I have one and have for about 15 to 20 years....because someone thought I needed one and gave me one.....and after a few years it died....and I replaced it....and it dies....and...
Well you know.
Yeah....it melts cheese nicely....not too good at reheating pizza...I'd rather eat it cold or reheat in the microwave.
I toast in it....period! And this blasted thing sits on my counter....for toasting a bagel or slice of bread!
Ever make cheese toast in the microwave? Works fine....toast the bread, spread with butter, slap on the cheese and microwave for about 8 seconds!
Et voila! Cheesey toast!
By toaster oven is a Black and Decker $24 model...on special at Kohl's. It works fine....during the past few years I have had B and D, Toastmaster and Cuisinart....and the B and D wins hands down. The expensive Cuisinart was such a pain I gave it away before it carpped out!
When this one dies I will buy a toaster! Just an ordinary toaster!!!

I have this one and really, really like it. I use it for pretty much everything except "big" baking as in cookies, cakes etc. As a single person I wouldn't want to be without it. This one has very simple controls and doesn't take much counter space, which was a boon for me.

I tend to think that toaster ovens work better as ovens than actual toasters, this one does a respectable job at both, though it's probably slower than a conventional toaster for toast.

If you indeed are interested in this one, its on sale at Tuesday Morning for $80, I think. I agree with Linda that its a pain - I don't know her reasons, but I wanted one for BAKING and all the darn digital units have 25 degree swings. Nothing inbetween. They may be good toasters, but I wanted a small countertop 'oven' and the Cuisinart runs either too hot or too cold. Basically these things are poorly insulated boxes with a couple of heating elements. Not good for roasting coffee beans, grin.

When this one bites the dust or I pawn it off on a needy family member, I'm looking for one that has thick walls, or lots of air between the thin sheets of stainless steel, a dial I can fine tune, convection of course, and just feels solid. Target carries a lot of them so I'll start there. I know others have true countertop ovens but those are big bucks and I'm cheap too.

I have a Cuisinart Toaster Broiler Convection Oven, and I love it. Since I'm usually just cooking for me, it's perfect and I've used all the options. It comes in handy when the kids are over, too. They use it for pizza and other snacks.

There's a bunch of them on Amazon. Read the customer reviews, you'll get a lot of good information to help you pick the right one. You can probably find one locally for about the same price.

I did not get a new toaster oven when ours died AGAIN! I just hated having to clean it and after a while I could not get the window clean at all.

We did buy a cheapie TO for our temporary kitchen during our construction and it worked out very well. But now the kitchen is done, the TO is in the garage waiting for my next rummage sale.

I've heard wonderful things about the Cuisinart Toaster Oven though and if I was in the market that would be one I would buy.

I have to say I used to love my DeLonghi toaster oven, but not as much as my toaster/convection oven! It is a EuroPro and it was pricey, $50 at Target, but it bakes cookies, roasts stuff, meatloaf, cakes...reheats just fine, which is good 'cause I don't like microwaves.
I've only had it a year and so I cannot say how much I will be singing its praises if/when it dies, but I love it today.
My friends love their black and decker and it is almost as big as our toaster oven. They roast and bake everything in it and I think it was cheaper.

I have had so many, pricey to cheap, they die young! The one we bought last week a Farberware. Second time I used it, the door came off in my hand, and this teeny tiny metal piece rolled out. It is going back to Linensnthings. I use it for toast, warm breads and bake potatoes. That's it.

I hate to even say this as I'll probably put a curse on it, but my original DeLongi has been sitting on my counter for over 10 years. No, I don't make toast in it, I didn't like how that worked, but I often use it instead of the large ovens and it works great. I bought it when Costco opened near our house and that has to be close to 15 years ago...shhh, I don't want the gremlins to get it now!

I have the standard Black and Decker Toast R Oven in stainless. It's fine except for one thing -- it doesn't "ding" when the toast is done. Very annoying.

I have had many in my life and I use them a lot. They last a few years and then give up the ghost.

Ellen, I think your's belongs in the Book of Records.

I've had no less than 3 go up in flames. Needless to say mine [and it is a staple in our house] is unplugged when ever not in use.

I've have Osters, deLonghis and every other iteration. My suggestion: pick the one that really suits your needs and unplug it whenever not in active use.

Bean, I had one like this one when I first got married and loved it! It went up in flames after a lot of use!

Nope, Ellen, I've had my DeLonghi toaster oven longer! My MIL had it for years and then, when she moved, gave it to us when my son was 2 years old (he's 25 now). It saw a lot of pizza slices and frozen waffles in its day; now, it's mainly used for toast, bagels, and grilled cheese. It's not too pretty any more, so I've got it on a table in the pantry. As a bonus feature, its top is a great temporary shelf when I'm putting away groceries!

OMG, Carol, we had that same one until about a year ago. It had to be at least 20 years old, and it never DID actually die; it got knocked off a shelf onto a concrete floor and the door broke. LOL! The only complaint I had about it is that it didn't hold the large slices of sourdough.

Jessy and Scott, Good tips, thanks. Looks like I need to start at Target and see if there is a Tuesday Morning nearby as well. This is an item I want to see/touch in person since controls are getting harder and harder for me to see these days.

Jessy, MIL has a true countertop convection in the garage that needs fixing. It is HUGE. And she says that whatever repair it needs is pretty minor. When/if DH ever makes it out here and I'm cookingfor more than just me, I might get it fixed. And I WISH I could roast coffee in it. I've found one place in Reno that has really good coffee, but it's a royal PIA to get there and they don't ship. (It's IN a casino.) I'm drinking a LOT of tea these days because I will not drink crap coffee and you can bet Hades will freeze solid before I set foot in a Star*ucks. :)

Linda - I like the cripsy bits of toasted things, and microwaved bread just doesn't do it for me. It's either get a toaster or a toaster oven, and the TO will let me butter something THEN toast it.

And the thing about unplugging appliances when not in use? Always! I don't keep any small appliances that has a heating element in it plugged in all the time. Heard too many stories from firemen about lousy wiring in those bad boys.

A little flame, Linda. Pop Tart or something, on don't remember what, all I know is I heard something, looked back and there it was fire inside. No damage, just to the toaster. It could have been something dumb I did, but I don't think so, might have been the wiring.

I resisted for many years as I, too, am one who likes clear counter tops. What I did first was to go to the Goodwill store and bought one to see if I could live with the TO concept. I paid $10 for the tester toaster. But, with coaching from Jessy and AnnT, I purchased one a year ago and love it (I have the one Jessy pictured)!! I use it so much that my electric bill has actually gone down...well, that's what I tell Raymond.

I cook anything that will fit in it. My only issue is cleaning it as it is challenging.

We have a Cuisinart toaster oven broiler (not convection). DH insists we have to have one, and after going through numerous other brands he really likes the Cuisinart. I have to say it actually toasts bread really well. We've had ours for almost 2 years.
