Tibbrix, I love the idea of painting the ceiling in the DR. A new chandy is probably 6 months out unfortunately. I have to do my re-designs in small doses so either hubby doesn't notice or not overwhelmed with my expenses! As far as the rod height, I see what you are saying but my ceiling are only 8 ft and I think going lower makes them seem lower. In my eat in kitchen I originally had panels hung right at the window trim and then raised it to the crown, looks so much better. Jeannie, yes I was planning on getting thicker rods, probably wood rods. I threw these panels up when we bought the house as they were fairly inexpensive and I could not spend a lot on window treatments at the time. We were in the midst of a nearly full house remodel and finishing touches was just not in the budget. Now I am focusing on the small things. I think my plan is to do the plantation shutter and then either the RH panels or something similar. I like the idea of going lighter. Everyone is so helpful, I really appreciate the ideas/insight!

I had a similar arrangement in our bedroom 3 houses ago! I used some Sari fabric and hung them with clips on a rod for the main windows. For the skylights I used the same sari fabric and sewed two rod pockets at either end. I then used narrow tension rods to stretch the fabric and cover the skylight. The windows had hunter douglas duettes for light control and the skylights had a roller shade for light control. Both white.

I think you certainly can. You would just want the treatments to coordinate. Your kitchen sounds lovely. You may want to consider other options besides verticals for your slider. Many people do verticals, but lots of people do not like them and take them down. I had verticals at one time. They were plastic, and I did not like them. A couple of them broke. I hung a rod and bought themal drapes on sale through JC Penneys hung with clip rings, and I have been much happier.

Thermal functionality (keep chill out in winter, afternoon sun out during summer) is important to me Rule out plantation shutters…no thermal. In your photo, all your window trims are at different heights. You need to hang the rod the same for all windows. For dining room side window and bay front window, choose thermal lined to the floor panels which you can close when needed. Windows over sink…Roman shade, thermal lined, hung at the same height as the others. Good example…all treatments hung at the same height.(Roman will have to be an outside mount). Same fabric…
