My Mom's 90th Birthday!

It was a blast. She had a great time being Queen for a Day! Lots of cousins on both sides and friends came. A sister-in-law (married my father's brother) that she hasn't seen in many years came with her daughter.

The only conspicuous absence was all 3 of my brothers. I don't know what was up with that. What a bunch of selfish jerks! One even lives in FL and could have driven. His excuse was she is so old, she won't know who is there. She noticed, but we still managed to have a good time. We also went to see Cirque Odyssey at the Sunrise Theatre in Ft. Pierce. It was quite a show!

The time went so fast and so sad to see her waving at the door as I drove away to catch my plane. She is such a wonderful woman who has been through so much and keeps on smiling and being optimistic. I greatly respect and love her. I hope I get to see her again soon.

Awww Clare, I am so happy you had a good time celebrating your Mom's 90th!

My Mom will be 90 very soon. It's a blessing we've both had our mothers this long to love and enjoy.

I watched it, and her Off their Rockers show after. I enjoyed the tribute more than I expected. A little redundant and predictable but all in all I thought it was a good show. I've always liked Betty White. MeTV is doing a tribute to her with 90 minutes for her 90th birthday. 3 of the Mary Tyler Moore shows with SueAnn Niven in them. I know Mary Tyler Moore has diabetes and she hasn't looked in good health for a long time. I thought she really looked weak and frail on the show last night. Made me wonder how much time she has left.

90th birthday tea for my grandmother

I make a chicken salad for sandwiches that has had lots of acclaim. I just cook chicken breasts....simmer in some chicken broth, when cool chop very fine....I use the pulse on the food processor, be careful not to make mush just a very fine mince....then add good mayo to moisten, lots of fresh lemon...about 2 T. lemon juice to every 1/3 cup of mayo, and very very finely chopped celery, about 1/4 cup celery to every cup of chicken. And I make sandwiches using those little appetizer buns, or sometimes I buy a loaf of French bread and cut it about 1/4 inch slices with an electric knife and cut those rounds in 1/4s. and I am all about cucumber sandwiches with party rye. Never heard of cream cheese, spinach and strawberry sandwiches, but I would squeeze frozen spinach very dry, chop and chop again so it's really fine and mix with cream cheese and perhaps a bit of lemon, spread a round of bread and add sliced strawberries....and perhaps just a dot of balsamic vinegar. And lemon bars....always a good thing, brownies cut into 1 inch squares, cut out sugar cookies, no frosting just sugar sprinkles, a bowl of mints and perhaps a plate with tooth picks holding a pineapple chunk and a strawberry. Will you be serving punch? or just tea and coffee?One of my go to punch recipes is simp[ly cranberry juice ( not cranberry cocktail) and an equal amount of 7-up, float lime slices for pretty. And another punch that is not that sherbet stuff is steep 2 cups of strong tea ( 4 tea bags per2 cups water) and add a few slices of fresh ginger to the tea as it is steeping. Then add 2 cups pineapple juice, a can ( small size,,,6 oz) of lemonade concentrate and half a 2 litre bottle of gingerale. Male all ahead and chill and add the cold gingerale just before you serve. If you are having it for the "church ladies" you want to up the wow factor...lol...but I don't know how you will get away without a sheet cake with "Happy Birthday" written on it! Happy birthday to your grandma!! I am sure you will do her proud!

Good grief Clare, was your mom 60 when she had you and your sister? You both look so young!

I agree with Susan, it's a big loss for your brothers. I feel bad for your mom that they didn't make it, but her smile tells me she had a good time in spite of them. You all made sweet memories for each other.

I like the outfit you picked to wear--although all the ones you posted were pretty. Your mother's very pretty (beautiful hair) and looks like she' having a great time. Shame on your brothers is all I can say.

Yes, your mother has very pretty hair and is wearing the prettiest dress (or top)...She looks healthy and spunky!
What a blessing.
My mother had Alzheimer's, but died from smoke inhalation when her house caught fire. She was 73 years-old.

Great pictures Clare and you are so blessed to still have your Mom.

Shame on your brothers - 3 of my older brothers were the same way and they lived in the same city.

Looks like you all had a great time and your Mom sure doesn't look like she is 90 years old. Happy Birthday to your Mom.
