I took all the "stuff" to our tax lady the other day. We were chatting & I commented that I had recently bought a new sewing machine & how I love quilting, etc. She says, "I don't have a crafting bone in my body. When I was a child I wanted to be a banker & I played 'bank', rather than play house or dolls." Then she picks up our 1099-form from the credit union, fondles the paper, & says, "Oooo, that's nice paper!"

I thought it was amusing, because I am the same way ... only my fondling is with fabric. I related this story to my friend & she says her mother, who was a bookkeeper, LOVED to browse in business equipment stores, just like we like to browse over quilting/sewing gadgets.

I too wanted to be in the business world when growing up, but Mom had other ideas and wanted me to be a teacher, went thru college, but this was years ago, and a teacher I am not nor a leader. Wish I had been more firm, but???? Love keeping records and learning crafts It was so frustrating, but in those days we sometimes did what our parents thought we should do.

I think me and Marie had the same Mom. lol I loved art and drawing and wanted to go to art/advertising school.. but my parents said there was no future in it and sent me to Nursing school when I was still 17. I'm not a nurse today. I was too shy, too naive and had no idea what I was doing back then. I don't know that art school would have went better.. but I like to think it would have.

I still like being creative/crafty... but when somebody squishes your dreams it changes things.

As suggested above need to know what engine? My CC RTZ42 has a cheap briggs on it and alot of them now have Kohlers. I would you take the spark plug back out and see if it turns over while watching the spark plug hole in the engine head. Do you see liquid gas coming out? (If yes then the carb. float is sticking/leaking and letting gas into the combustion chamber)Simple fix remove carb and clean it or at worse change the needle and seat if the float not leaking). If you don't see no gas spraying out then I would look at all the switches, this includes the elect blade clutch switch (make sure it pushed in)the steer handles (pushed all the way out so the activate the switches that will keep the engine from starting, the brake is set (switch has to activate with brake set for engine to start, and last the seat switch (your butt has to be in the seat for the switch to be activated. If it still don't crank then I would check the cables from the battery to the starter and from battery to ground. if thats OK, then I would get me a multimeter and start checking all the safety switches mentioned above (they are on and off switches very easy to check, either they alowing current or not). If it still don't start I would find somebody that's willing to look at it. some things I would do I'm sure others will have more suggestions.

I have marble everywhere - perimeters and island - and love every inch of it. I would do it again in a heartbeat. My husband loves it too. We sit at the island every day and eat many meals there (it's just the two of us). We do food prep on it, wine opening and pouring on it, citrus squeezing on it -- and the best is as a baking surface. It's wonderful for doughs. You must be completely honest with yourself about your tolerance for etch marks. Our marble has been used for two and a half years now, and it's got etch marks all over it. Mostly from food in varying sizes and also glass rings near the sink. I knew this would happen and I knew that my long-time desire for marble in my kitchen far outweighed any desire for a pristine looking countertop. Oh, and there's NOT A SINGLE STAIN anywhere, in spite of lots of spills and accidents. My husband does the majority of the cooking and it would never occur to him to wipe the counters down when he's done, so lots of times what's spilled gets to sit overnight before I come down in the morning and put a sponge in my hand. Like I said, no stains.

