Nursery part 2. Found a color, now it doesnt match my bedding!

I posted a bit ago about trying to find just the right color for our nursery. Since we are adopting, we don't know if the baby will be a boy or girl or when he/she will be coming home.

The room gets loads of natural light and is pretty small, so I was looking for just the right creamy beige that had a bit of yellow to it. I tried samples of 4 different yellows and everything turned intensely neon on there for some reason.

Fast forward and I finally found my paint; Fresh aire honey sand. I did not pick the paint because of the no VOCs but because I loved the color. That being said, I would definately not recommend this brand of paint; it felt thin and slippery and did not have very good coverage IMO. Anyway... moving on!

I love love love the color in the room. It does exactly what I hoped it would do. It is warm and not too vibrant, but still has some depth to it. It feels comfortable and cozy. Problem? Its not a perfect match for my beding!This color pulls more beige, almost pink or orange (not really, but not too yellow either) There is a bit of cream in the bedding, but it also has yellows at are cooler. I want to do a nature theme in there (birds, trees, etc). So I am torn. It took me weeks to find the perfect color. I love it, and don't want to change it. I feel the same about my bedding! I wonder if i can make them work together?

it is hard to see the color differences in the pictures. It is slight, but there. You can see it even more with the crib quilt that has more yellows in it. This is the set:

Looks very pink on my monitor. And I know you said you don't want to change it, but if it's not working, it's not working and I'd change it. Here's the thing, yellows and beige are two of the most difficult colors to get just right so don't feel completely let down. It's adorable bedding and I can understand you wanting to hold on to it. I'd take the bedding to the paint store and have them color match the creme in that. Go to a Benjamin Moore or a store you know will stick with you to get it just right.

Hmmm....I would wait a few days and then reevaluate. Is it possible to move the crib into the room, and put a few other things in the room, like temporary artwork or just other colors/textures? I wonder if maybe you are focusing too much on matching the bedding, and not focusing enough on the fact that you actually like the paint and the mood it creates. The crib bumper will only stay up for 8-9 months anway. And if the paint matches the bedding exactly, maybe it will look too matchy-matchy. On my monitor, it looks nice. Maybe it would help to look at it with a fresh eye in a few days.

Well, the eggs are back on my sungold leaves, and there are many, many more of them this time. I've plucked off several of the branches, and with them I think I managed to possibly capture one or two of the bugs, and have put them into a ziplock baggie with a moist paper towel, and will bring them to my local nursery. They thought I was insane for thinking they were psyllids - but also didn't seem to know much about psyllids. Your guess is as good as mine as to how THAT works. :P I've only found the eggs on the edges and undersides of the leaves. Nothing on branches or in the middles, and again, the eggs are so, SO tiny that they almost look like pollen. They are far smaller than aphids. So, I've looked through a bunch of threads here on Gardenweb, and read all the linked articles, most of which I've already read, looking for a way to control the pending infestation, but it seems as though there still isn't much information on how to get rid of these guys. I know I mentioned malathion previously, but have seen an account of Spinosad possibly being effective. Also, many of the posts here, and subsequently, many of the articles that were linked in the posts, are from several years ago, which means that maybe there's some new information available that I haven't uncovered yet, or that maybe someone's had more experience in dealing with these pests. So far all of my plants are looking healthy, but I've been inspecting things almost daily, and this is the first time I've seen the eggs crop up again since my initial post. I was pretty sure I'd destroyed all those eggs, which means that there probably weren't any nymphs to hatch and give my plant the telltale "psyllid yellows" yet, or else I would post some sad plant photos. Has anybody uncovered a solution that will kill off the psyllids without devastating the beneficial population? Are my Sungolds, and likely the other 6 plants sharing a bed, doomed?

