Although I'm in east Texas with sandy acid soils, I wanted to chime in! I have had the best luck with lily bulbs of the LA hybrid variety (longiflorum/Asiatic). They come back reliably and multiply. I bought some from the American series (American gladiator, Amer. cheerleader, Amer. revolution, etc.) and the colors go so well together! I also bought some 'Royal Sunset' bulbs from Brent and Becky's, and they're lovely. The Madonna lily has done well for me, as has the Formosa lily. Both grow quite tall. I have partial sun for all of these.

Hi. I'm new, but I've been lurking for a while. debndal: This is our new cool thing to sink our teeth into. According to the various websites I've found, a roof with a 1,000 s.f. catchment area will yield 600 gallons of water during a 1 inch rain. That's huge! It's quite easy to determine your catchment area (it's much larger than your home's square footage, but you can use that as a general underestimate, if you'd rather). We used both actual measurements, along with the survey of our home, to estimate the possible runoff for each roof valley and how many barrels we could/should need for each. A = catchment area (remember to add the add'l meas of your eaves, which extend beyond the home's footprint) R = inches of rain G = gallons of collected rainwater A x R x 600gal / 1000 = G For example, our home is approx 2100 sf., and we have four unequal roof valleys. On the west side of our home, that receives two of our roof valleys, we could potentially catch enough water to fill 12(!) 55gal barrels of water with a 1-inch rainfall. We won't be putting up that many (only 6), but it did give us an idea of how much rainwater runoff we're 'wasting' when we turn on the tap. We're even putting a lone barrel next to our chimney to catch most of the 85gal of water that will run off of the meager 2 linear feet of roof above it, & that water will be dedicated to my azaleas nearby. You can add me to the list. I'm about 30 min. from Cleveland. We should all make a list and put it in a file on our computer so we can check it before we leave for somewhere. Then we can send emails to those who would be on our route, just in case. In fact, I have a list going for those who are willing to let us stay in their driveway, have campgrounds close or just to stop and visit along our travels with the motor home. Tami
