Cabinet Pull Size on 6' Pullout / Trash Pullout

I am about ready to order cabinet pulls. THe one I like is 5 3/4" which I think will work fine for both the upper cabinet doors and the base cabinet which are almost all drawers, ranging from 12" to 36". I will use two pulls on the 30" and 36" drawers. THe drawers 12", 15", and 18" will have 1 pull. I have not yet decided on the 24", but am leaning towards 1.

The places I have questions -

6" base pullout for oils, etc - Will it work to put a pull vertically here? Otherwise the pull seems too wide. IF verticle does not work then maybe I should choose a smaller pull for the entire kitchen?

18" Trash Pullout - with a drawer above it - I am considering using the "big brother" 9 3/4" pull so I can hang my towel over the pull. How strange would it look to have the one pull another size? Especailly right under the other drawer?

I have a 24" sink base with two doors. ABove it is a sink tiltout - should this have one pull or two?

Thank you for all the help. Demolition is finished, dust is everywhere, and we are starting to put up the new floor, fill in the trench in the floor, etc. Exciting days.

If you are using nearly 6" pulls, I would not do two on a 24" drawer, nor on the tip-out.

I'm assuming you are doing vertical pulls on your doors? If so, I think a vertical pull on the 6" pullout is fine. If you are doing knobs, then maybe a knob? ... maybe not.

Depending on where your 18" cabinet is, I think you can pull off (no pun intended... ugh) the larger pull. Especially if you intend to have a towel over part of it, it would nearly hide the pull anyway.

I am placing vertical pulls on all the cabinet doors. Will it be awkward to use a vertical pull on a 6" oil pullout? I am starting to think about putting a knob on the pullout - but it woiuld be my only knob. Would that be strange?

For the 36" pan drawers I was planning on using two of the 5 3/4" pulls. Now I am wondering if I should use a single 9 3/4" pull on those drawers? Would mixing the sizes that much look odd?

Also, the pantry will have two doors top to bottom. Should I use the 5+" pulls there, or also go with the longer pulls? (If it makes a difference the pantry is on its own wall.)

Does anybody else agaonize over thiese trivial details?

I used the same pulls that I have on my similar cabinets, which means a different one on the pantry pullout since it is one finish and the trash pullout is on the island in a different finish and with different hardware. The pantry pullout is horizontal on one side of the fridge and the pantry with rollout and broom closet on the other side of the fridge have the same handle installed vertically, The cabinets stacked on top have knobs because they don't all open the same as the ones below them and it looked better to make them different. I do have cup pulls too -- the same finish as the pantry pullouts, but they are my horizontal on the white cabinets (pantry are blue and island is cherry with black pulls). I didn't mix the cup pulls and handles on the white since I wanted the handle pulls to go on the blue cabinets. So I have all cup pulls but have seen plently of mixed cup pulls and bar handles. My suggestion is to buy plenty and check them before the holes are drilled, then mix or rework a few if you need to -- like my pantry.

Prep sink cabinet size for trash pullout

I know that I can get a small trash pullout, but I'm wondering what size sink base I would need to accommodate the smallest trash pullout, as well as plumbing and gd. I don't need much since our main trash/recycle will be next to main sink. The maximum size sink base I can use is 21", but would rather go smaller to add space elsewhere.

Here ya go gardenweb discussion on electric trash pullout I thought mine was Hafele but it's probably the Blum servodrive shown in the video referenced in that link. I think the cost installed with Dutchwood was $250. Ikea used to have a Utrusta (also referenced on that website) for much cheaper but I've heard that the installation is a little tricky. I don't know if it is still available or not. You will need to have an outlet in your sink which you may have anyhow for the GD. HTH

We stayed in a villa at The Cape (a Thompson hotel) in Cabo San Lucas earlier this month. They had this neat trashcan! I liked it so much I took pics to show our designer. I couldn't determine the brand but my designer said Hafale makes a similar can.

yes, others agonize over them also - lol!

I'd mock 'em up - a cardboard or posterboard the size of your drawers and paint on / marker on the handles. if your handles will be dark (orb) then i think just using the marker would work for a sample. then 'live' with them a few days.

Vertical pulls are fine for the 6" pullouts. My KD had recommended I do that on mine, but I decided to put the same knobs on them that I have on the upper cabinets and base cabinet doors.

I also recommend only one pull on a 24" drawer, I think two almost-6" pulls will be too big. (Ditto the tilt out.)

Now the trash pullout. Two things to think about...

(1) Trash will be going in/out and there may be drips...do you want your dish towel possibly being dripped on w/o you knowing and then drying clean hands/dishes with it?

(2) Unless you have a foot pedal and everyone uses it every single time (no exceptions), people w/"yucky raw chicken" hands (or similar) may be opening the trash pullout. Since the handle will be covered by the dishtowel, people will either have to move it or use it to open the pullout, either way touching it w/their "yucky raw chicken" hands or fingers. As with the above, do you want to unknowingly dry clean dishes/hands on a dish towel that was used this way?

Like I said, a couple of things to think about. (Our towel hangs on either the refrigerator freezer drawer handle or the warming drawer handle...and even very occasionally on the ovens.)
