Linda C - my DH loved your coleslaw!!!

He is not one to rave - ever! He absolutely loved it. He said it was the best coleslaw I have ever made in 30 years! I had to use 2/3 balsamic and 1/3 white vinegar because I didn't have cider vinegar. It came out quite well with the substitution. Just wanted to let you know and say thanks for the recipe.

Glad your husband liked it. I may try the white vinegar balsamic mix next time.
I find it just gets better upon standing in the refrig for a couple of days.

We got hit here too, 8 inches of very heavy wet stuff. I spent 2 hours shoveling the driveway, the deck, the backyard. Cooper is afraid of the snow and he pooped in the house twice. He's a Michigan dog, fer crying out loud. I finally just tossed him out. He got even by chewing up the cat's catnip mouse and throwing up. We're supposed to get another foot, at least, and we have blizzard warnings. 50 MPH wind gusts, blowing and drifting, white out conditions. Yup, it's winter and it's Michigan. The snowplow plowed me in this morning, Ashley never made it to work/school. There was a 3 foot wall of wet snow at the bottom of the driveway but I just put the Jeep in 4 wheel drive and went to work, not a hesitation. Have I mentioned that I LOVE that Jeep? LOL. We'll see what tomorrow brings, and I have to get out to the farm and check tanks and hay feeders too. It's about 10F here now, but the windchill is way lower than that. Annie

One of my cycling buddies always brings it to the campout/cookout bike weekends. His recipe: RAMEN NOODLE SALAD 1 8 oz. pkg. slaw mix (from the produce counter) 1 pkg. Ramen noodles (any flavor) 1 c. sunflower seeds (roasted) 1 small pkg. slivered almonds Green onion tops (if desired) Mix all preceding together. Break the noodles into small pieces. DON'T cook noodles. Dressing mix: ÃÂ½ c. oil 2 Tbsp. Sugar 3 Tbsp. White Vinegar* Seasoning mix from noodles Pour dressing over noodle/slaw mix and let set over night OR for a crunchy salad, add dressing just before serving (I do the latter). * For variety, try balsamic vinegar (my favorite) or red wine vinegar. For the campouts, I double the ingredients except for the sunflower seeds and almonds. It seems to me that about 1 to 1 1/4 cups of sunflower seeds and a 4-ounce package of slivered almonds is plenty, even for a double batch.

Keto uses pork rinds as their 'panko'. I like the Epic brand, not seasoned. I'm not keto but like mini meat balls rolled in pRinds. Cuisinart chopped. My last Bo Saam pork shoulder had a big skin layer not trimmed. I took some of it and made Jamie's method. Rest of it is in the freezer. (Totally forgot about it) Not been a fan recently but three great ideas in this video. The cracklings, the seasoned salt and the herbed leftover fat. Link, HERE I did not make a full tray but ate them all immediately. Rarely buy but maybe once a year being one of my favorite savories.

I usually make mine with mayo so that is why DH liked it so much. He not a big fan of mayo. I also subed EV olive oil for the peanut oil.

I have several slaw recipes, but i like this one best.
Says let stand for at least 4 hours....but less is OK too.

Fred Harvey Cole Slaw:
Shred one medium head of cabbage and one small onion, cover with 1/2 cup of sugar.
Bring to a boil 1 tsp sugar
1/2 Tablespoon salt
1/2 tsp dry mustard
1/2 tsp celery seed
1/2 c peanut oil
1/2 c cider vinegar.
Pour over the cabbage and set stand at least 4 hours before eating.
Keeps well.

1/2 c peanut oil

This sounds similar to the coleslaw dressing recipe my mom always used. I don't like mayo so this is a favorite of mine... (I generally use a bit more onion)

Lowell Inn Dressing for Cole Slaw

3/4 c. vinegar (cider or red wine)
1 c. confectionerÂs sugar
1 tsp. celery seed
1 tsp. salt
1 tbs. grated onion
3/4 c. salad oil

Boil vinegar and sugar for 5 minutes

Add remaining ingredients and store in refrigerator.

This keeps well.

Shake before using and pour over chopped cabbage.

I got this recipe from a friend about 25 years ago and made it often. Everyone always loved it. Because no mayo - it is good for summer gatherings / cookouts. I lost the recipe - could only remember the name had Harvey in it and celery seeds that made it so unique - Thanks for posting the recipe - I will now be making it again!!!

Kathleen's Coleslaw recipe is very good.

Creamy Coleslaw Dressing

Cole slaw..no exact recipe, shred the cabb, carrot, celery, a bit of onion, sugar, sweet pickle juice, pinch of powdered mustard,pepper,reg. mayo unless the "gag me mayo" group is here, ha! and a dollop of sour cream.

I don't stock powdered mustard so I think I sub hot Hungarian Paprika
