I don't have the right rose in bloom right now myself! It's more for understanding why the beautiful painting "works" and how it works visually. The neighbors must have wondered why I was sitting out front in my bathrobe when it was 85 out. I taped little cans of paint to some of the rose canes to get them to hang down a little for the picture. Ha ha! Actually it will help my photography skills, I think--trying to get the picture right gives you a feel for composition skills. You figure out artist's tricks by trying to imitate them. Sometimes paintings are physically impossible to re-create--the artist has done some trick of perspective to make the picture the way he wants it--if you try to make a photograph the same way, it doesn't always work. (I used a photobucket "effect" to make it look like a painting). A fun exercise, give it a try!

Josh, I do have some Japanese Painted Ferns but what is shown is varagated Packasandra. Started with a few plants that take off from stem cuttings in the early spring. Now I have hundreds used as a border. Behind them Hosta Gold Standard and various common ones. Under a seedling Japanese maple tree. There is some mix-mash of wild ferns from our woods. Also a few jack'n the pulpit just for fun. Wait, in the first picture is a Japanese painted fern. You are right my friend.

#1 Possibly a Jackfruit variety? Looks different than my MIA-1s, and the limbs look too slender considering the size of the tree. #2 Unknown. I first thought Macadamia Nut, but mine have had no color change from frost. #3 Sapodilla. Easy! Very nice tree! #4 Tamarind! A lovely one! #5 Unknown. Looks related to Magnolia. I'm stumped.. It does not look like my Black Sapote. #6 Longan? Where are you that you have such gorgeous, mature tropical fruit trees? Most of mine are babies, so I'm not too good at IDing mature trees. Yet.. But, I'm learning. I'm horribly jealous! Lisa
