Trudymom - Wow...would be easier to find something I don't like about it. LOL!

We drink a LOT of tea, so this is something I use every day, sometimes twice a day. First, I like that it's big -- 1.8 quarts. I like the balance, weight and construction of it -- enamel on steel with stainless handle. And, because I had the terrible habit of putting on water and then getting distracted, I LOVE the train whistle it does. We had one whistling kettle that I'd not hear at first, then it would be like "What the blazes IS that?" This one isn't obnoxious, but neither are you going to tune it out. I also like the angle of the handle -- one kettle I had was very awkward to pour from. And I like that it heats water more quickly than the other's I've had.

What it is NOT is cheap. I got mine at cost and I still blanched. Now that I've used it a few years, if I ever have to replace it, I'd buy the exact same one even at full price.

Clare - They also had a few Le Crueset kettles (but those don't whistle, and I know I need that whistle or I'll run the thing dry!) The only 1.8 Chantals I saw at our store were the stainless, but they had lots of the 1.3 size in both the conical and the ball shapes. And lots of colors. Looks like they aren't making that pretty apple green or bright blue anymore, so that explains why those colors were there so cheaply, but I can't figure out why the red were marked down so much.

mutter...I was just at Marshalls yesterday & they must have sent all of the good stuff somewhere else...mutter.

LOL! I don't go into Marshall's very often for that exact reason. I don't enjoy looking through broken stuff. I don't get why they display their stuff in such a way that it's sure to get broken & chipped, and then don't bother to clear it out when it does. Does anyone actually buy that stuff??

However!! I may stop in on my way home tonight or in the morning to check out their LC stuff. I need to go to the bookstore that is right next door to Marshalls so maybe I'll just pop in and see what's what. Thanks for the alert!

Ok, I shouldn't have read this thread. I went to Marshalls today and ended up walking out with a cart. I know what you mean about broken stuff, etc but I didn't have that experience this time. Upon your recommendation, I ended up purchasing a chantal teapot I didn't need ;0 I really like the whistling ones, but the ones I've purchased in the past you needed to take the whistling part off to pour the water, and the way I go through tea I ended up just keeping it off, so no help to me whatsoever. They only had one teapot left and it was shiny charcoal color, not my first choice, but I'm excited to use it - it was $40. They had a ton of La Creuset I was tempted to buy, but I have a dutch oven and I couldn't rationalize any of the other dishes. I did purchase some chantal dishes I'm trying to decide what to keep - I thought they'd make good soup dishes, not sure what they are really meant for - they came in blue or red and had little flat "handles" on each end of them. I'm still trying to decide whether I should keep them.

Oh man, I know those bowls! And they are soup dishes. They didn't have those at this Marshall's or I would have snapped some up! Those are oven safe, btw.

I know what you mean about the whistling ends. That's another thing I like about my kettle -- the whistle part flips up with a thumb lever.

Oh, Nina, I'm sorry! We had a Marshalls in NC that was like that. The one here is hit or niss in the clothing area, but their housewares area is well-kept/displayed.

I went to Marshall's today and just got some red bowls. I looked at the Chantal teapots--couldn't decide between the shiny charcoal and the red ones. They were $40.00. Maybe I'll go back next week and get one. They also had small t-fall pans for $7.99. I thought that was a good price.

Are you sure those were Chantal? I don't remember that they every made gray anything. Le Crueset makes a gray one.

Yeah, I resisted the Kaiser cake pan the first time, but I may go back and get it.

Yes, I got the shiny charcoal one because they didn't have a red one, but it's already growing on me. It is chantal - has the same features you mentioned and has their co. name on it.

You got me curious, so I went researching. (I was already looking up something else anyway). Apparently they did a very limited run on the colors "Black Pearl" and ;ink. Cool! I found a picture; it's really neat looking.

Aha! Black Pearl sounds SO much nicer than "shiny charcoal" ;)

I didn't see this thread until yesterday, but needed a cou-ple of things that I would be able to find at marshall's so went in mine. In Tyler.Tx. And there were a few pieces. I bought a black pearl skillet for $19.99. I was pleased to find it.Thanks for the hint.

I've eyed the lovely Chantel tea kettles for years, but probably won't by one until my current kettle dies. It's a simple stainless one with a skinny spout, but the train whistle is in the lid knob. Nothing to lift or move when I pour the boiling water. Of course, I do have to pick it up with a potholder because the steam goes straight to the handle.

I have a Olive colored dutch oven on layaway there as we speak 3 of my Marshalls on Long Ilsand are stocking alot of this in different pot types
