You'll have to make a couple of decisions before you go shopping. One is size: do you want a camera which is truly pocketable -- and are you willing to give up a few features or some picture quality for that? Be careful that the camera is not so small that you can't see the menus and push the buttons easily. Another decision is about the software (for your PC) which comes with the camera. If you don't use a recent version of Windows, you may have to check if the included software works on your computer. Or you may not care about it at all. I do not use the software that came with my Canon; I plug the camera into my Macintosh and it works just fine. A few thoughts: - Megapixels is not the only guide to how good a camera is. How all of those pixels are processed within the camera is perhaps even more important. My experience is that the best pictures come from cameras made by camera companies. This is not a hard-and-fast rule, but my experience and the test reports I see bear out that cameras from companies like Canon, Nikon, Olympus, and Sony make better pictures than those from Casio, HP, or Samsung. - One exception to that rule that you might want to seek out is Panasonic's Lumix line. They have pretty good lenses and one feature that really can enhance your pictures: image stabilization. This electronically manipulates the image so that low-light or fast-action shots that blur on other cameras will look sharper. - Sony makes some decent cameras, but their customer support is notoriously -- um, unsupportive. And their cameras require Memory Sticks (Sony's own memory-card format), which means that you may end up buying MSs just for the camera -- an expense you should consider in adding up costs, unless you already have Memory Sticks from another use. For what it's worth, I have a Canon PowerShot. The idea was to dabble in digital until digital SLR cameras came down in price (they're almost there for me). Despite the fact that it is just 2 MP, the pictures are sharp and the colors are right. It's not as nice as film, of course, but it's surprisingly good. Even at 2 MP.

After careful consideraton, when I had to replace my first digital electronic scale, this is what I chose: (see the link) My reasons were that it has the "tare" function, is easy to keep clean, and also has the ability to change the weighing units from ounces to grams, so you can use all recipes without worrying about conversions. Also the button for this is accessible and you can change at any time, even when weighing- some other scales you can option ounces or grams but the switch is underneath which is hardly convenient. I have two small and two large reel to reel tapes, unlabeled. I think they are audio. I think I know what they are but not sure. Has anyone here had a good experience with transferring reel to reel tape to a digital format? A company that you have used that has done a good job?

I bought an Olympus Tough model camera, known for its waterproofing features and also that it takes decent micro shots for a small hand held camera. My only gripe is that now that I am shooting videos, it doesn't save them in a format that jibes with my editing software and I haven't been able to figure out how to convert the files to something capable of being edited. I can play them but not edit them. It was marvelous for photos though. It's a bit overpriced at this point I think though.
