Max has recently taken to sleeping on the ironing board.

Simba prefers to sit in my lap while I watch TV; if he wants the whole sofa to himself (he's a big boy), he'll kick me lightly or push his paws under my butt - then I've to sit elsewhere. I don't like it when he does that to visitors, but it seems most of the time they find it cute. A friend visiting our place for the first time found himself sitting on the floor bcoz of this (he wanted to be right in front of the TV) and I was so embarrassed.

Jasper is an extremely handsome boy! Is he very vocal? I dunno maybe it's just my experience with tabbies (right now, Simba); I've found them very, very vocal.

Increasing pet allergies means I've had to put the kibash on cats sleeping on pillows -- but I've always had cats sleeping at the foot of the bed -- you're right; it's the best!

Frankie has a basket and cat bed in the bedroom that he uses when I'm thrashing around. Sometimes he naps in the living room, or in the laundry basket. Or in the study, next to the grow lights for the citrus trees. But since I spend most of my time in the dining room, he has a special spot under a nearby chair where he naps most of the time when I'm home.

Since Chloe is Cinderella-cat in our house, she has to sleep where Frankie isn't. However she has staked out the box in the cat tree as her special spot:

What a great picture of Jasper. Since I have six cats there is a sleeping cat somewhere at every moment. Right now Sam is sleeping in a box by the wood stove, Rubie is in her cat bed, RocKat is on the couch(the place I sit so when I get off of the computer he gets first dibs on my lap), Kreem is on the upside down box I have on my printer(to keep the cats from sleeping on the printer), Oreo is sleeping on Skeeter's(her dog) belly. I don't see Sheena right now. When I move and sit on the couch everything will change. My SO is allergic to everything so the cats can't sleep on the bed whan he is in it but the rest of the time.... I sleep on the couch some nights because all the cats are sleeping with me, I may be nuts but I like it so much, I don't go to bed.

We have cats and dogs everywhere. lol The cats have baskets on the dining room table where they can see outside. Banshee the oldest (18)is usually in the back bedroom with the door closed and will knock to come out and do her stuff and eat. Mo and Chester will come into the bed at night and lay on top of myself or the 3 dogs that are there. When we have the ladder set up for the kitchen redo Chester is always on the top step to have a nap.

My ham... I mean ahem prince/cat Jasper says thanks for the compliments. Actually, Pranjal, my Jasper isn't vocal at all. Wonderful for me, because I am annoyed by "noise". He coos and meows now and then which is good, but if he was scwaling all through the night I don't know what I would do!

My cats sleep on the landing of the stairs, the reclining chair (all four actually love that chair, let the fun begine when the dogs jump up and try to get the cats to move!) or they sleep behind our heads on the couch, and we get nice little kitty hairstyles from them. At night, since I'm allergic and they can't go in the bedroom, the sleep outside our door. We tried letting them sleep with us a few times, but not only did it bother my allergies, but they were climbing all over EVERYTHING. Kept us up til we threw them out everytime.

Our bedroom (bed in particular) is the nap/sleep spot of choice for all 6 animals. All but 1 can get up onto the bed without assistance, and the one that can't gets a treat on the weekends when dad gives her a boost!

Ah yes, the look of disgust in the eyes of a non-pet person. Nothing quite like it.

I keep a sheet over my ridiculously expensive quilt and change it every morning. I guess I really don't understand the point of having pet(s) if you can't bend yourself up like a pretzel when you sleep at night. Yes that's right, we sleep around the pets :~O.

I think that cats sleep wherever they want :) One of my parents' cats slept on the floor vents--mmm...comfy metal slats--until my parents put up plastic deflectors.

As for pets sharing a bed with humans: my friend loved sleeping with his cats until he rolled on top of one and it bit him in a very sensitive place.

Vacuumfreak...what planet is that ol' lady from work from? HAHA! Although I'll never allow another cat to be in my bed again...I'm not so out of touch with reality that I don't know that people love their cats and let them sleep in their beds. It's certain not uncommon for pete's sake! She needs to get out more is all I can say!

My precious dog(Bubba) that passed away a couple years ago had a pallet next to the bed where he slept each night. Woke me up every morning as the sun came up to go for a walk.

For cat naps, my two cats seem to switch locations from time to time. Maybe this is an instinctive way of avoiding getting caught by a predator? But at night, they sleep in the bed with me. I'd be awfully lonesome if they didn't! The male on my right, and the female on my left. In warmer weather, the male cat likes to sleep right on top of my legs or stomach--or my hip, if I'm on my side. I suspect it is a dominance thing because he acts horrified if I try to plunk him down on top of DH. He knows he is the boss of the female cat, who joined our household after he did, but that DH is HIS boss!

It is so comforting to sleep with my cats around me that I couldn't imagine banning them from the bed.

If I'm in bed he's always sleeping towards the bottom of the bed or upon occasion he'll climb on my chest and get cuddles. When the dog is outside he'll go sleep in the dog bed. Really ticks the dog off when he comes in and sees that. If I'm up doing things he'll lay in the bay window where he has a good view of my comings and goings. And when I sit in a chair he's always laying along the back of the chair or the arm. It's funny how they always want to keep tabs on their humans. He doesn't like to cuddle often, but heaven forbid if he can't be close to his person in some way all the time.

Well Simba coos all the time but he also lets out big yowls frequently. Last night he was digging furiously in my duvet where my leg was, trying to get me to play with him I suppose. Good thing I wasn't very sleepy, else I'd have thrown him out of the bedroom, which would start another bout of yowling - in a very hurt tone (he hates closed doors). Funny thing is, he doesn't do these things to my husband. He doesn't like to sleep in my hubby's lap either.

