What Is Your Carving Tool? Electric Or Manual?

I was the designated carver for sister in law's prime rib tonight. They handed me an electric knife.

Twin long, scallop edged, reciprocating blades. It was noisy. It was scary. It made the nephew's baby cry. It did cut the roast pretty easily. The crust got fragmented a bit more than I'd have liked, but really, I had no complaints. It felt like I was trimming the bushes and ivy with a power tool - i.e. kind of fun.

At home, I cut slices from roast beef or pork with a long (16"?), slim, straight, carbon butcher's slicer. It was my father in law's knife. For carving up poultry, I usually use a boning knife.

What do you use for carving? Electric or manual? Why?