Hi, folks! My opinion on a typical pack of seeds would be 20-25, and fewer for large, rare or expensive seeds. Many times tomato, pepper, and eggplant seeds are more like 12-15 seeds. Counting out poppy or foxglove seeds is a pain, but a tiny pinch is about 40-50, so I do that. Some people measure out 1/8 teaspoons or 1/4 teaspoons of tiny seeds. I don't have a 1/8t spoon, and 1/4t is a large proportion of my seeds. If you're agonizing over whether or not to send in just a few of a seed, you can always ask the recipient, or you can use the gardenweb list search. Search for people who also have that seed, and read the list for people in this swap. If a couple of us have it, you don't need to worry about dividing up your small supply. You find the Search Lists function by clicking at the bottom of the page on Member Pages, and then choose Search Members' Exchange Lists. That is also a way to figure out who to send to, by searching for people looking for a seed you have. However, sometimes someone will type "No datura, please" but the computer just sees that "datura" is in the wants area. So this search can get you started, but you should still personally check. :) GARLIC: I'd love to try some different hardnecks! Cloves or even bulbils. Cloves are big--should we plan to send somewhat roomy envelopes and extra postage money to pay for getting the cloves to us? I grow two hardneck types and can offer bulbils, unfortunately I don't know the names. On seems to be a porcelain, one a rocambole. (One has a ton of tiny bulbils, one has larger bulbils, so please correct me if you think I'm wrong). You plant the bulbils at the same time as big garlic, and then dig it up the next year when it yellows the right amount. Then you replant it in fall, unless you want to eat the baby garlic. In my reading, it seems pretty definite that if you leave garlic in the ground without digging and replanting, it just splits into smaller bulbs and is less and less what you intended when you planted it. Mat, yeah I have 2018 and 2019 to write up. I have all my notes. Just have to find time. I checked out Pepiniere casse noisette website. They do not list their rootstocks anywhere that I can find. What rootstocks are your pears, peaches, apricots on? Honestly, a lot of what they are selling, at least in apricots, peach, nectarines seem to me to be VERY marginal for their climate. In many case they mention useful for growing in pots but if that is the case how are they propagating for sale? I don't want to disparage them without information but my impression is they might be reselling . You absolutely need to be buying based upon root-stock. For apples I am not only buying on Bud118 as it has best cold hardiness and is vigorus for our short seasons - Bud9 is just too slow. Train and prune to keep the size you want. Pears on OHxF87 or 97 and prune/train. I have found PAW-PAWs to be marginal in 4b - still 3' tall after 5+ years. Blueberries don't like my soil so Haskasps and Currants are much better. You have better options than Indigo Gem, Aurora is good though. Pink Lemonade is like a zone 5/6 plant, I see little chance of it surviving. Both Whiffletree and vigneschezsoi are good options. Be aware that a 1-2 year old bare root grape vine will bear fruit 1-2 years faster than the same year rooted cuttings you will get from vigneschezsoi. If you are only buying a couple might want to spend a couple extra $$ to get fruit a whole year or 2 earlier. Somerset and Trolhaugen are good. Had a couple Brianna this year, not enough to really say. Get Bluebell as well. I suggest 10-15' between vines. Can go closer but I am of the hack back 90% every year and then let grow. Trollhaugen can put out 12-15' of growth in 1 year alone - plant closer and you have to keep on top of canopy thinning to avoid overgrowth. Apples and pears will benefit from bagging with ziplocs. Grapes I bag with Organza bags when starting to turn color. So far I am loosing 99% of stone fruit (plums) to plum curlico and the rest to birds/racoons (can't bag plums - they rot). All peaches die. Trying apricots but no fruit yet. Don't get too caught up on types of fruit. Buy something disease resistant on a hardy, vigorus rootstock then topwork as you get enough branch structure. You will then be able to test fruit to see what you like or not within 3 years of grafting. My crabapple is now up to 65+ different apples grafted to it.

It looks great on my monitor also -- Anything lighter would be a 'non-color', and anything yellower might fight with the carpet, which will outlast the crib set.

I'm in the 'move in the furniture and reevaluate' camp. Maybe a bit more furniture and a few fresh plants is all the room needs.

(And congratulations on the new addition!)

Thanks everyone. I think I will try to figure out a way to live with it. I love both the color and the bedding, so i don't want to change either. It is a really good point that the crib bedding gets outgrown pretty quickly anyway.

I hadn't even thought of plants! What a great idea, thank you. The rest of my home is overflowing with houseplants, so I can easily relocate one or two in here :)

Like I said, I probably have a while before our little one comes home, but I am having fun planning his/her room. I will need curtains, and plan to make my own. What do you think? Green? Does anyone have any favorite fabric websites?

I also need a mobile for the crib, probably something nature/bird/tree themed. Oh and a light switch cover. I am thinking about putting up some photographs of birds whimsical nature prints and framing them.

Any other ideas to tie the room together? I think I need to paint the ceiling also, since it seems to be a brown color. Should I do white?

I agree with the other posters, wait it out a bit! And if you're considering painting the ceiling, how about a very light shade of blue to mimick the sky and it would tie in with the bedding?

This may be totally offtopic, but then again it may be the answer to your problem:-) Crib bumpers (the kind that tie around the edge of the bed so that baby doesn't bonk him or herself on the crib posts) are considered unsafe and in all likelihood your Pediatrician would recommend against them. Most babies don't keep quilts or blankets on themselves all night becuase they wiggle around and can't pull up blankets around themselves and sometimes the blankets land on top of their heads or faces. Blanket sleepers are very popular choices for keeping little ones warm at night. . That reduces most useful baby bedding to sheets which are easy and inexpensive to change in and out. With all that said, if you really love the wall color I would keep it knowing that the baby bedding probably won't get used in practicality.
