My tree IS budding!!!! You guys were right....just be patient! Funny thing is...I saw the first green buds yesterday which was St. Patrick's Day! Guess my tree was waiting to dress up for the holiday. Thanks to you all for your comments and advice. Just to let you know, I did water it during the winter and I fertilized it two weeks ago, then gave it a deep watering a few days ago. All is good now and thanks for your help! To answer your question, Greenlrry, my tree is an Ulmus parvifolia and it will be beautiful again this summer! :-)

Jen, LOL!! It is true. Seems like it takes forever when we see the first evidence of an info. "Could it be..?" The Thornton Maverick seems like it is growing at a snails pace, but it will be worth the wait when it finally shows it beauty!!! That wood came from the Reptile dept at Petsmart!! I went to the florist and bought the little vials and glued them into the wood at certain places. This idea came from a lady in CA. I can't recall her name, but she worked at an office and she made this beautiful disply. Some of us made our own displays after we saw her gorgeous centerpiece. Have a great evening!! Laura

Trim the broken parts from you pear tree leaving clean cuts. It may survive but it won't be like its former self for at least 10 years. Also, it may begin to rot from the severe wounds. If this was a grafted tree, it appears that all the damage is elevated well above the graft.