After dilly_dally's post, I went back and reread this. At first I thought it was a nobrainer that you should have gotten credit for both coupons but I've changed my mind. I misunderstood and thought initially that the hairspray was if you bought a shampoo only, you got the spray - I skimmed too quickly. After going back, yes I agree that it would be giving you a dual break and most coupons prohibit this. You bought the shampoo and conditioner to get the $3 off and to get the free spray, you had to make the same purchase of a shampoo and conditioner. If it had been you get $3 off the shampoo and get a free spray for buying the shampoo and conditioner I'd say you should have gotten both. But I think they were justified in refusing in this case. Now, had you bought two bottles of shampoo and two conditioners, you could have bought a small one for the $3 off and large one for the free spray had you wanted. I had a similar run-in at Kmart last fall but I still think I was right. I had two coupons: - 75Â¢ off the purchase of any Windex multipurpose cleaner - Buy one Windex multipurpose and get one Windex multipurpose free They said I was using two coupons on the same item. I said no, I'm using the first one on the first bottle and the second one on the second bottle. We argued and she was rude, called me names and accused me of being a thief. I told her to keep it. She said "you can't use more than one coupon on a purchase". So I said you mean if I bought the Windex with one of these coupons I couldn't use a coupon for Tide to buy a bottle of Tide???? It never said I had to pay full price for the intital purchase. She started on a rampage and I was in a hurry so I didn't stay to make trouble. I emailed Kmart and of course I needn't say what response I received. And they had a call in # about the transaction on the receipt so I called them too, and it said if I wanted to hear from them to let me know. You know what response I received on that too! Oh but the best part at Kmart? She tried to KEEP the coupons! First, when she refused to give me credit, she still put the coupon in the pouch then when I told her to stuff it, she refused at first to give the coupons back! I told her she was a thief! I knew what she was doing. I've been in retail long enough to know that she's padding her till. But that's another story. Of course they can play all the games they want with coupons as far as what they'll accept or not. And yes, I'm sure most other places would have taken them. My experience was with a nutcase cashier. And I think that other stores might well take both coupons on the Pantene example too. Some stores have looser policies.

Oakley, "I think the room IS lacking in pattern." Really? IRL you can actually see colors in the houndstooth better. I think I'm about at my pattern limit but I like me some buffalo checks. :) Ha, I still remember when I put all the pillows on the bed and DH looked at me and said,"none of them match... ?" I like that rug in the inspiration pic but I'm not going to buy one for the room. Getting the right size could be tricky with the dresser location plus, you won't see it with the bed and I don't have the extra cash for one right now anyhow. Tina, the fabric I bought was only 3/4 yard but it's of the houndstooth pillows from the inspiration photo. I was going to wait to start a thread on that. I'd like to add it to the bed either with a pillow or on a throw... I don't want to find a bunch of the fabric (so please don't look or mention if you find it guys) because I have too much money invested in this room and want to keep all the pillows (except the red). It may not work at all to add that fabric back in but I think just touching it will somehow make me feel better, lol. I admit feeling disappointed looking at the original inspiration photo because I was just so excited about that fabric but I don't want to get into all that crap that went down with NH again. Anyhow, I'm using the original small coordinating houndstooth for the shower curtain base. Have to wait for NH to get more in. Was told by the end of the month. I bailed out on that calico corner plaid and housefabric houndstooth. I think they would've competed with the floral too much and I would've found them too busy. Bonnie, I actually wondered if velvet is dated too and maybe it can be when not used in the right setting. (such as my room):) I'll move on from that mainly because of the cat hair. Pal, That's a very, very good point. My head was really set on brown and brown curtain seems pretty easy to pair with paint so I wasn't too worried. I have that plaid fabric as a topper in my LR with a camel color cloth underneath and I like the combination. I realize the curtains won't be right against the fabric but I'm making the comparision that, my first thoughts for that tablecloth were so set on green, green, green that I couldn't picture the camel color. Turns out I like it much better. I won't know unless I try it. "Benjamin Moore complete set of fandecks has 3645 colors" :) I feel so silly. Returning curtains is much easier than repainting. They should make a t shirt that says that.

Plants! I love just about any plant, but grow tons of tropicals - they are my hobby, my psychiatrist, my tanning booth, my addiction and my sure road to the poor house!

Fabric stores attract me, too, and art supplies even more--even though I don't do much with art. I've always loved paper! And anything to do with rug hooking. I have some of my wool stash sitting out in clear bins this week, and it makes me feel good just to see them.

Kitchen stores attract me, even though I don't do much cooking these days. And I have an inexplicable fondness for hardware stores. Book stores are my #1 candy store, though, for sure.

Mine is fabric too and I almost am "just collector" of fabric. Really need to get busy and make all those quilts I dream of (and purchase for)! But in some ways, I have lived my dreams as I have taught sewing, worked in a fabric store, taken oil painting classes as well as ceramics .... . and never used my secretarial training for very long. Life IS what you make it. Nanny

It has changed over the years. When I was younger it was stores with kitchen things. Later it was dolls shops and now it is electronic stores or office stores. I call it getting my fix. The urge to buy in those stores are stronger in electronic stores and office supply stores. I want to buy every new gadget I see. I do buy a new computer every 2 or 3 years whether I need it or not.

