Fabric Window Treatments in Bathroom?

I was wondering..does anyone have experience with fabric window coverings such as honeycomb shades or HD Silouettes in a bathroom? I have a rather large (15 X 18 approx) master bath with a window over a jacuzzi tub and I would like to put a fabric as I think it will look nicer than aluminum or wood blinds. My concern is mildew and mold of course. Thanks for any opinions.

I have never used honeycomb shades or Silouettes, but do have fabric curtains, a valence in one bathroom, a roman shade in another. I have never had a problem with mold or mildew and my bathrooms are waaaay smaller than yours.

I had a fabric valance in my very small, fanless bathroom and had no problems with mold/mildew.

If you have white wainscotting and oak trim and floors, I would hesitate to go with a taupe or stone color because in my mind oak is naturally more on the yellow side of things while taupe or stone would be more blueish. I know you said you have blue walls...but the way I imagine it doesn't look right. White or just barely off-white, in my opinion would look better, although without a picture I can't say for certain. And, for the record, taupe is my favorite neutral, so it's not because I don't like the color! I think roman shades are the way to go here. Would the smaller window look silly with roman shades (is it too small)? You could also think about cordless honeycomb shades, which would let in the most light.I don't like those window films - I think if people look in they can still see through them somewhat.

I do no think curtains are appropriate in a bathroom, although it could depend on the space. I like drapes in some rooms, although I also know they can "harbor" dust/mites/allergens regardless of what you do. (When I walk through homes with curtains in the bathroom, it does gross me out a bit.) Because our window is behind the tub/hard to reach and we don't have a pretty view out the bathrooms, we got frosted window glass. There is pretty natural light that comes through constantly, but we have privacy.

Oceanna when you come over for coffee you're going to be locked in a couple of rooms for a while trying to paint your way out via the windows....if your work is good enough we'll let you go, if not, you will have the spend the night...WITH REPUBLICANS!!!! I have a silk curtain with a loop on one base corner that just loops over a hook hung half way up the wall. It's permanently partly open, but can be closed when bathing with a quick release of the loop: (I've re-adjusted the height by the way before you decorating maverns freak out about it LOL)

We've got some pretty fancy fabric in the master bath in this rental. They're hung like curtains (just a single panel wide) on a hospital track like thing, each flanking the tub and shower. They're silk, and lined. I took them down when we moved in because it was obvious that they had not been cleaned in ohhhhh 20 years or more.

Bad news...they were filthy :oP Good news, no mold, and this is a tiny windowless bathroom with a broken fan. (which will be gutted soon).

I decided to just skip the whole question of fabric WT in the bathroom, and skip any laundry from curtains by doing Gallery Glass on the windows instead. Now I have privacy, and beauty to see every time I'm in there, plus full light coming in.

The rental houses we stay in every year at a beach all have fabric honeycomb shades in all the rooms, including the bathrooms. I hate them as they are always sooooo dirty and nasty. It's one comment I always put on the complaint form for the office.

Granted that a beach enviro is humid and damp... but those fabric shades just seem to attract more than the usual amount of dust and all the other bathroom fluff.

Fabric itself if washable is great as a WT... but I would be very leery of the fabric blinds unless you are willing to vac them on a regular basis. Even if your bath has a wonderful vent system... the "fluff" will be attracted to the stationary blinds.
