Fllooded Basement Again

Torrential downpours, storm after storm starting Saturday night around 10 with the last storm moving through after 3 am. All I could do was watch the water gurgle up through the drains. I tried to keep up with the shop vac but I couldn't carry the canister up the basement steps to empty it outside.

I ended up with 2 1/2 inches in the laundry room and half the main room. Lucky for me my basement is not finished and has a cement floor. I had water coming in my front door too because the eavetroughs were overflowing and the water was running down the walls of the house.

Thankfully an hour after the last storm came through the water started to recede so now I just have really wet floors with a few puddles. We had more rain tonight but nothing like last Sunday night.

My brother a few streets over had water in his family room and Dale across the street despite having 2 sump pumps and a 3rd one running had water coming in too. He came over here to get his emergency sump pump that I use when I flood.

I don't know why our storm sewers can't handle the water but they don't and I am getting pretty peeved about it. I want to know why I flood all the time. I keep my drains eeled out, I have my down spouts disconnected from the storm drain. Dale seems to think something was shut off in this area not allowing the storm water to move away.

Leamington, a community to our south was devestated by a tornado when the last storm went through at 3 am. Luckily nobody was injured or killed. Fermi nuclear plant across the river near Detroit put out an alert this morning after the plant shut down because a wall was damaged during the storm. Even the reporter this morning seemed concerned about the alert until more information was put out. There have always been safety issues with this plant and when they have an alert it affects the communities close to us.

I was watching a local Detroit television station for storm reports because we had nothing local here to tell us what was going on. Environment Canada always seems to report our weather after the fact so we have come to rely on Detroit weather to keep us informed. We are just a small river apart. I knew the last line of storms missed us because we didn't get the heavy winds that they said were coming with the last line, that storm moved a bit to the south and hit Leamington hard. Even the meteorologist at the Detroit station said he wouldn't abandon his Canadian neighbours and reported until the storms moved out of our area.

I am hoping the hot dry summer they are predicting comes true. I am done with the water coming into my house.

Do any of you know what I can use to disinfect my floors without fumes because my pilot light on the furnace is still on? I was going to use Pine-Sol once but the bottle said the fumes are flammable. I have to use something that is pet friendly as well.

I am waiting for the paper to see how much of our area had flooding. I will put my call in to the City in the morning.

LOL Anyone want to go swimming. I have a small lake in my backyard.

Anne
