Okay, I may have been way off with my thinking that this was a sharp-shinned hawk. I have had adults in my yard before and I assumed that this was a juvenile. However, this could be a common nighthawk which we have around here. I live in Saskatchewan, Canada and the whip-poor-will is not common in my area. My book says they are more common in southwestern Sask. and I am east central Sask. Can anyone identify this bird for sue?

My setup is really new, but I think the others might be right. I chose NOT to get the machine with heating because my instantaneous water heater has a remote as an option. That would allow me to bump up the water heater temperature temporarily (and thus more safely, to my mind). It costs about the same as the difference in prices between the heat/no heat washers, so I figured I could add that and have that bump-up ability for more than just the washer... *However*, the washer works quite differently from a top loader. (I knew that! That's why I chose a FL. But I didn't know about *this* difference.) When you start a load, it adds a bit of water and tosses a little and adds a little water and repeats until it decides there's enough water. It's not like a TL at all where the water simply runs until it reaches the "right" level. It seems to be based on weight. Mine's an LG (wm2140c, I think), but I'm guessing other new machines are similar.

update - did all the checks from Bosch instructions and checked filters on all fixtures in the house. The two fixtures that had most dirty filter were kitchen sink and guest bath sink. The inlet water filter in the heater was a MESS - lots of clay dirt, tiny pieces of grass, and its physical condition is not good so it has to be replaced. We took it out and continue to use the heater as normal until we get replacement. It costs $7, and $7 shipping, so I am going to buy two - for the same cost of shipment - to make it worth the cost. Now that we have big filter in main line , this little one should not have too much work to do. I also changed a rubber washer in our showerhead to open water flow. I know these reducers are designed for city people to reduce their water bill, and we had it in the city, but now we dont need it. All this really opened up water flow and reduced problem but not completely. Right now temp setting is at 104, but the outlet hot water pipe temp reads at 115F. We should still do the multimeter check of the water temp sensors. But I was able to enjoy shower for the first time in longest time. Definately a noticeable improvement so thank you all! also, our PRV does not have a tap to check the pressure, so we will install a gauge in the line, and while we are at it - we will re-arrange the order of filter and PRV.

I just posted a longer post in another thread wherein I stated that I think the gas savings may be way overstated. I keep my 16+ year old 40 gallon water heater on year round. My estimate is that it only takes about 3 to 4 therms per month to keep my water heated 24/7. My use is very minimal.......daily showers.....and a couple dishwasher loads per week....and I keep my temp at that which allows 100% hot water showers. Anyway, I average only 7 therms per month yearly average. And that includes the hot water I use, plus keeping it heated all the time. 7 Therms here costs about $7. So I'd estimate that only about half of that is to keep the tank heated when not in use. Certainly it can't be more than $5......allowing just $2 for 30 showers and about 8 dishwasher loads.
