My Christmas Tree is Up!

My three girls came out today and worked on cleaning my living room and moving the furniture about and put my tree up. It is a six foot pre lighted tree and loaded with ornaments and purple garland and beads. We had a bit of lunch here of chili soup, crackers, cheese and sliced peaches plus iced tea and whatever they wanted. I didn't do a thing but watch as my knee is really bad today, can hardly walk. It will get better. For my supper I am going to have a hamburger from McDonalds. How many have their tree up by now?

No tree yet! BUT I took down all the greenery from above the cabinets, put up the holly and berries, behind that I put up my angles, snow men and a couple Santas too. It looks very christmas-E in the kitchen. Now I have to take a bunch of stuff back down into the basement to store until spring. I'm excited to find a new tree this year. Soon I hope..

Both of mine are up. One is 7 foot and the other is 4 foot.
I usually do not put mine up this early, but this year with my 12 Y/O grandson living here, I decided to do it early.

Wow, and it all began with a Christmas tree! What a great job you did.............been there and done that and you deserved all the adult beverages you could hold (and still do the work). Every year when I get in a snit about Christmas and getting everything done....I realize that I have known it was coming all year and yet wait until the last minute. I am a slow learner. But there is always next year.....you all remind me about Thanksgiving, please. You did a super job on the sheetrock, much better than what I did. My weakness was corners and edges.

Christmas tree flies! Ugh!

I don't know where you live to know if the bugs might be different, but I tried to research and found nothing about any flies being a common pest that is typically brought in on a fresh cut tree. I only found one reference to suggest cluster flies as a x-tree pest, and that was here. The flies in your tree may just be some anomaly and I would guess that you already see whatever will hatch or awake from a deep freeze. I would never spray a christmas tree with RAID! ugh! aside from the pesticide use aspect, it will make the tree smell just awful. :p Whatever bugs are in that tree are there for a reason.... It's a tiny little eco-system all it's own and, by cutting the tree and placing it indoors, you've disrupted their life-cycle. In general, they have no means to survive in your home because their host environment isn't correct or stable. They'll probably drop like flies. ;o)

'Fraser Fir' Christmas Tree Lights Up!
Q

I feel like I got a good buy ...I would rather always have a live tree growing in my yard ...but Fraser Firs are not native here ... matter of fact, the tree farms had hundreds of them planted (probably 2 -yrs old or so seedlings) that were all 'brown' row & after row due to the 'severe drought' here in our IA & alot of IA. So we did buy an already 'cut tree' brought in from Michigan...usually we 'cut our own' on that tree farm. The last 2 yrs we've had 'firs' & I love the look & feel of them & easy to decorate. But, wow, OA ...I cannot imagine trees costing that much money! The vine tree was lit up last night here in my dining room & it didn't cost me anything...so far it's lasted quite a few yrs ...I love it! LOL! Thanks, Holiday-ers! Jeanne S. Laurie/ msrose - close up of Christmas tree

Thank you both! Linda, I bought a total of 6 bolts of ribbon and each bolt is 10 yards long. Since the tree is in the corner I didn't go all the way around the tree. I started at the top, using plant wire I connected all three ribbons together then secured it to one of the branches and just swooped it down and pinched together where I wanted it to stop and used the tree branches to wrap around the ribbon and started going down the tree from the left to the right. I think you can just position it where you think it looks best. I used the wide mesh in the past and that looks great too! I used the same method with the mesh as I did with the ribbon. Good Luck! I hope this helped.

I'm thinking of checking to see if I can put up just the top half of my tree....I really don't have the room, or inclination, to put up the whole thing. I hate putting on all those lights! Other than that, I have replaced my many teapots with Christmas ones, snowmen, etc.

No tree up yet. Marilyn Sue, I have to say I so enjoy your daily posts and love to hear what you're having for dinner (supper!) each night. Your life as I see it reminds me of a Fanny Flagg book, and that's a compliment. Didn't realize you have three dd's--me too. You're lucky they all seem to live near you so you all can visit often. Thanks for posting.

Thank you sjerin, for the compliment. Yes, we have 3 grown daughters and a grown son and a grown granddaughter. Our granddaughter doesn't live that close to us, but not real far, maybe 30 miles or less. I was very surprised the girls plannned to come and do all they did for me.

You are one lucky lady! Hope ours will live fairly close to me when they finally settle down.

May I "adopt" your daughters for a day or so? It's so good of them to do that for you, but then you're pretty darned good to them, too.

Also, may I ask where you found purple garland? I'm looking for purple or aqua for my white tree. This is the second year of looking with no luck! Your tree sounds pretty.

I bought my purple stuff at Hobby Lobby last year. Today Cheryl brought me a new quail ornament for my tree. I haven't hung it on there yet. I have to decorate my mantle downstairs. I have a little leaning pine tree and I also put my Breyer Christmas pony and sleigh there and other horse drawn things on it. I will have a Christmas mantle scarf too, it is lacy. Maybe I can talk Cheryl into doing it for me? She will be over after church tomorrow. I looked at my Christmas tree box and it says it has 400 lights on it. The tree was a Christmas gift one year from Cheryl and Kevin. Kevin was happy to get the raspberry pie. I have 4 pies to take to church tomorrow. I did not get any Christmas cards today. I am tired, think I will go to bed pretty soon.
Have a good evening all.
