Have you received your spring copy???

Along with a bill?

It's no longer free.......

They now are asking 11.98 a year ....with a 5.99 a year rate for those of us who have been getting it. But I think that will be just this year.

Will you be paying to receive it?

I've really enjoyed getting it in the past. I may pay.

Probably not for several reasons. I don't cook much and any recipe you want you can find on the internet. Allrecipes.com or the Food Channel's web site. I did enjoy it when I got it but not enough to pay for it.

This thread just tickles the heck out of me! LOL I must 'fess up... I use a lot of convenience items and I have much experience in justifying there use. "What? I thought you didn't want me to get a job? You don't like boxed mac and cheese? But I got this for 'buy one get one free'. Two side dishes for 99 cents. To make mac and cheese from scratch would cost ten times that! What? Did you just say you don't like stove top stuffing? Do you know how much a bag of pepperidge farms costs? Not to mention onions, celery, etc.? Guess I'll be looking for a job after all." "Huh? You don't like stouffers lasagna? But I have to take my mom to get her hair done then take your mom to the grocery store and pharmacy. But, that's ok... you take them both and I'll work on the lasagna. What did you say? No? Ok, turn the oven on then." "Did you say you're DRIVING to the store???? It's less than a mile away so why not put on a coat and hiking boots. Shouldn't take more than a half hour to get there and back. And when you get back, put those tea bags in a jar outside. Why waste electricity when solar power is much better economically and environmentally when walking is better for your health?" *hehe* So, to my grandmother a wringer washer was a convenient item. To her grandmother, a washing board was convenient. To hers, just living close to a creek. Is flour a convenient item? A loaf of bread? Ground beef? And, in time, what's going to be convenient? Companies where you place your weekly menu to be delivered and served in your home at exactly 5:30 PM? Hmm... maybe I just found the start of a new career! Thanks, angelaid! :)

And Happy New Year back at'cha! Wish you all the best in these next months. :) Pit Update: Saturday a friend of a friend came and took both of them. She's mature, got a good job, owns her home with a big yard. She's keeping Bobby (aka puppy-boy) and her neighbor is taking sweet Maggie (aka puppy girl). These were the happiest, sweet dogs. Turned out to be clean, trained, house broken, curious, and just joyful. Someone dumped them, I'm sure, but they were house dogs. Perhaps breeders, but definitely house dogs. It was interesting. All the time they were here, they never left the yard. When I went out, they were right beside me. Bobby, would play catch with a 6' 4x4. Throwing it in the air, standing on it and trying to pick it up. Made it difficult for me to sort out a load of reused lumber, which had nails in it. It had to wait. He was a JOY. What a energetic puppy he was. He'd sit and kinda roll backwards with his feet stuck out in front of him, like puppies do. Didn't quite lift his leg. Hasn't earned his man card yet. Although they always wanted to ride in my car, they didn't want to go with her. (Leaving me? Awwww) But once in the car, they settled in, with their heads poking out between the seats to look out the window. The only time I'd see Maggie get excited was when wheels turned. Cars, trucks, bikes. She'd bite at them from underneath the door, vs. from the front. Scared me she'd get a tooth stuck and be crushed. I mention this, because the week before I had to get 2 new tires. Saturday night when I came out of work, I had a flat. Grrrrr. Had myself towed to my car place. He called me the next morning and asked if I'd hit anything, or was out in the field, etc. [wait for it] There were 2 puncture marks, one torn, in the sidewall of my new tire. So.... I guess Maggie is successful in her mission of killing All Things Tire. Got my living room painted. It is Beeeuuuuttiful. Even moreso without the crap stacked to the ceiling. Ceiling is Glidden 'Natural Wicker' and the walls are Duron/SW 'Tinderbox.' I just picked up the paint for the bookshelves. All this room needs is trim. and maybe some curtains. Well, maybe not. So I have 2 rooms done, -trim. This is very, very exciting! Leaves 7 rooms to go. Drywall, finishing, paint, trim. As a dear friend once said, "Baby Steps." Well, it's only 10 years this year from that stupid fire! Baby enough? Have a great, warm day. Eat those beans and rice if that's your thing, or just watch football. (Got my MI State U sweat shirt on, just for my sisters.) Take care!

