Comments (43)Still playing catch-up. Here's a list of what especially struck me above. First, it was cool to open up to Cat Dancer. It's been on my list for years, and many places sell it for only 5. Why don't I have it? And your Ciel D'or picture really does get the details, Sherry. Maryl, Coral Corduroy is very pretty. Great color. Laura, Capt. Noodles, Classy columbus are nice, Kay Crystalline Butterfly, and Heather Cobraska Necktie. Of course there are great ones that many have like Claudine, Catastrophie Waitress and Coral Majority. Carman Renee Castle Pinkney Catastrophie Waitress Chance Encounter Cherry Cheeks Cherry Treat is a treat in 2 senses of the name: treat as in great color, and treat as in when I get a nice bloom. But it stays despite low bud count and being splotchy very often. more to come...See MoreD daylilies 2021
Comments (29)I am so far behind. I am awestruck at how many nice d daylilies there are. Kate, that is a great snowman!!!!!! Here's a few I especially liked: Sherry-Devine Design; David-Dracula; Mantis, Dawn of Aquarius & Dark Bat; Kay-desperate House Cats; Pam-Dad's Pyrotechnics; Debra-Dancing Flamingo, Dearest Valentine; Heather-Dragon Fire Breath; Nancy-I'm with Bob on Golden Glow; and Kate, wow a lot I really like. I narrowed it down to Deep Waters and Dr. McGregor's Garden. Great color schemes and eyes. I don't recall seeing them before but they are striking. Do the Twist. Desert Icicle Daveo Holeman. So pretty. Too bad it is so short and poorly budded. I moved it to by itself beside the trash bin. It works. Brad...See MoreT daylilies 2021
Comments (39)Heather, my experience with Thomas Tew has been entirely different! It quickly became one of my “suitcase” lilies. Every year the very first bloom has a beige look to it but all others after that are a creamy white. The purple is a deep velvety purple with none of the red tones Debra’s seems to have. It reblooms at least three times every year and the blooms range from 6-7 inches. This goes to show how different plant habit and colors can be in different gardens. I say this not to recommend one way or the other but to give an anecdotal record of this plant in my garden. This is my favorite picture of it In my yard In May. This is it on rebloom last year. I do notice more of the red tones on these in 100 degree heat in August!! This sorta reminds me of a couple of years ago when Laura posted pictures of her garden tours. She posted Entwined in the Vine and it was a muddy mauve look that I have seen on other pictures of it. In my garden (and Kay’s and Debra’s as well I think) it has gorgeous lavender and purple shades. I would never buy it if it was muddy! So glad that is not the case here!!...See MoreBest Budded Registered Daylilies of 2021
Comments (32)I realized I never got back to add the bud count fir Hakuna Matata. It is still blooming, and still getting multiple blooms every day, but the end is near. It has been blooming just I very a month now. The 5 best scapes, out of 9, were 41, 42, 46, 49, and, wait for it... 55. I have never had a plant bloom so well. I rarely have plants meet their bud count, much less exceed. Maybe it is location, Entwined in the Vine is pretty close, and had higher bud counts. There are several other daylilies near though that bloom well, but not like this. Wish the blooms were a little larger. It sets pods easily. I started seeds last winter, but stuff came up and they did not survive my neglect, but the seeds had really good germination....See MoreMaryl (Okla. Zone 7a)
