State of Connecticut. The answer is yes. We moved out before the closing on our former homes. All were local moves. Very simply, when the closing was done, we turned over the keys and no longer had any rights to the property. Staying the house would have been negotiated with the new owners prior to the closing and spelled out in a contract. By the same token, when we closed on homes we were buying, our walk throughs the morning of the closing were in empty houses. As far as moving our furniture, our first house we moved into ourselves from an apartment. Our second house, we moved in right after the closing. We lived in a camper for a night after moving out of our first house. The furniture was kept locked in the mover's truck overnight. The last move, we closed on our new house 2 weeks before we moved out of the old one. Enjoy the journey. eal51 in western CT

Anne, I know how this feels! We went through this sort of thing for several years until the city finally put in stop valves and sump pumps in the homes in our area. After arguing with the city for months and months they finally redid the sewers in our area. We had been on an old combined system (storm sewers and sanitary that had been connected to a new subdivision just built near by) Now we have separate systems and all has been well. You really need to disinfect after a backup. Call a restoration company and ask where you can buy the product. A janitorial supply should have it. Don't worry about the dogs. Just keep them upstairs until the basement is dry and they will be fine. If you were closer I could supply it to you from where I work. Get you neighbours together and keep bugging the city, too. We were relentless and finally got what we wanted out of them. I can remember getting nervous every time it rained. Not a good feeling.

The storms in Ohio today have mostly slipped down to the south of me so I've only had a brief downpour. But when I look at what's been going to the south, I'm glad it's missing me. Our weather pattern is coming in from Michigan so it's supposed to be cooler, less humid, starting tomorrow. Then HEAT/HUMIDITY will come in strong this next weekend. I'll enjoy the next few days......my type of weather, and prepare to hibernate over the weekend. Shirley
