That is awful! I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of your pet! The purebred German Sheppard downstairs broke her leash and hasn't been seen since. The owner thinks someone kept her. I'd keep checking the shelter just in case. She might slip away from him. I hope she finds her way back to you!

CALL THE POLICE OR SHERIFF and file a report about your lost dog, esp. since you suspect she was stolen. If there is someone stealing dogs in your area, law enforcement needs to know about it!

Don't just call the shelter; GO TO all area shelters, rescues, and pounds every day and check every cage yourself. That's the ONLY way to be sure that your dog isn't sitting in a cage at one of those facilities. Shelter workers often don't know one breed from another, so phone calls can't guarantee that your dog isn't there.

Make up posters with your dog's photo and post them at all area vets, groomers, boarding kennels, pet stores, feed stores, and distribute them to all of your neighbers and within several miles of your home. Talk to all of the previously mentioned business owners, as well, and make sure they know about your lost dog.

I sure hope you can find your little girl.

Mary, Any word on your Pomeranian yet? I have a feeling someone decided they "needed" your furbaby...

See if you can get it on the local news that someone was seen taking her. Plaster pictures of her everywhere. The more pressure you can put on whoever took her that someone may recognize the dog the better chances you have of getting her back. People that steal or pick up dogs like that often have bad motives in mind such as bait for fighting dogs.

Oh, redpenny I'm so sorry! That is a horrible thing for someone to do! I agree though that you should make up posters and take them to all of the vets in your area. Good luck, I sure hope you find her.

No word on her yet I did the flyers and checked the shelters they have a pic.no results.....I did find out today there is another dog missing in this area when I went around with flyers..........I keep you all posted!

Petfinder sometimes lists lost dogs. Maybe if you post her there someone who knows the thief will recognize her. It would reach a wider range of people and I doubt someone would steal a dog close to their home because they would have to keep them hidden.

Put in your ads that she has serious health problems and needs medication right away. This could make the guy not want to deal with her if he just wanted a pet.

Also, don't give up too soon on checking the shelters. If the guy gets afraid of being caught or if she doesn't work out, he may turn her in down the road.

So sorry this happened to you. People can be so despicable!

Oh no. I agree with the poster who mentioned that anyone that would stop and take a dog does NOT have good motives in mind. A true lover of animals would stop their car and catch the dog and immediately start knocking on doors, looking to reunite the animal with its owner.

We currently have a problem in our area with people taking dogs for the dog fighting rings, they also go on sites like craiglist and pass themselves off as a family looking for a pet, more than happy to take your "free to good home" animal off your hands. They will even PAY THE ADOPTION FEE that some people ask, as long as it doesn't cut into their "profit" when they sell the animal to the dog fighting rings. It is a sad, sad world until people get together and DEMAND from our friends the politicians stricter laws against animal cruelty in all forms.

For your sake, and the sake of your poor dog, I really hope that it WAS an animal lover who took her. Keep looking, go to shelters in person, hang posters everywhere....offer a reward. Pray. I will pray for you too, that your little one makes it home safe...

And for everyone who lets their dogs out without supervision, or if your dog is good at shooting by you when you open the front door, be careful. This is NOT a nice world we live in, regardless of what we want to believe.

I think it is still very possible the dog was taken for a pet. Little dogs are often wanted, but can be expensive so they would be worth stealing to a scumbag. Just because someone wants a pet doesn't make them an upstanding individual who would knock on doors if they found a stray.

I had a tiny maltese years ago and we lived in an apartment, so I was often seen walking her. A neighbor approached me one day and informed me that another neighbor (one I didn't know) had her eye on my dog because she wanted her and had stated that she'd grab her if she ever had the chance. I recently saw a "lost" ad from a woman who was mugged for her shih tzu, too.

Anyway, my point is that the OP shouldn't assume the worst or feel discouraged about searching because the dog may be fine.

I had a friend who was from Newfoundland who said that they (Newfoundlanders) loved Pomeranians (not sure why). They are an adorable breed and I've wanted one too but I'm not sure its the best breed for me or that I'm able to provide the proper home for a pet at this point in time. While these dog fighting rings sound horrible I think she would be worth more as a pet or even sold as a pet. I can't believe some human beings would be so cruel! But I have hopes you find your pet and I'll pray she finds her way back to you.

Even if the dog WAS stolen to be someone's pet, what kind of person would do that? Regardless, I would not want my beloved pet in their hands. Also, if things didn't work out with the pet the way they expected, that sort of person would be likely in a week or 6 months or whenever to just dump the poor thing on the side of the road. After all, it isn't like they paid for the animal or really had anything invested emotionally. And, we are talking about a theif, a person who has no problem with just taking something that does not belong to them. Not exactly a moral, upstanding citizen.

I know that dogs get out and run off all the time, Lord knows mine has, and when I first got him I spent more than one night searching the neighborhood - but I was lucky, I found him before someone else did. Now, even though he will usually stay by my side, he does NOT leave the house without being on a leash. It is my responsibility to keep him protected, safe and at my side. We have to be careful, because of all the jerks out there. That is just the way it is. Can't be too trusting, especially these days.
