Thanks so much for all of your suggestions. I promise to post pics of the furniture once the floor is refinished, and we set the furniture up in the room. Staceyneil--the furniture is squared off, not rounded. Also, I love the second inspiration pic you included and keep going back to it. We adopted a child from China and decorating the room with an Asian vibe would be meaningful for us and for friends/family who would use the guest room--how nice to be able to include that with my grandparents' furniture in the same space! Franksmom--I don't sew but could probably manage to hem up a piece of fabric for pretty curtains, when we get that far. I'm with you on the second-hand shopping. I enjoy it for the hunt, budget issues aside. Deeinohio--excellent point about taking it a step at a time. We'll set up the furniture in the room, stop and post pics, and then continue. :) jeanne_gallo--Your office sounds beautiful. We used the color in the office of our last home, a 1916 bungalow, and enjoyed it very much. It will be interesting to use the same color but for an entirely different space and style here. Good point about using just one of the dressers. I'll try the cedar chest next to the bed and see how that looks and functions. Yes, I'm seeing lamp and comfy chair shopping in my future. Do you think duvet-type bedding might work? I've been admiring those and also European-type feather beds--are they actually the same thing? I'm enjoying a project that has some starting perimeters (furniture and paint color) but is also somewhat of a blank slate.

Have any of you tried or heard of this iGranite app? I just heard of it, and apparently you upload a picture of your kitchen and then choose the granite color you want to try out and it will show what your counters look like with that. It is sponsored by Granite Transformations for counter re-dos, so I don't imagine it would have any exotic granite choices, but it might be helpful to get a feel for how a particular color or type of granite might look. I know you are not painting your brick but this house immediately stood out in my mind. The brick color is very similar to yours and the ivory painted trim on this house I find beautiful to enhancing the brick. I realize this is a traditional home but color is color. The front door and the french doors are a reddish wood but you could paint your front door in puce - a color that is coming back in fashion. It would look great on your front door. The current green scheme looks tired and is dated. What are you trying to accomplish? If you want to know what colors are going to look like in your home you may be out of luck or have to spend a lot of money to get the perfect setup. Go into any store that sells TVs and look at them. Do any two display the same colors the same way? A truly color accurate monitor is necessary - A computer with a high end color accurate GPU is also necessary. Beyond that I would suggest getting an external monitor calibration tool like this one You will also need a high end camera that has been properly calibrated and shoot your photos in Raw. Adobe Photoshop is the gold standard for photo editing including color manipulation. But even with the best technology, we still have to work with the fact that when you take a picture the colors are altered by the color of the light from the flash. You will never have professional photography lighting in your home, so you would need to be able to adjust colors based on the actual lighting that is in your home. Once you get to absolute accuracy you still need to account for the difference in measurement of color and human perception of color. Not one and the same. You don't even see colors the same every time you look at something. Your mood and the amount of dopamine being generated by your brain changes how vividly you see color. In a slump - everything looks more gray.
