New kitten in my house.
Comments (23)Lis, you and the family are more than welcome, anytime. It took many months and Xanax to learn to live with a gator in the back yard. Since, I work at home and am outside all day, as is the dog, the gator has moved to the other end of the lake. When we first moved here I had one very notable close encounter, like 10 feet away, that flipped me out. I was outside watering the orchids when all of a sudden, it surfaced right there in the lake. The resident gator is about 12 feet. The first time I ever heard it "growl", one night, also flipped me out as I was sure it was right outside the porch in the shadows where I couldn't see it. I figured if I didn't get over it, I'd end up institutionalized:) Fortunately, I haven't seen it in months and heard it last week for the first time since May. There is a pod of manatees living in the lake a block away, at the end of the street, which is way cool. One guy who lives on that lake, spent 2 hours one day scratching them. Evidently, the bull brought the pod over for a good back scratching from a human. This is why I've gotten over being 10 miles from the nearest grocery store....See MoreDemo has begun...but bad news and more $
Comments (14)-call your local permit office and ASK if a permit is/was needed. Better to know in advance. anytime they say one isn't needed, call and ask for yourself. You will be the one to suffer if it is needed and isn't pulled. also - many gcs/subs will tell you lots of things that aren't true. If suspicious (and be suspicious) ask someone else (not working on your house at the time), google it. don't think that just because you aren't changing the 'footprint' that you don't need a permit - that's not true. I know a bit more about cars than most women but I always act like I haven't the faintest clue. And I always require any changed out parts to be given to me. That way if I do have a question about if that part needed changed, I have the old part to look at or take to another mechanic. My old mechanic from my early yrs (a family friend) taught me to do that - and I always hung out with him when he worked on my car. I loved hanging out under the car or hood with him - lol!...See Moremy other cats don't get along with new kitten
Comments (1)Just give it time. The fact that your timid girl will come out of hiding to watch the kitten indicates that she is slowly adjusting to her presence. Over the next few weeks (or months), the timid girl will come to realize that the kitten poses no real threat, and they will likely start playing with each other. Just don't try to force any sort of interaction between them. That would be too intimidating for your timid one. Let her make this adjustment in her own way and in her own time. In the meantime, keep doing what you're doing. Give the timid girl lots of extra attention and play time. Make sure she knows that you will protect her from the kitten if the kitten becomes too bothersome. When the kitten starts chasing timid girl, distract the kitten with toys and interactive play. The safer timid girl feels, the more quickly she will adjust. Laurie...See Moremy kitten has FIP
Comments (44)Thank you everyone for your kind words and prayers. It has been not quite two full days after saying goodbye to Henry and it is still hard to not imagine him being in his favorite spot when I go in a certain room or find him following me. It has been such a hard emotional month dealing with all this; I miss him terribly even though there is a relief that I don't have to worry about him anymore. It was hard to put away his bedding and I have yet to clean his food dish with his latest meal still in the fridge, but I know it will probably take me a few more days before I am able to think of him without such saddness. I am just still so bitter and in shock that something like this can be so devastating. I wish I could do something to help fund research to find a cure or a medicine that would allow cats to live with this disease. Does anyone out there know if there is a place that is working on an FIP cure/vaccine? I would be interested to know. Soemone said it earlier, that this is just such an evil disease, and I figured out that it is because there is no hope that one can hang onto........you feel so helpless........as his "mom" that was just so hard for me to deal with, and of course the not knowing when and how long he would stay with me until the time came to relieve him of his suffering. I found comfort in reading all your words, so thank you again for supporting me through this hard time. Wow, it hasn't even been a month........i think back to a few weeks ago, I have a picture of him in my washing machine where he was exploring one day and I had to snap a picture, that was Henry.......just a sweet little kitten snooping around my space while I was close by. He always had a way of looking right at me with his eyes, almost like he was trying to tell me something.......and I have to believe it was love, and that's why losing him has been so hard, he was one of those kitties who really, really loved you(me). I hope that if anyone else is going through this with their kitty they can find some help and support through this forum, I didn't know who I could talk to and this really helped fill a void. So onto the healing and again, just love love love your animals, in sickness and in health, because once they're gone you can't go back and have more time with them, and at least you can hold onto the fact that you gave them all the time, attention and love that you had. Again, peace and thanks for your prayers, D....See MoreJenDye21
