update on jasdip's mom!!!!!

She asked me to post here. I'm just going to copy/paste the emails.

We're here at the hospital.

Mom had left the CCT last weekend and was on the 9th floor on the surgical floor.

We saw her Saturday and Sunday and she was doing great.

Today she started hemorraghing again. They took her to the CCT unit, and now she's in Radiology. They're trying to determine where the bleeding is originating from so they can stop it. They did a cat scan and her abscess/mass is surrounded by blood.

Her stent also has blood all around it.

Her small intestine, which should be "so" big around is much larger. The walls have been eaten away. They don't know if the bleeding is coming from the abscess, her arteries, the stent or what.

The dr said on Saturday that he's 75% certain she has cancer and it's eating/affecting her organs.

The top priority is finding and stopping the source of the bleeding. They have already put 4 units of blood in, her BP dropped and her Heart rate is elevated, but that's okay.

Her hemoglobin is low as well.

So here we are, praying that she comes out all right.

Little while later, I got this email! They sure need our thoughts and Prayers!!!

We just spoke with the doctor. He was able to put a stent in to stop the bleeding.

The bleeding was catastrophic and massive.......worse than on Nov.9 when she was flown here.

She was recovering....she didn't have surgery, she was awake, and they just used a fine needle, etc to fix it. They were getting ready to move her when she became unresponsive.

He thinks she had a stroke......either minor or massive they don't know yet.

She's in CT scanning her brain. Even if the scan looks good, it could take 48 hours before she shows sign of a massive stroke. She's in serious, serious condition.

He said "If she survives, it'll be miraculous."

That is SOME story, Jasdip! My, but your mom is tough!!!! I can't imagine my mom going through such a thing and having me sane during it all--I guess she passed down her good genes to you. I'm soooooooo glad they got her to a hospital that could handle all she threw at them. I'm really pulling for your mom, especially since she has miraculously made it this far. Thanks for checking in and please, never feel you're only venting. A lot of people care about how she and you are doing!

Thanks Country Bumpkin, keep the prayers coming! I was thinking today that throughout this whole ordeal, and it's been months, Mom has NEVER uttered a negative word. Never complained about pain, being miserable, (and I cried when the nurse left the room trying to put the PIC line in.....an intervenous feeding line, and she had to stop cause she found an obstruction. All Mom said was "what else can go wrong") That brought the tears down my face, seeing her with a half-inserted needle (among many iv tubes). Prior to this, I gotta tell you, she is not the most sunny side up, positive person. If it rains on a day when they go shopping, she'll say it "always" rains. But with this, she's as strong as they come. I asked her if she wanted to go ahead with the surgery and she does. Knowing the risk (possible death) she still wants to give it a shot. So that's mom.

Glad there's a diagnois on it. My big concern here was dehydration. With people or critters I get very concerned about that these days. I've been dehydrated a few times in the past 5 years or so and let me tell you, that is no fun. Really does strange things to you. Was hospitalized for it a year ago. It can happen quickly and easily. Vomiting and diarrhea will zap your fluid levels quickly even if you're trying to drink fluids. Here's wishing all of you the best. Keep drinking plenty of fluids and hope she has a speedy recovery. After a couple liters of fluid It can make a world of difference in how you feel. Oh and when I had the CT Scan I had to drink that junk. Talk about repulsive. I asked if they at least had some brandy to mix with it. Not sure if it would help but sure wouldn't have hurt. And BTW Jasdip, feel free to stop by for a butt-kicking anytime! Boy there's a joke here that writes itself but I'll refrain! :)

They definitely won't give her ice chips Cynic, in case one goes down the wrong way and gets stuck in her lung. Then it's back to square one. OJ, I've never posted her name, but what the heck..... Gotta tell you this story about my ex-hubs. He had a sense of humour as well. At the time, my cat of 14 yrs died. Mom wanted to give us something in memory of her. She was going to give us money to plant a tree, but we didn't have room for another one. I didn't think I'd get another cat, after losing Peanut, but it was lonely without one. We saw one in the paper, and mom gave us the $50 for it, if we liked him. One the way home, with the cat and his belongings, we didn't like his name, and wanted to re-name him. DH said "Let's call him after your Mom." I said You want to call the cat NORMA??!. He said.....Noooo, Biddy; after "The Old Biddy." LOLOL Mom thought that was hilarious, and Biddy was Biddy till he died this year.
