What an attractive design! It will just get lovelier and lovelier every year as those hosta and perennials mature. I love the paths, too. Lucky birds, to have that view!

This is a very impressive design, obviously the product of a lot of thought and hard work. Congratulations. I really like your strategic planting of blue and white flowering plants (and just a touch of orange and yellow) to serve as accents to the hostas. Please post more pics again next year and let us see the progress.

the white and blue colors are a Campanula,,,don't know what kind,,,but the flowers are the same as the shorter blue and white clips...the orange are asiatic lilies...the yellows, whites, pinks, and reds follow closely...

the stepping stones,,,some were free,,,some were close-outs,,,others just on sale...none full price,,,that's for sure...added them over the years a little at a time,,

the garden started back in 1994 when i became a stay at home mom...every year adding a new section,,,the middle of the back yard getting its ground when we skimmed the topsoil for the driveway in 2000...the swingset was to the right of the bridge and went down in 2006...so that pretty much has completed where i can expand to on "my" lot...

we have just completed a deal to acquire more land behind the fence...will post that later...

What a wonderful perspective of your garden. Your pictures, and Phil's, from above, makes me almost want to climb up on the roof.

The stepping stones are great. It is possible to make stepping stones from cement. One bag makes about 5-7 stones.

lol...myrle...the pictures were taken from on top of the roof....hubby was cleaning the rain gutters,,,so i gave him the camera...

kent...i have the smallest lot in the neighborhood,,,i think...it is 65 by 175 with a 2 bedroom ranch style house on it...but i made use of just about every possible inch of it...

if i did it in "your" yard it "would" be work...but it's just my playground...

cyn...don't feel inferior...if you have a shovel...just start digging...that's how i started...first the beds around the house kept creeping out...then the trees....then a bed here...and a bed there....then you "connect" the beds...before you know it...it just "happens"...

woodside...i suppose it is "cottage style",,,as it has so much "unruly" stuff in it...lol...have been trying to "tame" it a bit...but the stuff keeps multiplying...
yes i have 2 ligularia...1 burgundy leaf and 1 green leaf one...

cyn427,don't worry about your garden being inferior. I feel the same about some other gardens here on the forum. That pic of my woodland garden is 3 full years in the making! In 2006,that area was nothing but a jungle of weeds,vines,and rocks. I had to clear all of that out before planting ths first plant. The rocks are still there,incorporated in the garden,as I never throw away rocks! The ferns ,plus a few I planted,were already there,along with native Trilliums,which I always leave wherever they happen to come up. I just build the garden around them. It's not that hard,but it takes time! Hope this will encourage you to hang in there! Phil

Maybe I will snap a few pics of the area in front of our house where I am about to make a new hosta bed between the island bed and the house-getting rid of as much grass as possible and basically just expanding the foundation and island beds until they meet at a path. Then, I will have before and after shots for all of you. May even take a few of the "in-progress" spots, so I can dazzle (???) you next year!

Woodside, go ahead and post those pics. Even fuzzy ones are fun to look at!
