Real life with CD fridge?
Comments (8)I'm in the same place you are and am *trying my best* to hold out for the new line of Samsung fridges in hopes their new CD FD model will have the newer technology thinner insulation as their 29 cu. ft. model fridges do. The Samsung CD FD fridge is - from what I can tell - the largest on the market in terms of fresh foods space (which is of most importance to us since we have an extra freezer in the basement) and I like that unlike all counter-depth fridges, theirs will hold a couple of gallons in the door - not just one. Also their ice and water in door works a little differently so doesn't eat up too much room - and also there's ice on the bottom of the freezer that fills up the tray too so you have ice in a couple of different areas in case it's needed. I just hope I don't wait and wait and then find out their new model doesn't use the new thinner insulation either! But even if it doesn't, 23 cu. ft. for a counter-depth french door fridge ain't too shabby. Our current one (family of 5!) is from 1990 and is only 18.2 cu. ft! We'll only be gaining 3 cu. ft. in the fresh foods part of the fridge (as opposed to freezer) but we'll also have the ice and water in door which will help us since usually we have a huge glass container of chilled water taking up space in the fridge, as well as a couple of gallons of milk and half-gallons of juice....See MorePlease Help - Viking CD vs. Kitchenaid Fridge
Comments (3)Whirlpool owns both KitchenAid and Jenn-Air. The Viking is made by Viking in an old Whirlpool factory using Whirlpool tooling and Whirlpool designs. The fridges are almost identical if not identical mechanically. I like the Jenn-Air version best with their pro handles. They have lots of finishes including oil rubbed bronze which looks nothing like ORB hardware or faucets but I would take a look at JA dealer. Overall I think they are good fridges that are basically the same. Buy the one you feel the most comfortable buying based on looks, condition and price....See MoreDo I need a filler b/w full-overlay pantry & counterdepth fridge?
Comments (14)brenjun: my pantry is 42 inches wide and holds soooo much food. Being that wide, the doors are large, but we love it. My cabinet maker insisted that I use the blum metal drawers (as opposed to wood) because they are stronger for such a wide rollout. He also used heavy duty slides. We use one of the wide drawers for pots and pans (the range is just across the aisle from the pantry) and the bottom drawer for bagged food (chips, bagged pastas, etc). And I think Johnny makes excellent points about rollout shelves vs a pullout pantry. I think the pullout style pantry is only practical for a fairly narrow pantry, although I've never used this type of pantry. Both styles have their pros and cons. chihauhuagirl: The note pad is from mayfair lane and they have this foam back that 'sticks' to stainless without any adhesive, so there's no residue. You just press it on. If it loses it's stick, you just wipe it down with a a little water, and it sticks again. They work great for us. The website was sold recently, and I have not ordered after the sale. I've linked it below, and I have no affiliation with it other than liking the list pads. Here is a link that might be useful: note pads that stick to stainless...See MoreNeed help resolving fridge next to wall issue
Comments (21)I will go check out some of the fridges, and see if I can find one that will work with just a 3"-4" filler. Oceanbaby, if you haven't yet purchased your fridge, this might not be a problem for you. As paulines and others have mentioned here when this has come up, there are refrigerators that require less door opening space than others. Some are fine at 90 degrees, others just a little more. Get the info on these fridges from those folks and start shopping! Like rhome410, I have only had refrigerators that required the door to open more than 90 degrees. A lot of other folks have also expressed their frustration with a design that didn't allow them access into their refrigerator drawers. You should also find out what fridges they had. My current fridge (a KA counter-depth side-by-side) requires the door to be open much more than 90 degrees to open the drawers at all--not just for cleaning. I would not want to have to remove the shelves on the door every time I wanted in one of my drawers. As much as I love this fridge, I would have to tell you to avoid it in your kitchen....See Moreci_lantro
