Latest edition: family fuss in the family food factory

For "family food factory' ... the simpler word is "kitchen" .. though in recent years, it seems to be less of a "factory" and more of an "open-package-and-heat" operation.

The family has been involved in a multi-session, and ongoing, dispute, largely over money ... and work.

There've been disruptions in the family members' employment, with some reductions in income, and complaints that there's been too much spending.

There's unhappiness over having been downsized, and having to accept lower-paying employment ... and dissatisfaction with a rather ingrained habit of wanting to go out an buy the latest thing, regardless of the effect on the family pocketbook.

The current fuss has been more vociferous, and longer-lasting, than most.

Then, the son comes running into the kitchen, shouting, "The house is on fire!!".

How long do you figure that the former discussion will continue?

Time for Dad and Mom to quit quarrelling ...

... and work together ...

... one calls the fire department ...

... the other investigates the blaze ...

... and hooks up the hose in the house to douse it, immediately, if possible, no?

Sounds as though some major nations in the western world, having become habituated to living rather high on the hog (higher than ever before in the history of the world), have shown major reluctance to judgements that they need to be more productive ... and less spendthrift.

Could some politicians be more heavily wedded to their party's platform ... than to their allegiance to the best interests of their nation(s), do ya figger?

They claim to love their country, and would dispute anyone who claimed that such love has slipped, some ...

... so how, then, can they torpedo its best interests?

One hears that the judgement that Nero fiddled while Rome burned was spurious.

But the Romans were consumed by entertainment while their empire was slipping down the tubes.
