When they re did our bathroom a few years back, before I had a cell phone, I wanted one in there because my elderly Mother might need help. Now the nursing home calls me if something has come up. I too have my cell phone in the bathroom with me now. You know the home phone only rings when you are in the bathroom. Mine is also my laundry room.

I wouldn't dream of having a phone in my bathroom! If my phone rings while I'm in there, I surely wouldn't answer it anyway.

I have 3 bathrooms and NO phones in them. I don't have one in the greenhouse, either. I figure, if I am in either of these places, the caller can leave a message. If they choose not to leave a message, they didn't need anything too badly!

No, not yet. But back, when Margaret was still alive, she did. I thought it was the smartest thing, at her age.

Thankfully she never needed it while in there.

I stayed in a hotel with a phone in the bathroom once.
Years ago, when I was working in a medical clinic, it had been a very busy morning and finally I was able to get into the restroom. While I was taking care of business my co-worker started pounding on the door telling me I had a phone call. I told her to take a number but she insisted I had to take the call immediately. (I didn't.) I found out the called was the wife of the doc I worked for and she was insistent my co-worker interrupt whatever I was doing to talk to her. She was a very pushy woman. I can't remember what she wanted but it was NOT important.
I am glad I didn't have a phone in that bathroom.

I don't even bring my phone into the house. I keep it in the truck all the time.

I have one in the bathroom. Our phone came with 3 extension phones and since we had phones in the basement and dining room, it got put in there.

No. I have caller ID and an answering machine. If the phone rings when I am in the bathroom I will return the call (if need be) when I get out. Nothing is that important that you need to answer or make a call from the bathroom.

No I don't have a phone in the bathroom. It seems unnecessary to me. I am reminded about a very embarrassing moment. I was in the process of renting an apartment and was staying with my mom temporarily. My new landlord called for me and my mom said "She is in the bathtub, I will take the phone to her". I just about died of embarrassment because that was just TMI and the landlord was in my age group and very, very good looking and he was single.

I think the idea of having a phone in the bathroom is not for normal calls, but in case you, or someone, might have a fall and need help.

I believe there are statistics that say more accidents happen in the home, mostly the bathroom, than anywhere else.

We only have 1 regular phone (connected to a phone line), the others are all satellites that just plug into an electrical outlet. I don't keep a phone in the bathroom, but bring one in there with me when I take a bath or if I'm expecting an important call.

All our phones are what we call "space" phones (cordless). I try to remember to bring a phone to the bathroom with me. Invariably the phone will ring while I'm curling my hair or putting on make up so it's nice to have it in reach. My make up counter is in the bathroom...the "throne" is a separate room.

There is a phone jack in the large bath, but no phone. Just a tub that never gets used, as the shower is in the small bath. I usually have my cell phone in my pocket, so it normally wouldn't be a problem. If I fell in the little bathroom, they would have to cut the door down to get to me anyway!

Friend works for the phone company, says that if you only have one phone in the house, it should be in the bathroom.

When I was growing up, it would never fail that my dad would be in there and there would be a phone call for him. One day, he came home with a basic black phone and ran phone line and installed a phone in the bathroom!!! It was great when I was older tho and wanted to talk on the phone with some privacy....I would just go into the bathroom and talk! LOL

It was kinda the same story with the guy that lived across the street. He always said that he made his most important phone calls while sitting 'on the throne'! LOL I haven't been into the house or the bathroom in many years to see if it is still there.

Yes, we have one in the master bathroom. It's a very large room, and if I'm in the shower and the phone rings, it's easier to answer there than it is to run to the phone by the bed. Hubs used to work out of town during the week, and was only home from Friday night to Sunday night, and he was on the road a lot so it was important that I not miss his calls. It was also important for me to be close to a phone in case anything happened and I needed to make an outgoing call. We also have a phone in the garage. When you're in the garage, you wouldn't hear a phone ringing in the house, or, if you did, you wouldn't get to it in time.

The second and third bathrooms don't have phones, though.

We keep a phone in each bathroom. I have rarely answered the phone while in the BR only when there was an emergency and very important calls expected. I did make a call after I fell and hurt my leg badly. I had just put the extra phone in there as a joke about 3 days before the fall. Thank goodness because no one was scheduled to come home for hrs. I would have been in bad shape had I not had the phone in there.

When I moved into my first apartment, I had to fight the phone company to get a rotary desk phone rather than a slimline wall phone. They chanted mantra about how much less space is taken up and I said I didn't care - how do I take that into the bathroom with me? Same ordeal in the second apartment. They tried to tell me I didn't have a phone jack for anything but a wall phone. Wrong. And when I bought the house, one of the first projects was to run phone lines to all the bedrooms, the bathroom, the basement, the garage and I added phone lines in the living room. I do NOT run for a phone. Period. The problem now is I have to add filters on some of them following the addition of DSL so not all are covered but they should still work for a 911 call and I'll cover the lines. Few people have my cell but I sometimes will have it on me when I use the bathroom, but not always. When I'm expecting an important call I'll bring the cell and/or cordless now. And when I'm on one of the patios I'll usually have a cordless with me if it's needed or wanted. I'm not usually a big phone talker but there's times I like to have it handy.
