Last night I checked sunsets roots. It's so rootbound, I was able to lift the rootball from its pot in one piece. lol. Josh, I don't use Peat w/succulents...'no Peat no black soil'..Remember I mentioned that before? Josh, you don't fertilize in summer? Ever? Why only in winter, if you don't mind me asking??? Does fertilizing in winter include all plants? Succulents, tropicals and veggies? Snow in June!! That's amazing. Even flurries is IL in the month of June is rare. What's going on? Has this happened before? Is Foliage Pro the same as Dyna Gro? Do you add to soil or foliar spray? Howdy Whip. I mix mediums, keep in plastic containers and label. Succulent blends have different ingredients than tropical blends. The succulent mix is very gritty, even though Turface isn't included. If my mixes dried any faster, I'd be watering 24/7..lol. Jeff. It's true, I asked why my C. Jade Sunset isn't growing, well, rather, growing slow. But, other succulents are. 98% of my plants were started as babies, cuttings and sown seeds. When I got them, I didn't think ahead..Now, some are so large I don't know where to set and get sun, too..Especially Pachypodiums, E. Crown of Thorns and Agaves. Who'd have 'thunk?' Hello Lady. Yep, don't have time to work on plants today..going to my sister's for Thanksgiving dinner. Perhaps tomorrow I'll repot the sunset. Since it's so rootbound, locating from pot A to pot B won't cause problems. Thanks Hey Mike..As you know, we both have more plants than a small nursery, lol. Remember me telling you how fast my soil dries? If another soil method was used, particularly if it dried quicker than my mix, I'd be doing nothing but watering, lol. I mean, I have to sleep. lol. One large shelf is deep..too deep for me to reach. All are succulents and a couple cacti. They're watered 2-3 times, from Nov-Feb. The mix is bone dry, but since they're succulent they survive..in fact, a couple Aloes and Haworthias are in bud. To those who have luck using Turface, or whatever this type of gritty mix consist of, it's great you found it. Especially those who lost succulents in the past. Anyway, thanks for everyone's help. Byron, Beautiful color bloom and pretty purple vein color on the segments. Asleith, Fantastic double bloom... wow! Nomen, So neat to see albino leaf & seed on the Madame butterfly variegate! Interesting to just see only the plants' form. Is that crazy hot peppers & holiday seeds? I will skip the peppers ty... I tried to make mild jalapeno poppers, ate one and darn it was HOT, ended up sprinting for the half & half and a roll. Thanks for the update on the growing madame butterfly, looks great! I can also relate to holidays and missing loved ones. My parents passed away a few years ago, but the pain sometimes is all too fresh. I miss them terribly. I’ve spent many a holiday on my own, for various reasons, and I more-than-survived just fine. I’d tell of my ‘awful’ holidays, but frankly, some were nightmarishly horrible, not in a funny way and there is no way to make some things humorous (even for me). Between truly psychotic siblings and now, mean as snake in-laws, holidays are sometimes a terrible time for me. Did I say I miss my folks? I did, and do. This year’s Thanksgiving was a lovely improvement! DH and I married a little over a year ago, after decades of on/off dating and chronic bachelorhood’s on both our parts, and we are enjoying this wonderful new chapter in our lives together! Thanksgiving Day we worked in bitter cold installing a new vent inside, outside, and under the house for a new washer/dryer set to be delivered – DH felt the old venting was unacceptable (I love that things must be ‘just so’ according to him; he’s a can-do perfectionist). Later we made rather strong Old Fashioned’s, relaxing with a blazing fire as we warmed our frosty hands and toes. I prepared 2 enormous filet mignons with hollandaise sauce, baked potatoes, and steamed asparagus – we ate far past the satiated point! A simple meal to prepare, but delightful. With full stomachs and warming bodies we talked of how we are always working on the house now – laughing at and with each other over the day’s more humorous events, discussing how anxious we are to start demolition for our renovations, and other things… Things couples who’ve known one another for decades comfortably talk of. Life is pretty wonderful. I’ve much to be thankful for. …Then our heat pump broke. F@#%.
