i have a gc-a33jvc digital camera.it is a cheapy that has to have pitures downloaded to computer using mgi photosuiteIIISE twaian driver soft ware.the soft ware is down loaded corectly and instructions areto down load from camera.every time i try to download pitures it always says your camera is not turned to pc mode or ub cable is not conected.it is and cant figure wats wrong.i have used the camera ub cable for a scaner also could that cause this it said use cable for camera only.i have better camera but would like my son to start of with this one.any sugestions greatly apreciated

In you menu to you have a communication setting for PTP? Do you use Win XP? I was able to dl from my old camera without using software, I plugged the camera into a USB port and the computer recognized new hardware on the taskbar. A menu came up after a bit asking what I wanted to use. I closed that because one of the options messed up my numbering system.

Then I went into Windows Explorer, located the camera, opened the folder (mine was buried about 3 deep), did a select all, then a copy to folder, usually had a folder made ahead of time.

If you have a friend with a card reader, you could also try that. What flash card does your cam use?

Tons of stuff about it. Sounds like you have to use the TWAIN software that comes with it. I can't find anything specific about downloading photos. Sorry and good luck. It's usually something simple. Read the manual. Make sure you have the latest drivers. Make sure the batteries are fully charged.

I don't think it has a flash card but may use internal memory from what little I could tell.

I have never liked pulling the card in and out compared to hooking my camera up USB, but now am doing such as I was having trouble DL'ing my camera software into my new XP computer. I have had that happen to me too to where I bought a new card etc. After use in my computer, when I turned my camera on after inserting the card, it would show No pictures or something to where I could not shoot until I fiddled around with it. So far, I am having luck as I slowly put it in and out, holding my breath hoping. I also found trouble occurred when thinking I had to use that Safely Remove Hardware from the taskbar which I don't do now. When swapping the settings on your camera I assume you have tried the very highest settings? This will give you as good a photo as possible from the camera. Regarding the software and viewing the photo. Are the 'swirls' emanating from a central point and moving out like ripples? Is so this may very well be to do with your flash. Most digital cameras have the flash activated by default and so many users never turn them off. A camera flash is only any good for a few short feet, after that they are basically useless I find. Try taking some shots without the flash, you will need to support the camera or practise standing very still because the shutter will stay open longer in lower light. If you are trying to save a few important photos already taken you might try to resample a shot and set the pixel density to 150 or even 300 to see if that helps eliminate the ripples and wavy lines. JASC may use a different term for resampling, Corel uses Resample, Paint uses Attributes. Same soup just different gravy :-)

We have a Nikon D40X, which has been discontinued in favor of the D60. You know you can't beat a DSLR. Not only is the picture quality amazing at the fastest iso settings, there is absolutely no delay when you take a picture. As a matter of fact, if sports are important to you, 3 frames a second in continuous mode is what you'll want. It delivers. It's also nice to be able to change lenses. I look at it as upgradeable. There is a drawback, size. Because of the size and weight of the camera we actually just bought a compact to supplement. We use the compact for everyday type events and the Nikon for the bigger ones (as long as I'm the one carrying it around). Okay, why'd I tell you all that when your looking for a compact? Because our compact is an Olympus Stylus 1010 and the picture quality rivals the Nikon. Both are 10 megapixel cameras (actually the Olympus is 10.1). Of course we can do much more with the Nikon but the Olympus is much more convenient when traveling or just taking everyday shots. The Olympus cost us $400 with extended warranty, 2x 2gig xD memory chips, and bag. You can get a Nikon D60 for about $650 is you look hard enough. And D40X for a little less than that. If you transferred the pictures from one to the other, I can only assume that you were able to transfer them onto the computer? Can you now transfer them back? If not, most places can just take the entire memory card and pull pictures from it for printing.

yes i am ussing twain software which i just recently reinstaled. batterys are fully chargedin camera. using xp windows.i turn camera to pc mode before clicking twain icon or after making no diferance always says camera not on and no conection detected.i have tried original ub cable that came with camera and a generic no luck.could i try camera at a photo store or some other place to see if it works. and yes it only has internal memory

Yes, you could take the camera to a photo store and see if they can download your photos, might cost you a little money. If they can't do it, maybe there's something wrong with the software, camera, port, communication with Win XP. I understand your frustration.

So many times I have struggled with a problem, lived with it not working right, sometimes paid a shop to troubleshoot, only to find that in most cases it is something simple. Sometimes I did well to pay the shop because it turned out to be something I could not fix without new hardware. I had to have a new USB card installed for all the stuff I plug in, the ports on my computer were not accepting whatever it was, can't remember, I've had to do so much the last few years.

Sorry I don't have the answer for you. I couldn't find anything on the net or google archives of people with a similar problem. Don't mess with some of those driver sites, they have an agenda.

Email the company. Some don't answer. Persist. They have a website and should have customer support. I hope I picked the right url for the corporation; they certainly have enough different models of cameras. I just cancelled the language pack window that popped up. There is a contact and support tab in the upper right.

From that link, you should be able to get to their main page if that page doesn't have anything helpful.
