I'd love to hear a little more about your UV roller shades, Imhappy. It sounds like they work well for you. If you were to do paperwork in your living room when the sun is blaring, could you do so comfortably? My kiddos do their schoolwork in here during the day, so I'd like it to stay bright, but not uncomfortably so. I hope the shades I linked will work well for you! : ) The reviews were mostly positive, but still a bit mixed. Thanks for the picture, Annie. Yes, I'm thinking valances might really help the situation of the differing heights of the windows, too. (Seeing this picture is helpful. I thought I liked seeing the molding at the top of the window when the blinds are up. But when I look at this particular picture, it almost feels like the blinds are jammed against the ceiling to me. Hmmmmm...) The kids and I worked on this room yesterday. It was gloomy, gray, rainy day. Thus, new pictures! : ) We wound up swapping out the desk area (above) for the play area (below), but I left both photos here so you could see how the windows relate between the slider, small window and picture window. Please excuse the building supplies and cluttered storage shelving in the sw corner. We're thinking of wrapping the corner where these things are with bookshelves. And could I get a creativity point for using building materials "decoratively" behind the play shelves? LOL We have no garage right now, so our supplies are tucked here, there, and everywhere... (The small white shelf moved after I took the pictures, too.)

This is an old thread which I happened to come across in a search to hide vertical blinds in a rental--in my case, over sliding doors. Check with the HOA if you live where there is one because some do not allow the slats to be taken down in order to preserve the symmetry on the outside, especially in "cookie cutter" neighborhoods. Verticals may be dated--but then so are the ideas of many HOA's-- and the fines are very real and can be quite steep. If you rent, you may be charged by the owners for any fees incurred for the violation of some very antiquated and weird rule. And there are some owners who do not want them removed for whatever reason, which can become a hassle when inspection time comes up before rent renewal.

Thank you @Patricia Colwell that is what I needed. And I posted a pic of the space not sure if you are referring to entire space. This was the only pic I could get from someone elseks home, so please bear with me. My home is still to be built this year. Here is a clear one without the measurements. The patio doors are in the great room, the kitchen is to the right and the other area with windows is the kitchen nook. All 12 ft ceiling, so I need something fairly coordinated, but the nook will have blinds/drapes. I just do not want verticals for the patio doors. I am really not crazy about sheers either but would consider. I suppose if I do sheers they will need to be at the same height the side drapes will be. Not sure I can do anything that would sit at the top of the patio doors, unless they are solar shades but I don’t know if those would look good, either.
