At least that I can remember. It's $3.16 a gallon. I'll wait till tomorrow, it's usually cheaper in Lexington.

Hadn't checked it in a while, but we were out today and I noticed that it looks like it's still in the $2.90 range around here. Hard to compare that to prices elsewhere (except Oregon), because we don't have self-serve stations in our state. All are full-serve.

It was $3.49 here two days ago....at the lowest stations....no telling what it is today.
I gassed up when it was only $3.43/gal. so my tank is almost full, thank goodness.

Newbie here, looking at modular cooktops for gas & induction

Wow, thanks everyone for your experiences. I'd still love to see more setups, particularly to see how the different models look together. I'm much closer to narrowing down my choices.....It looks like the 36" bluestar cooktop (slide in, 6 burners) with the 12" Diva module to the right of it (so it can be an extension of my prep area if needed). For that 48", I'll probably have to slide the prep-sink over one space, giving me over 45" of prep space (as opposed to the 33 if I go with the current sink position and 45" proposed cooktop layout). I was really drooling over the Gaggenau 36" cooktop (so unbelievably sexy!) but I'm concerned about all the electronic wizardry they are using to control the gas....I prefer my ability to control (and the reliability inherent in a more simple design). Now I just need a hood. I was looking at the Broan IEX222 (51") but it's extremely expensive and not nearly as sleek as the Futuro 48". And it's reputed to be powerful and quiet...

I've been advised to replace what seems to be a good system

I took the advice of the group. I found a qualified professional. He took a look at the issues. Normally, this guy does mostly commercial. He has a small group of referral only residential customers. He said that there was no need to replace either the 10 year-old Trane heat pump or the slightly older 80% efficiency backup natural gas furnace. They had more years of satisfactory service. He did warn me that coolants would be changing in a year or so. The old stuff will start to get scarce. That's not a problem until the heat pump springs a leak. He suggested for immediate attention he would remove all the stopgap tape and mastic. He would properly align the plenum and clean the coil while he had access to it. Then he would button it all up. He agreed that the vent pipe was fine as is. I told him we would be doing a renovation in the near future and would undertake to address the situation when the wall was opened. He said that a new double insulated pipe could be inserted through the roof, if necessary. But, as things currently stood it was okay. He said to develop a phased plan. We will think about adding more returns replacing duct work in the future. I like how he addressed things. We felt like we were dealing with a used car salesman when we were dealing with the first guy. I called and cancelled the replacement appointment. This company has lost my business. I know I didn't provide all of the system details, but I appreciate the second opinions. If it doesn't feel right, it probably isn't. You've saved me some money and a lot of wasted effort.

A cool front has passed through southern WI and is headed to the east coast. Relief is on the way. Behind the front, day temps are 70s to low 80 with drier air: Dew point 60 F. No wind to speak of so can not tarry outside because of misquitos - have to keep moving or get eaten. We've had our share of rain the past 3 days. The problem was the rain clouds were strung over 200 miles and were aligned with the direction of travel. The rain front was not exceptionaly wide. The result was 200 miles of rain clouds passed over the same spot. Menomonee Falls and Milwaukee, WI got flooded. Nicolet High School in Glendale, WI got flooded: 6 to 8 ft or water in the basement and 1.5 ft of water running down the halls on hte first floor. The gym floor went under. They had just gotten in new sports gear for the fall term and it was stored in the basement. Official's preliminary estimate is $1 million to clean and repair. They think that if crews start now and work 7 days a week, the school may be in shape in time to open for the fall term. And of course by now, you have heard about the Cadillac Escalade swallowed by a sink hole. The vehicle pulled up to a stop light, the street caved in dropping the vehicle into a 15 ft deep hole and to add insult, the stop light also fell and leaned on the car. Its going ot be interesting to see how the insurance companies react to this one. I can hear it now: This was flood damage and your policy does not cover flood. The real sob story goes to a the owners of 5 to 7 homes on the north side of Milwaukee. Their basements caved in; the city condemed the properties as uninhabitible and has ordered immediate demolition. One woman lamented: "I bought this house not long ago for $120,000 and have 20 more years of mortage left. I'm loosing my house this week, but the mortage lives on." She'll get nothing from her home owner's insurance because it is flood damage, and most homes in that area do not carry flood damage because they were not in a flood plain and up to now, it was not needed. A number of cars parked in underground garages were flooded. If the water level got up to the relay box under the hood or the fuse panel under the dash, these will be totaled by the insurance firms. Yes sireee, the is the second time in 15 years that we got a 100 years rain.

