Food MIll Help

I'm trying desperately to come up with something that my DH can get me for Christmas. I'm thinking about a food mill, but I'm not sure I'd use it enough to justify the cabinet space. I would likely use it primarily for taking seeds out of fruit for jelly or sorbet and the like. A few questions for my cooking gurus:

What do you use a food mill for?

How often do you find a reason to pull it out?

Is it tough to clean?

Is it adjustable or does it have different plates?

Are there preferred brands or constructions?

Is there something better out there? I've seen some people prefer a chinois, but I've only used my mom's china hat type one for making applesauce, so I have no idea how a chinois would be.

Thank you all so much! If I don't specify exactly what I want, my husband will have a very hard time navigating the cooking stores. :)