Yep, Donna, reading over it, it kind of sounds like a Chevy Chase movie scene. At least no food disasters that day. Since you came clean (to us--not to your mom), I'll admit that we cut the cat-chewed portion off the blueberry cheesecake and ate the remainder! Oh, that reminds me of another animal-related holiday disaster. When I was younger and had more energy I baked cookies, for weeks before Christmas, and gave out packages to neighbors, mailman, teachers, etc. We live in an older home, with a barn, and among cultivated fields, so getting mice a couple of times each year is not unusual. But one year, in the weeks before Christmas, I was hearing noises that were too loud for mice. I told my husband that I thought we might have a rat. He said no way--we'd never had rats, and there was no place for one to enter the house. I've always kept perishables in vermin-proof containers, so I didn't worry about mice (or rats) getting into the food items, and at that time the rule was no food in bedrooms. I was very proud that year to have my baking done on schedule, and I put together stacks of cookies on Christmas themed plates, wrapped with plastic wrap and tied the bundles at the top with ribbon. I left all my cooky bundles on a drop-leaf table in the kitchen, for distribution the next day, and went to bed. I was almost asleep when I heard the noise start in the bedroom. I had some plastic bags with gifts for the kids hidden, but I could hear something making noise in the bags. I woke up my husband and made him listen--he finally admitted that it sounded like something bigger than a mouse, and said he'd set a live trap the next day. I was almost asleep again, when I felt something jump on my leg and run up to my hip! I was on my side, under the quilt, and when I reacted, it jumped off. So I had proof! I was so exhausted by that time, and I figured I'd scared the rat more than he'd scared me, so I was hopeful that he'd vacated the premises. Until the next morning when I went in the kitchen to find that all of my cooky bundles had been sampled, and at least one was completely hollowed out. No cookies left in the package at all! I'd left my large metal storage cans sitting next to the table, and the rat had used them as a ladder to get on the table top. I was so aggravated, although I found it kind of funny to think of the rat hitting the jackpot like Templeton in Charlotte's Web. I cleaned up the mess, salvaged what I could, and my husband set the trap. That night we caught a HUGE rat in the pantry, which used to be a laundry room. It was coming up from the crawl space, through holes in the floor around the water pipes. The holes had never been sealed, and we'd never noticed. I sealed them, and haven't seen a rat inside since. I was all for drowning the $#%& rat in the pond, but my daughter insisted that it be taken to a far away wooded area and released. It was very lucky that I was still feeling the Peace on Earth vibe.

Funny, I was just marveling over how much CHEESE is now available in even the most ordinary chain grocery store. I can't remember when I last bought sliced cheese or cottage cheese -- both bland staples during DS's growing up years. DH and I always have a two-pound block of Cabot sharp cheddar from Costco in the fridge -- quartered to limit exposure. There's a 5 oz cup of shredded Asagio/Romano; we don't use enough to buy wedges to shred at home. Chinapatpekin -- Would you please tell me about Delice de Jura? I have ancestors from that region of France (originally from Bern).

I enjoyed getting it, but really didn't like many of the recipes I tried. It's not worth it for me to buy it.

No, won't pay for it.

I don't cook much either, and so many of the recipes there, or any where, call for many ingredients that I don't ordinarily use and wouldn't want to buy for a special recipe that I may not make often.

I'm really a basic salt and pepper cook!

I haven't received a bill, but I'm not sure whether I received the spring issue yet or not. No, I wouldn't pay for a magazine with exclusive Kraft advertising and products in their recipes. I do enjoy the magazine though.

My bill came with my magazine...the magazine had plastic around it and the bill was inside the plastic. It just arrived today...

Maybe they send them out alphabetically....mine starts with "C"

I think I got one issue. Looked it over but nothing special. I didn't try any of the recipes. I won't pay for it. There are so many good and free recipes available on KT and other forums.

I've gotten the Kraft magazine for awhile now, I haven't gotten the new one yet, nor a bill. But I won't pay it, money is tight and I clipped a few recipes from the magazine, but certainly not all of them.

I got mine today, no plastic, no bill. I won't pay for it either although I have enjoyed looking at it. I don't cook much so haven't really made good use of it.

guess they thought we just could not live without it...I've got some bad news for them....right? It's not a priority, with the net & KT why would I pay for it?

I used to get that magazine and loved it. But they haven't sent it to me for a long time. I could never find a spot to re-subscribe on the Kraft website either.

I like it, but I think you can find all the recipes on their site now.

I posted somewhere that I wouldn't pay for it but I got the latest copy and the bill and it is $11.98 for two years....that's like $5.99 per year so I am going to subscribe to it. I like receiving it and I have made many of the recipes.

I loved getting that....I'll pay, it's not that much really. I haven't gotten mine yet, can't wait for it. They have really good recipes in it.

I'm amazed that only one other person here got a bill with theirs...I'd like to know why.

Here is what my bill looks like and it is reg. 1 year $11.98 on my bill.

It's been coming with Aunt Phyllis' name on it.

She's been dead for over 5 years.

Haven't got the Spring issue yet.

Won't be paying, partly because it calls for too many Kraft products, many of which I don't have on hand.

I got mine today along with the bill. I just laughed. It's one big advertisement for Kraft products and they're going to CHARGE you? Really?

I got mine yesterday without a bill...however I have noticed that they keep repeating the same recipes each season, so I won't pay for that, regardless!

I cut this from Moderator Deanne over at the Kraft food discussion. "Due to the timing of our lists you may receive an additional complimentary issue. You should be receiving an invoice, and won't have to pay for your extra issues."

I guess those of you who received the bill are on the first lists.

Kraft's "What's Cooking", addressed to Aunt Phyllis, who died 5 years ago, arrived on Tuesday.

No sleeve - no bill.

It must be my sparkling personality that did it ... or, maybe, Aunt Phyllis'?

We don't pay for the commercials on TV - but we do at the movie theatre! Hockey rink, too.
