I is for Isabel Bloom, Iron, Ice, Ivy, Iresine

I thought I'd be hard put to come up with any i's other than my one iris photo, nothing special there. The late Isabel Bloom sculpted this little girl in our local conservatory:

Here's an iron viaduct (they were shuffling cars after a train derailment I photographed):

Here's some ivy which I posted because this stuff is invasive and I wanted to know what to spray it with (house across the street, I keep pulling it off mine so it won't get like this):

Finally just taken this morning, my windowbox with trailing Iresine (I didn't know what the stuff was called when I bought it at Lowe's half price). Went back for something else and saw a tray with the same plant that was labelled.

Nice list, thanks! I have a dog, so the indoor plants I have are nontoxic: an african violet, a nontoxic fern, culinary herbs in hubby's Aerogarden, and a goldfish plant (which I love!! It is so cool looking.) Used to have a Persian violet which was fabulous and fragrant-- smelled great for about 2 months, but it eventually finished flowering, sickened and died. It was replaced by the goldfish plant.

Goodmorning Everybody ! :) I heard from my swappers last night...:))) Mariann I have a couple of surprizes for you...We love putting surprizes in our boxes Regina started it.. Chell you are so creative and your writing is so much fun to read... I bet the boys loved playing pirate.. I can see their smiling faces now...What a great idea to make a hideout.. They will always remeber their hideout mom made for them... Norma I havent traded with you but I am sure you went way above in sending her nice cuttings..I seen pics of what you send...They are awesome boxes..:)) Please dont be sad..:)) Regina howdy :) I am so sorry about Mark having to have surgery and the heart condition would just send me into heaven.. Wow I am so glad to read it all went well...Shooo My heart sank for a minute...He will be all healed for college this fall..:)) You empty nester dont go through what I went through...Stay busy and call them alot... I miss my kids so much it hurts sometimes... Dogs are okay but they cant replace our true babies...I love reading about chell and her boys... It makes me smile so much... Frances lol You poor gardener..ahhah You need a break from mother nature..Really..:)) Oh big snakes yucky... I would be screaming... I love chippies...They are so cute...Havent had many around with a cat now...Kiki has brought home two gardener snakes...He was very proud of himself... Yesterday I was getting ready to go out and play in the dirt...The crows or blackbirds were screaming...It just like a scene in the movie the "birds"... It creeped me out really bad...I couldnt see what they were yelling at.. I watched tv...Than got bored and went coleus shopping..lol The master gardener sale for the next county over is tommorow... I cant wait to see what they are going to be offering..I have never been to this one...Oh I almost forgot..I heard from the master gardener I met...Looks like we are building another gh..lol She wants to do it closer to fall since everyone is busy with their gardens...I am glad we could help her..They are a pain to build.. well I gabbed enough lol must be the strong coffee and I got a lot of sleep...:)) Have a good day everybody..Barb

Even though there have been other postings of IN HIGH REGARD, I decided to add mine to the mix. It is one of my favorites in the garden. It is such a clean looking flower. ISABELLE ROSE: Perfection!!! I am frequently disappointed by the Stout Medal winners, but not this one! INQUIRE WITHIN: Another outstanding plant. I love the color combination and plant habit is not too shabby. It is well branched and budded. INDY SHOCKER: Not the best picture. This is the most difficult daylily bloom to photograph regardless of the lighting conditions. It is a well branched and budded plant. Blooms for a long time. The only drawback is that it is slow to increase. Honorable Mentions: IRON WARRIOR: A newer Bennett intro. It is a big bloom. I am hoping that it continues to put out blooms like this. IT'S THE RAGE: Hoping that it gets taller, but I like the teeth. That is it for me. David

Sometimes I like to shoot things that might appeal to guys for some reason; I do whatever looks interesting at the time. I take a lot of shots to get one I like; the rr worker could be seen between the iron supports; otherwise I wouldn't have chosen that particular one.

Clairdo2, that is pink geranium. The Iresine is the maroon plant that spills over the edges. I never heard of it before but now that I have used it, I like the effect. Could use something else to trail, but I was lucky to get that far.

When I bought those sale plants, the poor geraniums were all bent over, but once I got them transplanted, they have grown upright, seem very happy in their new home. The vinca in the back isn't doing so well, guess it's too short, never dealt with that before either. I stuck some alyssum in there later, and it should start to spill over, too. I planted that way too thick in another planter. A little of that goes a long way.

I will try to save the geranium through the winter in the house, maybe the Iresine will overwinter that way, too.

I love the local college with that gorges tree in front the best.

Konrad, you are the first person who has ever indicated a positive reaction to that photo. I have 8X10's made of my favorite photos and keep them in albums, many have seen this one before. I'm partial to this one even though I know it is very monochromatic. That's part of what I like about it. I waited a long time for the right day to take photos on that campus. I got a lot of good ones that day. Some days aren't so good.
