A tad bit annoyed!!! AARP

A couple of days ago, I got a letter from AARP with 3 identical petitions for me to sign and send along with a donation to someone in Long Beach, CA (name+AARP) I do not sign any petitions but what really ticked me of what was printed on the outside of the envelope:

YOU HAVE NOT RESPONDED TO OUR PREVIOUS LETTERS.

To me that is almost like a collection letter or???

Your feelings? Should I send it to main office? Trash??

It's just junk mail - why are you even worrying about it? Recycle the crap.

AARP is doing nothing personal for you, so why are you considering doing anything for them?

The personal thing they do to you is sell your address to other people who in turn will send you junk mail or spam.

Thank you for your responses. You are right, and that is why it has continued for too long, the manager not approaching this properly. And the supervisor is condescending and demeaning, so you can imagine). In the past, I missed opportunities to have it witnessed when it seems she did not want to enter units during Covid. She would stand outside his door to listen, then not knock since she hadn’t heard loud audio. 😏 She also believes that if not hearing volume from a distance outside, then it must not be loud, and does not comprehend about Bass transference thru floors, walls, or amplifiers. 🤔 (Apparently that is suggested to do, but being in the instance of partying, fighting, yelling, as “nuisance noise” is considered being). Many times she would try to call him, but he would not answer or call her back and could not leave voicemail. (Then, it is forgotten about). If she ever did talk to him, it didn‘t matter. As mentioned, this type just continues on. I think I have mentioned his “talking back to her” when she spoke to him outdoors. She hasn’t understood how to handle this, when another might. It could have been resolve long ago. It’s funny, you would think she would after many complaints, do something. She’s nice, but seems passive. (It’s so frustrating and I would left in a flash if possible. I have felt stuck, the housing situation in So. CA being difficult for many). I have wanted to have her visit at the right moment, hoping it would not cease before she visited, but as said, is usually very late. (When the police visited, it was raining, and she doesn’t want to go outdoors then). Unfortunately, in the unit next to his “entertainment wall“ is a kitchen, and though the tenants were especially aware during his police visit aftermath when sleeping, they had not wanted to bother “writing the supervisor”. It has been futile. (I have asked anyone having lived next to me over time if they hear my TV or stereo, never having been an issue, but I am conscious of things, which is the difference). I believe that this would be handled differently elsewhere and if another tenant besides me would have resided here, the neighbor above would have been gone long ago. Part of the resistance to complaints stems from having had a couple of others prior be disruptive up there also, so I am seen as “being oversensitive”, when it is not the case and not being witnessed. ((sigh)) I did not experience this from most tenants here or in other buildings, so it has been very difficult, having had it doubted, assumptions made, on top of. Thanks for listening. I’m always glad to hear if others can get some resolve. This should be taken seriously.

I just had time to read the first few responses so I apologize if I repeat what's already been said... or if I missed something new. I'm sure your son, along with the rest of the team(s) notice the 'girls' hanging out. Besides being awkward to ask him, he would probably say he's embarrassed to you but to his friends, he may be their hero... bringing something to look at to the games. (lots of kids that age are plain curious & will look at whatever is there) It's kinda sad that she feels so insecure and threatened to behave that way. (I know that she may not be insecure or feel threatened but everything she does would lead me to believe she is either insecure & feels threatened or she has absolutely no social skills or idea of what is appropriate) I also agree it could be worse but there's nothing wrong with feeling annoyed by her. She seems to be in your face, marking her territory, and maybe wants you to know she exists. Getting there before you might make her feel she has the upper hand... more like you are on HER turf because she was there first... you are walking into a space she has already gotten comfortable in. I disagree that she must care about SS to drive all that way to be there... she may be driving all that way to get in your face so you know she's there, especially if it's her only opportunity for you to see her. (I kinda see that because SD's BM goes to every practice & game for her BF's kids... even if she is on crutches or sick. She wants BF's exW to see her there, she also gets there before exW & seats herself with all the other mothers & starts up conversation so when exW gets there, she will sit somewhere else... it's not about rooting for the kids at all~ BM also is loud & in your face kinda person... and tries to be the sexy SM, so I relate to that part of your post) As your title says "probably won't do anything"... that's exactly what you should do... NOTHING. The more you ignore her and be yourself, it will probably drive her crazy. Whatever she is trying to get out of it... if she gets nothing back, it will frustrate her. As for talking to ex about smoking, I would simply mention that SS smells like smoke, the next time he smells like smoke... and instead of saying please don't smoke, say something like "I wonder why DS smells like smoke?" and see if he cops to it & offers to refrain around the child or shrugs an "I don't know". Then I would tell him that "I'd sure hate to see DS become a smoker, it's a nasty habit" I think that will work better than being an exW that comes across telling him what he can or can't do. I think you should have a right to when it comes to your son's well being but it does no good to complain if it's not going to be well received. If you get a dialogue going about concern for your son, then he might get the message. (what kind of parent would say "oh, it's no big deal if he decides to be a smoker"? That would be ridiculous and inappropriate.)