Jin, Jackie, Stephanie, Lisa, Sheila, Perma, thanks for your responses. California does sound like it's fighting a battle against fire. Jackie, our local council passed the worst tree ordinance in the history of mankind, basically requiring a significant portion of the wood cover of the area to be cut down, at owners' expense. Fortunately they got voted out of office, sheerly by accident (this is Italy), and the new center-left council recognizes that trees actually have their positive side and repealed the ordinance. Also they planted trees around the middle school after the previous council had the ones there all cut down. I wasn't familiar with recall, but thank goodness you have it. Also thank goodness your wonderful garden, inspiring to us all, isn't going to fall entirely victim to the (legitimate) demands of fire safety. Congratulations on your incredibly energetic and hard-working helper! We all need one or two of them in our lives. Jin, planting's not over. I think we might complete basic planting in five years of so, and since DH will be nearly ninety then, whether we'll finish is very much open to doubt. We do what we can. Stephanie, agree with your ideas about the importance of structure. Also, trees and large shrubs produce a wider range of conditions in which plants can grow the when there's just meadow: think cyclamen, hellebores, epimediums, forest floor bulbs; all plants for which I struggle to find places to grow. Trees have an ecologically stabilizing effect, I think, helping keep weeds under control. Unfortunately they grow very slowly here, at least, ours always have. Even once we get all the trees we want planted, it's going to take a couple of decades for even the faster-growing species to reach a decent size. Our clay soil is fertile enough once amended with organic matter, but the amendment is a gigantic task. We've put over a hundred tons of old hay into the garden, and it could absorb another hundred tons without the least difficulty. It's an illustration at least of how effectively soil can sequester carbon when properly managed. Congratulations on your rain, Lisa and you other Californians! Rain has gotten more capricious here in late years. We had a wet spring and early summer, then dry late summer and early fall. In November it finally began to rain, and rain, and rain, and now the watercourses, ponds, and aquifers are brimming. I hope you'll be able to say the same soon. Part of what I'm interested in in my gardening is capturing that rainfall instead of letting it run off. And preventing topsoil loss. The year 2017 lives in my memory, and not in a good way. My guess is more years like that are going to come. We're doing our best to get our garden and land, and us, in the best shape possible to resist prolonged drought. Shade! we need shade! I wish you all happy gardening, or, for those in cold climates, a pleasant break from gardening! And happy holidays! P.S. I think I cross-posted with Kes, to whom: thanks for the good wishes!

But if you put it in Perspective,it's really not bad, considering i pay 6.00 for a gallon of Naked Orange Juice, and that's at Costco. So that's how i justify it,and i can say that, because i'm retired and don't have to drive to work every day.LOL,LOL That's my reasoning to make me feel better !! We do what we gotta do,cause y'all know we're not gonna stop driving no matter how much it cost!!!!!

Kathi, Your comment reminded me of going to a fast food joint. When the girl at the counter asked if I wanted a drink, I said I don't buy drinks because they cost more than gasoline. She immediately told me that a drink was $1.50, but gas was $2.50. Even when I told her that gas was $2.50 a GALLON and soda is $1.50 a CUP, she just couldn't grasp it. Hope she didn't quit her day job, lol!! I can't even imagine how much a Starbucks is a gallon, or bottled water. We have to buy gas no matter what it costs. We pay a hefty premium on it here in California and just have to live with it if we want to go anywhere. Carol's quoted price of $3.49 is probably the same over on my side of town. Linda

Hi cashcroper,

It takes 3.85 or 3.87 some litres to make a U.S. gallon (wine measure, I think): the 4.55 is for a Canadian gallon (Imperial measure).

Clarksburg and Morgantown it is about 3.29/gallon for regular. I used about 35-40 dollars worth a week commuting four days. Thank goodness Eric only has to commute two days a week or he would use over 100 a week!

Gas in Alberta is hovering around the $1.09 a litre, though Safeway you can save 7 cents a liter and Esso's and a few other places offer a 3.5 cents off per litre savings.... Still is too high
