Would I be ticked? Yeah probably,but If I was thinking back on it I would probably feel satisfied that I could help,even though the DD was a bit ridiculous.LOL Sometimes people just don't "think". If it got to you as much as it seems maybe next time make some excuse and just don't do it.I have a hard time saying no so I probably would do it again,but that's just me.

Had the stinky dog and my things getting smashed annoyed me, I would have asked the daughter to walk the two blocks. I would also be annoyed with her criticism and lack of appreciation.

You did a nice thing for someone, and it's too bad they were so unappreciative! Yup, I think I would turn my cell phone off, or if you have caller ID on it, just don't answer if they ever call you again - let them leave a message. Have they never heard of taxis?

Having been my mom's caregiver for the past 12 years, I know that there are times when an emergency situation comes up--even minor ones such as this--and in your worry about your mother, you sometimes lose sight of the big picture. The daughter is probably so used to being responsible for her mother, that it never occured to her to leave mom with you and walk. Maybe she had ice cream or meat in her grocery bags and didn't want them defrosting on the trip.

Stop and think how frazzled you are when your car won't start--and add to that having an elderly woman along who obviously can't be left alone, and can't walk. I'd say, that while the behavior was rude, there may have been a reason for lack of manners this time around.

It wouldn't have bothered me. I don't do good deeds to get thanked--nice if you are, but I don't 'charge' when helping someone out. And who knows--it's possible that in a day or 2 some flowers, or a card or a gc to a restaurant may show up on your doorstep.

I don't blame you a bit for being upset. That would tick me off for sure. Next time just make up an excuse that you're unable to help out. Can't believe they didn't even thank you. That is totally rude. I thank people a million times a day for even little things so I cannot understand that at all.

Yep, I'd have been irked. To not even say "thank you" to me that's inexcusable, they should both have been thanking you up one side and down the other. I wonder if you are being taken for granted?

I have had inconsiderate passengers before and been annoyed by them. My DB's GF was doing something so loud in my backseat last summer that I checked for damages! I never did find out what she was doing.

Sorry you had such a rotten day. I heard an expression once that seems to fit: "No one can become a doormat without their own permission".

I can totally understand your feelings. But, you are the only one that could have changed things.

I don't think, you should cut your friend out of the "help line".

I do think you should tell the daughter if this repeats, Sorry, I can't take the dog. Would you please walk it over, I will stay with your mom till you get there.

Please, don't turn your friend away, when she needs help again. She was just worn out, from sitting and waiting and wondering what will happen.

I would be a little upset too. How rude not to even thank you. I don't think I'd be friends with someone like that anymore.

Like Liz said, it's hard to imagine neither one thought to thank you. I think they became angry with you - angry about the car you were driving and angry for having to wait. They took the frustration they were already experiencing out on you as if you should have gone home first to change cars, and as if you should have dropped what you were doing to run for them. I understand what Azzalea is saying but think they took it too far by blaming you. Their hard day wasn't supposed to turn into your hard day. Hopefully though with the day behind her and she begins to reflect, your friend will think to find a nice way to thank you. At least say the words.

I would be "put out" about their rudeness, i.e. complaining about your car, expecting the dog to be considered and NO thank you's. I guess I would be willing to help the elderly friend again, maybe under different circumstances. I just never understand people who don't say "thank you".

Let me clarify...under NO circumstances can the daughter be considered a 'caregiver". She merely took her Mom to the MD because the Mom didn't want to ride paratransit. So she sure wasn't frazzled by caring for her Mom. They just were too cheap to pay $5. for a cab and I was dumb enough to enable them. Also, they know I am going in for knee replacement surgery in 2 weeks, and my automatic is the ONLY car I am able to drive.

Yes, I'd be upset. It was rude of them to not thank you. I would have left my "things" in the trunk of my car instead of piling them into someone else's. I would have NEVER put my dog in someone's car without first asking if it was okay. If it was that close, I would've just said that since I had the dog I'd walk & meet you.

Azzalea does make a good point. Any of those things are possible. However, there is NO excuse for not thanking you.

I agree that I'd be feeling rather put-upon ... and somewhat resentful.

I don't mind being helpful ... but I don't like feeling used. Maybe they could advertise me, "old goat ... somewhat used (frequently puts hoof into mouth)".

If she's a fairly close friend, I think that I'd pay her a visit, and tell her, mildly and courteously, how her actions and those of her daughter had upset me somewhat, telling her the various reasons. That there wasn't just one circumstance, but several, piled on top of one another ... and culminating in no one having the courtesy to offer a "thank you" for your effort - when she'd made a hurry-up call asking for your help, and you'd accomodated her need, quite quickly, as quickly as you could.

Sometimes it pays to let people know what effect their actions has in one's life.

I'm rather a helpful-oriented kind of person, and I'd likely help her again.

Possibly I'd wait until I was doing another favour for her to let her know of my reaction when I had put myself out to help her earlier. But I think it preferable to contact her fairly soon.

I think that good communication helps facilitate friendship ... and helps keep our commuities somewhat happier places.

I find that when I smile at people in the store, or make some comment, especially regarding their kids, e.g when they have small ones in the store, "Aren't you lucky to have those shopping consultants along today?". Usually I get a friendly response - seldom a stand-offish or sharp reaction.

Good wishes for a successful operation, that heals quickly and without problems or heavy discomfort.

Yes she was rude...but you'd be better off for your own sake just to forget about it and feel good because you did a good thing. It's healthier..
