Do you know the name/location of the hotel? Here are just a couple of possibilities, just a complete guess.

Victorian makes sense, as it reportedly came out of a local victorian hotel. I would rather not name the hotel, as that would pinpoint my location.

I meant to include this up close picture of the carving detail.

So if it is in fact victorian, would that mean it needs feet?

I rather like the bottom profiles of the 2 examples posted by ghostlyvision and caminnc.

I also had planned to mirror the back and use glass shelves, but the victorian cabinets do not appear to be done that way.

You have already said you work in Tulsa (elsewhere on the interent) ... so knowing the hotel would not give ninja assassins any more access to your personal info than they have now.

If you give the name of the hotel, we might be able to find a picture of the artifact as it was originally installed.

It's a display case of some sort, perhaps was displaying ads from local businesses. Because all you have is the front framing and doors, build it onto what you need.

Did you say you found the original glass doors for this piece, in another location? How fortuitous.

It was originally built in, you say.....that means not necessarily "feet"....It's wonderful!!
I would let your restorer have free rein....unless he comes up- with some wild idea like paint it.
I don't think you should mirror the back....perhaps glass shelves.....as that would not be out of line.....and could be easily changed if you wanted to,

Lazygardens - I work in a large town, but I live in a very small town. I do have someone at the hotel searching their archives for possible pictures of the piece, but thank you.

mtnrdredux - yes, I was told that there had been a rumor that the doors still existed somewhere in town, but no one knew exactly where. I happened to take a friend shopping and we had to go upstairs to pay for an item she was buying. I was just standing there looking off into the distance when I glimpsed the side of these four doors in a storage room. I asked the owner if they were for sale. He said not really, but he would consider selling them as he never got the cabinet built that he had planned to use them in. He had owned them for 15 years and bought them in a large lot of items at auction.

Lindac - thank you for the encouragement. I had planned to let him just go at it, but he is particular and has a great respect for the piece. He would like it to look as original as possible, bless his soul. He does a good job, which is why I chose him to put it together

check the library in whatever town the hotel was in for photos of the hotel when in operation - or activities held there... and search for a historical society for that area also.

were there auction pictures of the items sold? who held the auction? who owned the hotel at the time of the sale? even if that owner is dead, family members might have old photos with interiors of the hotel in them.

I have family photos that have a wealth of info (photographic) of our hometown bz area in it's early yrs. My former (late) FIL's father was considered one of the founding fathers in the area. Actually, my former (late) MIL's father was also.

Cabinet is going in today. The mirror and side glass is on order. It is big, but I do love it!

It is sort of like this piece was calling me. I knew there was a rumor that these doors existed, but no one knew where they were.

I had lusted for the front face for years, and finally got the owner to sell it to me last fall. I asked my cabinet maker about making doors for it and restoring it. He felt like he could.

One day, a few months later, I accompanied a friend into a store. I was just standing there while she paid for something, and I saw these doors only from the side, all stacked together with a tarp over them in a storage area. No one including me can figure out how I knew they were the doors, but I did instantly.

I asked if they were for sale and the man said he had owned them for 15 years and planned to make a cabinet out of them, but never did. He said he would sell them. He had the same story about them coming out of an old local hotel when someone refurbished the hotel in the 1970's as did the cabinet front.

All four doors had the original curved glass unbroken! Obviously, this cabinet wanted to be put back together and live happily ever-after at my house.

The eerie part is that this cabinet came out of a haunted hotel, so I guess that cabinet has some super powers.

My cabinet maker is a great young man that grew up in a cabinet making family. He said this project has been his biggest challenge so far, but he loved doing it.

He did a great job.

I already have a new project picked out for him.

I have lots of china and porcelain pieces to fill the cabinet with. I love buying old lovely items like that. I will post updated pictures as we finish it.
