Those are really nice. I read your EXIF on the first one, shot with the Rebel XT, f20, 1/160, ISO 100, 300mm. That is some reach. I can't guess which lens you used, maybe the 100-400L but think one of the other ones. How did you compress your photo so you could post it so large? Mine is much smaller and kept getting rejected until I got it under 60k which meant that I had to make it even smaller in CS2 because it adds in extra bytes even though it shows the approximate size using save as. Does the text get added into the count?

I'm not going to be happy posting tiny photos, but if I post them at around 800x600 like I prefer (can't imagine posting one that large and keep it under 60kb), I fear I will lose quality by compressing them too much, assuming I can compress them that much. Plus both of ours has the EXIF included in the photo, but you must have used some other software because if it was processed with CS2, it usually shows in the EXIF, for me at least.

I have used the 70 - 300mm IS lens and have not altered the picture at all, I'm usually down sizing to about 70 to 250 KB and using photobucket album to up load it.
It looks like yours was cropped, [very small] so there is not much you can do anymore to post it larger.
Perhaps you could have done a close up shot?

I will try to repost the one I already had shared with my family which is 800X600 and embed it. That's what it appears you did. I have my own domain, it was already out there, but being new, I thought you could only upload photos. So I had to scrunch it down which I hate to do to an alread-processed photo but didn't want to reconvert from RAW. Haven't worked out a good workflow yet.

I'm not real conversant in all the various lenses yet, but I don't have anything longer than 135. I got lucky with that bird. My garden and home repairs have quashed my dreams for a 100-400 or the Sigma 50-500 this year. One has to make choices and prioritize.

I got down on the ground and was practically in that bird's face. If I go too close with the 28-135, it won't lock focus, I wanted to fill the frame, still didn't want to spook the bird into flying away if it was able to.

Then would the bird have waited for me to swap lenses if I had a longer one?

70-300 is not a good lens (for me now) to leave on the camera for general purpose but great to have that reach when you have time to change lenses.
