. In my case my refrigerator has a stop BEFORE the cabinets. I can force it further, but it stops automatically before the cabinets. If it were counter depth it would probably be too close to the cabinets when open and might hit them. - Jim...See MoreHelp with appliances next to each other with different handles
Comments (9)I was watching "Sarah's House" earlier this week (she's a Canadian celebrity designer) and I snorted when I heard her say that kitchen appliances should all match and come from the same brand. I love Sarah's designs but she obviously doesn't think too much about the functionality of appliances. I, too, have an aversion to matchy matchy appliances. My Miele DW, Capital Range and Kitchen Aid refrigerator (like yours) all have the same finish but different handles. They look great in my kitchen and more importantly, I love how they perform!...See Morestove and fridge against each other? kitchen layout question.
Comments (7)It's hard to tell without a layout. For example, a lot of people have full sized appliances when a slightly smaller size would work just as well. If you have a 30" range, do you need one? Or would a 24" one work just as well. Same thing with the ref, can a 30" become a 24"? If the pantry is also shaved by 3", does a 15" drawer bank help the entire kitchen or not? I have rented/had several kitchens where the range had counter only on one side or was floating by itself. It wasn't a hardship - just not as nice as have some counter on both sides. I'm not keen on the idea of having the range hemmed in on both sides. It's your kitchen tho, and you get to do what you think is best....See MoreDon't Put The Microwave Next To The Fridge
Comments (14)I love having the MW next to the fridge, but I have a single-door fridge, which opens away from the MW cabinet. On the other side of the fridge I have a tall stack of drawers--base cabinet plus three drawers, but in 6 years I don't recall anyone opening the fridge while someone else had a drawer extended, or vice versa. OTOH, I've filled in a ding in the sheet rock behind our back door several times, because someone keeps moving the wood block I use for a wall guard, and when the door is thrown open without the guard to stop it, it makes a nice impression of the lock turner thingy....See MoreM V
