lymph nodes

Hello.

2/5 I found a kitten out in a field. eye and nasal discharge was heavy. I gave him antibiotics and a warm place to live and the discharge went away for the most part but he still seemed a little off for such a young kitten.

I took him in to be neutered and they said they wouldn't do it because his lymph nodes were enlarged and he had a nasal discharge. The next day I took him to a vet. We tested for leuk and for fiv - both negative. She gave me Clavamox and sent me home with my kitten. I thought I knew how to pill a cat but I think he was expelling them unbeknownst to me for the first day or two. I'm more careful now.

My question is: The vet tech seemed to think that I could tell if the nodes were enlarged just by feeling. Can a layperson really be able to tell if these nodes are enlarged? She was showing me the ones in the neck and on the back of the rear leg. She seemed to think it was pretty obvious.
