Remember my owl photo? I won $50 on it and got four others chosen for a calendar contest, won $250 in all. Also won $50 on that baby chickadee I posted, think I didn't post the other three here. I used the money to have my two new arbors installed finally and part of my gutters fixed and a used, nice garage entry door installed. Here is my new arbor, I was testing out my new 100-400mm lens. All that icky dirt I loaded in buckets and used it for fill by the back steps, so it looks neater now and all ready for planting.

Now to find a Zelphine Drouhin (think that's what it is) rose, think it better to wait until spring. I'm having trouble trying to figure out what to plant in that rototilled border, saw some Flanders poppies with daisies, but I wanted roses, too, and they won't work very well together, don't know what I'll end up with, probably a mess. It's going to be a pain if I don't mulch because it seemed all I did all summer was haul water to keep stuff alive.

The new lens makes the borders look foreshortened, but they are about 10 or 15 feet long by about 2-1/2 feet or so wide on each side of the sidewalk.

Things are starting to look better around here, neighbors seem like the improvements so far (I got what I wanted finally), my place has been an eyesore for years.

Aliska, Cool that you won those contests,which in turn helped to do some of the things you wanted done...I love that arbor! Sounds like your thnking of next years gardening projects...me too...I started layering more boxes,grass, manure & newspapers to enlarge upper garden, dug up and divided the irises, cleaned that bed now I just have to get them in the ground...Collecting seeds and gradually cleaning out beds as needed...I think that I'll leave certain plants in hopes that they'll reseed and grow next year...Am waiting for perennial clearances and possibly throw some perennial seeds out...My goal is to have reseeding annuals and perennials so I can enjoy more and work a little less...Ha! That's what I think right now anyway! lol...