As a kid growing up (and it still is) I love paper and books.
I wanted to be a teacher, because of all the paper and books; then I realized as a teenager that I don't care for kids, so teaching would not be the chosen career.

I still love books, pens, paper, binders....binders full of papers!
Heck I love to *hand-write* my recipes out!!

Love tropical plants as well. I drool over the lush rainforests, etc. I can spend so much time browsing in our local nurseries just feeling the relaxation.

When I was young I loved new coloring books and crayons. I still like them! I recently bought myself two new ones about horses. I love to shop for fabric also, I have a great stash of fabric. I love reading books and have lots of books. I hate to part with them. I used to love gardening but that is pretty much a thing of the past for me.

This is me exactly!

To add to the "rain", growing up my passion was singing and acting on stage. It was who I wanted to be, until the day my mom told me it was "only a pipe dream". It crushed me and took me YEARS to be able to dream about a future again. For some kids it makes them stubborn and determined, for others it makes them sad and insecure.

When I was a little girl about 6 or 7 my neighbor lady (who considered me a step-daughter) took me to the office she worked in in downtown Chicago.
It was exciting and then she took me to heaven the supply storage closet. Wow all those nice smooth pure white tablets and pencils and pens etc. I went home with new pencils and tablets. In school we only used a cheap paper tablets. I've always loved office supply stores.

I love hardware stores.....I think because I have wonderful memories of my Grandpa taking me to the hardware store and treating me like I was an adult....asked my opinion on what nails or nuts and bolts were the best.

I loved to play school when I was a child. I have taught school for 25 years. I also love to look at plants. Hostas and spring flowers are my favorites. Since we are still fixing up our 60's ranch, I like to go to hardware stores. I'm not sure if I will still enjoy them as much, if and when we ever finish this place.

It's kinda sad that our generation was so influenced by our parents. Mine said I could be a nurse or a teacher, so I picked teaching and went to college to study elementary ed. I never taught a day. I like garden centers the best followed by book stores. I love kitchen stores too although I wouldn't qualify as a good cook.

I love House Plans. I drew house plans from the time I was in junior high school. I re-arranged my bedroom countless times on paper. I 'built' several new homes for DH and me -- on paper. My math skills are nil, so I was not about to become an architect, but I can look at a blueprint and see what a house will look like and how it will (or won't) work for daily living. (Love the House related forums on GardenWeb.)

I'm pretty good at navigating -- maps and directions. My mother may have taught me that. She'd take me to Marshall Field's in Chicago and have me find my way from the furniture department (upper floor) to the State Street exit.

I'm NOT a good 'decorator' -- at least not the important small stuff that puts finishing touches on a room. I can envision the look I want, but am timid about hanging pictures, etc. (Not timid about painting a whole room a glossy Hershey Bar brown, and liking it.)

I enjoy reading and writing. I'm a visual learner. Journalism was my major.

Thank goodness for you artsy-craftsy people and for the Math Able!

I love all crafts-I used to sew my own clothes, curtains,etc. Tried quilting but it's too hard/tedious. I love knitting but absolutely cannot get the hang of crochet. Needlepoint, especially stamped cross stitch. Again, tried counted cross st. but got lost trying to follow the pattern. I collect doll house furniture for a set I started back in the 60's-Petite Princess.Almost done finding all the pieces, except for the elusive kitchen.'ve seen pieces here and there but too expensive for me. And I'm no decorator. My house is eclectic. Most pieces of furniture were gifts, hand me downs or found cheap in thrift stores,etc.Even found thrown out furniture in my neighborhood, like a park bench for my backyard. Comfy but not real "together".

Jannie, my house is exactly as you describe - I can afford to buy new stuff, but I'm too 'chintzy'/cheap - I prefer to have furniture and accessories in my home that have been pre-owned and 'broken in' but not broken down.

I purchased a new mattress set 15 years ago, but other than that, if the item can be sanitized and I like it, I get it! If I need something specific and can't find it used, I will buy it new, but that's not the norm for me.

Because of my buying 'habits', I have money to take a vacation every year and BUY PLANTS! LOL

It wouldn't do for all of us to be the same...
