Cast iron with enamel...

Hi; I searched old posts but didn't seen an answer to my question; I apologize if this is something that's been discussed.

We just got a 3.5 qt enameled Le Creuset braiser as a gift, and I'm confused by it. The information booklet says that the whole piece is enameled, including the rim. However, our piece doesn't appear to be enameled on the rims - the surfaces that touch each other when you put the lid on seem to be raw cast iron. My mom mentioned that she chose this brand because of the enameled rims, and that without the enamel the rims will rust unless seasoned.

Can anyone shed light on this? I've tried to find pictures of what the cookware should look like, but can't get anything close up. Am I misunderstanding what is meant by "rim"?

Thanks so much,

Lara