In terms of whose colour it is (asked above). Ivoire is an SW colour. I wanted low or no VOC paint. Originally, I wanted the BM Aura low VOC paint so that is what initiated the original BM colour match (lousy match). So I then decided to use SW Emerald no VOC paint and go back to the company whose colour it was, for the reasons you stated. Emerald is a very new no VOC SW paint - so likely not what most others on here have used for Ivoire. Not only was their own formula for Ivoire in Emerald paint totally not a match (they admitted it did not match and called the manager - I noticed the mismatch when 1st gallon mixed) - they then attempted to colour match their own colour and did a marginal job - they had already added too much pigment and made it too dark/blah and it was clear that they were going to be unable to get a match as they thought it was good enough and I did not. So back to a BM moore store to attempt yet another match to SW Ivoire. I think the match was okay - but I was fed up at this point and decided that this match would have to be okay - I have a rest of my life to deal with incl. my career etc and this was taking far too much time!. In hindsight, it may have not been quite bright enough, or maybe it is and Ivoire just plays strange on my walls or I made a poor colour choice etc. I don't know. It looks about what Ivoire should look like during the day but just a tad green at night (although new lightbulbs have helped). Mind you, my blue carpets are not helping matters (they will be changed to hardwood in due course). Sushipup1 -- as far as I know, everyone is eligible for a supplemental plan, but if they don't sign up when they first become eligible for Medicare (or, as in my case, after an allowed deferral ), they might have to qualify for the coverage -- just as a person can be denied life insurance for existing conditions. But, also as far as I understand, during the open enrollment period this year your friend could sign up for a supplemental plan. Now, as for what the ENT charged.... A provider is a Medicare participating provider if they agree to charge only the Medicare-approved fee for all services (they write off the amount Medicare doesn't cover). The patient pays the 20% of that approved fee that Medicare doesn't pay. A nonparticipating provider is one who sees Medicare patients and sends a bill to Medicare, but does not accept the Medicare-approved fee as the full fee for the service provided. The provider can charge the patient up to Medicare's limiting charge. Medicare lowers its approved fee by 5% for nonparticipating providers. In other words, the approved fee for a nonparticipating provider will be 95% of the approved fee for a participating provider. Then, the nonparticipating provider can charge the patient 115% of the lowered (95%) fee. If you do the math, it works out to the nonparticipating provider's fee being 109.25% -- that is, the maximum you can be charged by a nonparticipating provider is 9.25% more than Medicare's approved fee. There is a third type of provider -- one who doesn't get involved with Medicare at all. They don't submit a bill to Medicare and won't accept any fee limitations by Medicare. They reject Medicare. They will see patients who are on Medicare, but only after the patient signs a contract stating that they understand these terms and agree to pay the provider's full fee themselves. However, that provider must inform you if the service to be provided would be covered by Medicare if rendered by a provider who sees Medicare patients. So, either the ENT is a participating provider who violated Medicare's rules and charged more than the limiting fee (in which case he should be reported to Medicare), or else your friend signed a contract to be seen by a provider who rejects Medicare and she agreed to pay his entire fee. But, yeah, if she can't afford it, she can't afford it. Because her only income is SS which cannot be garnished, she is what is referred to as "judgment proof."

I always shred anything with a bar code on it. My sis once had a seed catalog mailed to me, there was a typo in the address and the same typo was a lot of junk mail I started to get after that. I called the seed catalog company and asked if they sold their customers address. She said, "No, we rent them out". I asked her when will I start getting my rent money. LOL

By the time anything comes to your house, if the address will be sold, it already has been sold.

If it makes you feel safer to shred junk mail, then do it. But it won't make a difference in the amount. I do rip apart application forms, but other than that, I just toss.

They already know your address.

I don't let those things annoy me;they are just par for the course. There is nothing personal about them.

I do wonder why I keep getting mail from COMCAST that says on the outside of the envelope, For current customers, since I canceled them 5-6 months ago. Also from Bank of America I get a checkbook each month. Closed out all my accounts there a year or so ago. Maybe if they stopped spending money on junk they could pay a tad more interest to their customers.

There is a way to stop junk from coming to your home. There used to be 6 mailing lists and I contacted each of them and requested to be taken off the lists. The last time I did that It was just a click on the computer. You might try googling stop junk mail. There was another one you had to write and pay a dollar, since I did that I don't get the financial snail mail anymore. Sorry i don't have the addresses. Very little junk mail comes to my. When it does it just says resident.

AARP does a lot of fundraising for itself. They've been mailing me for a lot of years (and I'm still not retired). I wouldn't send them a dime. I haven't seen them do anything for anyone except beg for money and taking advantage of the elderly is heinous in my opinion.

All their junk mail (since it's all junk) goes into the recycle bin. Doesn't even come into the house.

I fold up their junk mail, put it in their pre-paid envelope and mail it back to them. We have to get them in their wallets. I stopped receiving mailings, once I did so.

I throw out everything I get from AARP (CCRRAARPP). They used to send me their magazine, which I found interesting enough to read first, then throw out.

Hi Marie,

On the off chance that you might be feeling a tad ornery, still ...

... you might send their envelope with the message about your not having replied to their earlier messages back to them, with, "Well ... it looks as though I'm replying to this one, doesn't it?", written in magic marker just below that message. And enclose the rest of the propaganda, of course.