Krustytopp - lol maybe that's what happened with my DH and the cats; they run away from him when he stirs even a little in bed.

Munkos - Kitty hairstyles - how cute! Our cats style DH's hair but not mine (long hair); I think they've realised that Mom doesn't like poo-necklace gifts the next day lol

Labmomma - I can see my pics; no idea about the boxes with red crosses; try right-clicking and selecting 'Show picture', maybe that would work. If it doesn't, let me know, and I'll post a couple pics again (I've recently figured out how to do that and I'm afraid I'm gonna post pics at every opportunity :-D )

Non-pet people sure don't know what they're missing !

Pranjal- that is the one time my Jasper will scwal/yowl. If I shut him out of the bedroom. If he's very playful and I'm just as tired I will close him out. He cries for a while, but I just pop in the ear plugs and mutter, "If you'd be quiet I'd let you back in." Like he even cares or can understand! It makes me feel better anyway! We just had a great cuddle/kissy session right on the pillow, what a way to start the day! I was going to mention that I also cannot see you pictures. I tried from my home computer, work computer, and PDA. Red x's here too, and no "show picture" link popping up! You've got me wanting to see Simba now!

Ooohh (((Jasper))), nothing better to start the day - purrs and kisses on the nose! I usually find Simba asleep on my shoulder in the mornings, with the tip of his tail sopping wet - he sucks on it before he goes zzzzzz.

Umm - I'm not a very compu-savvy person, but DH says our Yahoo photos folder is not a shared one maybe that's why nobody could see the pics. (**Thinking** But I could see the snaps here?)

What I find amusing about cats is that they don't seem content with simply sleeping on the same bed -- they have to be lying against you or on you, with as much contact as possible. When I had the long haired cat, before air conditioning, that could get rather unpleasant in the summer!

My father goes to sleep much earlier than my mother, and their cat likes to snuggle up to my dad. When my mother gets into bed there's not much room left, so Coalie stretches out full length so he can still slip between them -- and have humans all around!

My previous cat usually slept at the foot of the bed, but at one point he began slipping up to the head of the bed while I slept. I would wake face-to-face, which could be a little disconcerting. Then he began patting my face with his paw while I slept. I would wake up because he was tapping my mouth or my chin. Very annoying! I didn't discover till later that I had developed mild sleep apnea. In retrospect, I think he was reacting to the fact that I would temporarily stop breathing. Nothing ruins a cat's day like having your human croak in their sleep!

I read something a while ago, that said your cats attitude towards where he stands in the house vs you, can be seen in where he sleeps when you're sleeping.

Foot of the bed means he feels inferior to you, status wise
Middle of the bed beside you, means he feels equal
And by/above your head means he feels superior to you!

Pran- I get kitty-poo necklaces all the time. My hairs pretty long. My calico seems to be praticularly bothered when I put my hair in a pony tail. She pulls and pulls and burries her head into my hair until she's managed to make a huge mess of it, and get my pony tail out.

Alison, all our kitties, when young, tried to gouge out my eyes every single morning.

Aw Munkos ... is that true? Well that would mean Simba thinks he's superior to me - bah!! I'll show him who's who !! Max - equal, that's OK, he's the coolest.

Nikita sleeps near my feet - inferior hmm - she must, after all I've done to get her to behave. She came to us as a feral stray kitten, and was very aggressive; she calmed down in 6 months but would attack me all the time (she did have toys to play with, but she would seek me out and attack, biting, scratching, very unfriendly with DH too - he wouldn't touch her lol) no reprimand worked. Then I pushed her onto her back and actually grabbed her throat with my teeth (gently, of course) and growled (you'll be forgiven for thinking I'm crazy) - like Mum cat would do normally to make her behave. We did this maybe 10-12 times on separate occasions. It worked, Niku learnt her place. Anybody else have to go thru this?

Laps, dining room chairs, living room chairs, sofas, our bed, middle of the hallway, deep inside the closet . . . pretty much anywhere she finds herself when she's tired.

Similar story, pranjal: My former cat did not care for my boyfriend, and would occassionally bite him for no apparent reason. I went out of town one weekend and the boyfriend took care of my cat. When I got back, I asked if things had been okay, and the boyfriend told me that everything was fine -- now. He said the cat had bit him -- so he bit the cat back! I was appalled but I have to say, there was mutual respect between them from then on!

Lol Alison ... The cat bit him and he bit right back!! Now I know how crazy it sounds .. well I should try this with Niku bcoz when I get into bed, she tries to bite my feet and no, I've never kicked her lol.

But I won't tell my husband that I bit her bcoz she bit me ... as it is he makes a funny face when I growl at Simba. Back then, when I was trying to put Niku in her place by biting her throat, DH and I were married for about six months, he had never had pets before and had zero knowledge about cat behavior; I can only imagine how terrified he must be when he saw his wife biting the cat.

They nap any where they please except the expensive cat condos I bought with each having three or four places ..Bad Mommy that I am , they do not sleep with me. With seven cats and two of them 18 pounds, I wouldn't get any sleep. On the ocassion that I take a nap during the day, not often, in the back bedroom, I usually have company. Only the mother/ daughter in this house consistently sleep with each other. Most are loners but those two stick together.

Mine usually sleep in a big pile up. At night the big pile up is next to and on me. The oldest sleeps on my pillow and pokes me in the eye if he doesnt have enough room!
