Thank you all for your supportive and encouraging words. I have learned so much from all of you. Cameron, I had to laugh at the "no weeds" statement. My garden is positively rampant in places with weeds. I really am slack in that department. :( I have a fothergilla planted with some hostas on one path and when I walked by this morning, I noticed the weeds were almost as tall as the hosta. Oops. Can't be arsed with pulling the suckers this morning--quickly looked the other way. Nell, you bring that truck right on up here. Carolyn and I could meet you for lunch and a day out nursery hopping. :) Then we can all come back here and pull weeds. LOL! Lorna, I have found that the hard work of gardening is my stress reliever. When things get rough, I go play in the dirt. :) Manuela, thank you so much for that wonderful compliment. Our garden is a work in progress. There are as many eyesores as there are eyecandies. But that's what gardening is all about, right? :) You guys are terrific. Thanks.

cyn...don't feel inferior...if you have a shovel...just start digging...that's how i started...first the beds around the house kept creeping out...then the trees....then a bed here...and a bed there....then you "connect" the beds...before you know it...it just "happens"... woodside...i suppose it is "cottage style",,,as it has so much "unruly" stuff in it...lol...have been trying to "tame" it a bit...but the stuff keeps multiplying... yes i have 2 ligularia...1 burgundy leaf and 1 green leaf one... janice...yeppers...the 27 from foxfire and 19 others i bought this year are going into the "new" section...trying to get a spot ready for them now... jill...

The other problem with feeding them is they'll get so tamed that they start chasing people (especially kids) around as soon as they see them. Geese are terrible that way. One park in another city finally wised up about don't feed the dang geese after some complaints started coming in about geese attacking. People generally think a duck or goose bite isn't anything since they don't have normal teeth, but ask my sister what it's like to get "pinched" by a goose. They're strong, and it hurts. Why did the duck/goose cross the road? To get to the people who might feed them on the other side... until the cars hit them or worse, swerve to avoid them, get into accidents and injure someone. I really wish people would quit trying to tame wild animals. Whether it's tigers, squirrels or ducks. It's not a good thing IMO. However there is a good compromise. Give the ducks a big pan of water. They too like a drink of cool water on a hot day and Watching them flopping around in it is very entertaining and doesn't cause near the problems.
