Who use this red pepper mill?

my hubby like original taste,so I always grind pepper by myself,the old one died.

I need to find new mill,anyone have this red mill?Is it good?

flatlander, I'm one of the fans of this recipe --- I love it, and it's about the only thing I'm really stingy about giving away, because I find it a lot of work to make. I roast and peel the peppers one night and make & can the spread the next. I got a half-bushel of peppers and it made enough to last us about a year and a half. I serve it with crackers to guests, put it on burgers for myself. We use it on pasta, too. In fact, shh, don't tell, I know it's low-rent, but sometimes for dinner we just make Kraft Dinner and gussy it up with some roasted red pepper spread, and maybe some sausage, some green onion, a fresh tomato or two.... Found exactly the same thing as you about the pepper number, though --- where are they getting those giant peppers, Chernobyl? I go by the weight. In fact, I usually end up using 12 or 15 or more for 6 pounds, because Shepherd peppers, which are on the small side, are often both cheaper and tastier here than bells. Zabby

The Joy of Jams has a jalapeno, garlic and lime jelly called Hot Green Pepper-Lime Jelly (page 257) - mine is just starting to gel (no added pectin) but it was pretty hot. Same book (page 255) is a Red Pepper Jam (you can omit the hot peppers and use all sweet), page 256 is a Hot Red Pepper Jelly but I would think you could sub sweet peppers for hot. It has 2 3/4C of sugar to 1/3C vinegar (and 2 3/4C homemade apple pectin) so I think it could be sweet.

The pepper you are more than likely referring to is : Sili Labuyo http://www.marketmanila.com/archives/sili-chilli if you read on the comments, apparently someone commented that this is also known as the thai hot pepper. "By the way, here in the U.S. I bought my Siling Labuyo seeds from Seeds Savers Exchange. It costs $2.75 for 25 seeds and they are located in Iowa. Here is the web address: www.seedsavers.org. Harbor Freight (I know--odd place to buy a pepper mill) has a fantastic one. It's about $20, one of those tall, heavy brass ones. You can adjust the grind, and it has a cap that fits over the bottom, so the pepper doesn't drift out onto your table when the mill's not in use (as some can do). I have a number of pepper mills, but this one is definitely my favorite. I've seen the exact same peppermill in department stores for $80!

I don't know if they make different quality (models of) pepper grinders, but our Peugeot pepper grinder works very well (we have the smaller/matching sea salt grinder, too). I know some have coarseness settings, on ours the coarseness is somewhat adjustable by tightening the knob/ball on top of the turning cap.

I'm sorry, Laura! We've been having a lot of problems with spam that is a two sentence, non-specific post with a link, and yours looked so much like them!

Peugeot has a very good reputation.

I have the Atlas, which has been made in Greece for centuries. I bought it because it was well recommended and went so well with my kitchen, but now, having used it, I would have no other. The quality of the grind is exquisite, and the mechanism is incredibly smooth and easy to use. I ground pepper to use in the pepper shaker on the table using it because it's superior to the ground pepper one can buy.

I have a couple of Vic Firths. DH works for a restaurant supply co. and the VF rep loves to show me his newest stuff. The quality is great, and they've got great colors and shapes to choose from too.

DItto on the Atlas. I have both the copper pepper mill that I got 15 years ago, and the copper salt mill that I just got last year. The pepper mill still works as good as the day I got it, and has developed a nice patina over the years, yet will polish up nicely. Perfect grind and smooth to use- wouldn't own a different one!
