Those are really nice. I read your EXIF on the first one, shot with the Rebel XT, f20, 1/160, ISO 100, 300mm. That is some reach. I can't guess which lens you used, maybe the 100-400L but think one of the other ones. How did you compress your photo so you could post it so large? Mine is much smaller and kept getting rejected until I got it under 60k which meant that I had to make it even smaller in CS2 because it adds in extra bytes even though it shows the approximate size using save as. Does the text get added into the count?

I'm not going to be happy posting tiny photos, but if I post them at around 800x600 like I prefer (can't imagine posting one that large and keep it under 60kb), I fear I will lose quality by compressing them too much, assuming I can compress them that much. Plus both of ours has the EXIF included in the photo, but you must have used some other software because if it was processed with CS2, it usually shows in the EXIF, for me at least.

All three shots are beautiful!

Thank you aliska!
I have used the 70 - 300mm IS lens and have not altered the picture at all, I'm usually down sizing to about 70 to 250 KB and using photobucket album to up load it.
It looks like yours was cropped, [very small] so there is not much you can do anymore to post it larger.
Perhaps you could have done a close up shot?

We will see about lost revenue soon. I went back yesterday evening to get my sunglasses and noticed the opposite wall has separated an inch and the hardwood in one bedroom has buckled. This will be interesting. I suspect overloading - there were no defects noted in the attic or structure, ever. Not by any inspector or contractor. The only comment was that the roof was getting old and I might want to think about replacement at some point. I say boring a bit tongue in cheek in that I am known to talk about design and decorating incessantly. Not as bad as the rehab addict lady... Hopefully a more subtle Mike Holmes. An engineer came by yesterday afternoon. Not sure whose insurance called them (not mine). The first thing they did was get in a lift and take pictures of supplies and whatnot. Google says this may not be unheard of, BC has a handy guide for how to load up supplies in a roof that I guess they should have read first. I know a structural engineer and we are visiting today too. Losing the plaster and lathe on the wall facing the school bothers me some since it makes things quieter on the inside. Another thing concerns me a bit is flood insurance requirements. BFE here is 13 feet and the living space is at 12.6. It has never flooded. If you do more than 50% of the value of the place in repair in a year you have to bring it up (physically raise it). If this is defined as market value of the place I doubt we will hit that since values more than rebounded. However if it's defined as value of the improvements per the county's housing crash values this could be trouble. Likewise for bringing things to code. Insurance is supposed to put it back the way it was, but rules have changed over the last century and I am not sure I'd that comes out of my pocket. I take this the same way Peter did in Office Space when the building burned down. Just stand back and watch... For now I will finish our place. I assume they will fix by removing the roof completely, take out the ceiling, remove the entire second story wall facing the school, remove a section of the opposite wall and then deal with whatever broke and buckled the floor. If required to raise ithe house the entire drain system must be redone, the place leveled and the enclosed rear porch rebuilt. @doug the floor looks awesome! Is it walnut? @texas - that may be me... I will check it out once I am not browsing by phone. Marine spar varnish is great stuff, it's the right choice. Coffee time...

Is it true that orange-ish roses are less favored? If yes, why?

I think she means the original E. Boerner Aloha that was used extensively by David Austin in his early breeding efforts. This rose is classified as a large flowered climber and (for me) would never make a natural looking bush shrub. It can naturally grow bolt upright so I'm finding it's best grown as a short climber training its canes while young and pliable. Currently its wrapping itself around a make-shift tuteur, but since planting in the ground last year, is reaching onward and upward. I'll need to make a new much taller obelisk. While I feel intuitively that Ingrid is a delicate flower with hands to match, (I also recall them being very pretty and well-kept from a past picture), Aloha is a huge powderpuff of a rose and almost always in bloom. I'm adding a second this summer. Aloha Hawaii is on my 'someday soon' list. FreedomGardens also grows it so it should be hardy in your zone, flowers, but I'm not sure how much it will climb. :-)) P.S. A couple of the entries on HMF are duplicates using alternate names and the breeders' codes.

Not being in the totality path here in Milwaukee, I didn’t think anything would happen. However, that morning I hit on a link showing all areas that be affected and MKE was in the 90% area. I had a two o’clock massage appointment, right at the peak time. So I called my massage therapist and asked if we could move my appointment time a bit so I could view the eclipse. That was fine with her. So my DH quickly made a box for me. I went to my appointment, arriving 15 minutes early so we could watch together. When she saw my box she said, “oh maybe you’d like to use my glasses.” OMG!! The eclipse blew me away! To see a completely dark sky through the glasses with a bright Amber colored sun and the black encroaching moon so perfectly clear, was just amazing to me. A neighbor of mine who’s quite the world traveler plans to go to the 2027 eclipse in Egypt. I just may join her. There is one coming through MKE being in the full totality, but that’s in…..wait for it…..2099! I will be long gone! Utog, your photos of the shadows are really cool! Ann, your garden is getting greener and greener! I have a few pips but it’s too early here with our last frost date being May 11-20. I remember when it was mid April. I put some dirt on those to protect them. Hopefully we won’t get any late frost. 🤞🏽 debra

"Perhaps you could have done a close up shot?"

I will try to repost the one I already had shared with my family which is 800X600 and embed it. That's what it appears you did. I have my own domain, it was already out there, but being new, I thought you could only upload photos. So I had to scrunch it down which I hate to do to an alread-processed photo but didn't want to reconvert from RAW. Haven't worked out a good workflow yet.

I'm not real conversant in all the various lenses yet, but I don't have anything longer than 135. I got lucky with that bird. My garden and home repairs have quashed my dreams for a 100-400 or the Sigma 50-500 this year. One has to make choices and prioritize.

I got down on the ground and was practically in that bird's face. If I go too close with the 28-135, it won't lock focus, I wanted to fill the frame, still didn't want to spook the bird into flying away if it was able to.

Then would the bird have waited for me to swap lenses if I had a longer one?

70-300 is not a good lens (for me now) to leave on the camera for general purpose but great to have that reach when you have time to change lenses.
