My dog enjoys the flavored Nyla bones. When I first gave them to him I soaked them briefly in hot water..........don't know if it brings out the flavor but he accepted them immediately.

I also give him large, raw knuckle bones and remove them once he stops chewing on them. I sometimes boil them just long enough to cook the meat on the outside. If he's a strong chewer, I'd give him the knuckle bones when you're around to watch him.
One of my previous dogs loved to bury them somewhere in the house........another reason to watch them!

I just discovered the Cuz. My dogs love it! It's the only toy, besides the Kong, that they haven't destroyed. I have to put it away at night so my dog doesn't wake me up with it, but first thing every morning he runs down to the kitchen sink to wait for me to retrieve it.

Didn´t your vet recommend a special diet for your dog´s urinary crystal problem ?

I wouldn't suggest any treat without consulting your vet first. I have a dog with similar problems and she is on a diet to help control the crystals from forming. The only things she is allowed per vet is raw carrots and cheerios. Those are only for the occasional treat. There are several rx foods for urniary problems and if you can get it in canned form you can slice it and bake it like a cookie.
Ask your vet what they suggest.

As much your little guy misses his rawhides i'm sure he's happy to swap them for no bladder or urinary issues.

I bought one of the Cuz toys at Christmas. Within a day, one leg was gone and the other was well on its way. My Doodle, Amos can tear up anything - the only toys he hasn't detroyed are the first Kongs that I bought but my DIL gave us the Kong cylinder one that is red and is supposed to help with their teeth - well within ten minutes he had gnawed off bits of it. Guess we are down to Racketballs and the original Kongs! Andi, his sissy doea love the Nyla bones and Amos has started chewing on them since I have stopped the rawhide. They loved them but they were getting their leg hair all knotted and around their mouths so yucky. What worries me is that the Nylabones are made of nylon and that just doesn't seem good for them either.

Thanks for all the replies. Our dog was rescued at 3 or 4 months of age from an abusive situation. His first trip to the vet showed he had some crystals. He has been on specail food since then to contol them and to keep from getting more. However, he still got more until he was passing a lot of blood and had to have surgery. We had been giving him raw carrots and he loved them but as he gains weight very easily that was taken away from him too. Then we tried raw turnip. He loved that but once again the vet did research and found that, too, was not a good idea. He has been switched now to another food which is supposed to help raise his PH levels.

Our vet also does not believe in giving knuckle bones either. I think we may try the Kong. Someone told me to-day that they stuff them with dog food that has been soaked in water and then freeze them. That sounds as if it might be all right.
