You didnt show a picture of the living room, but I really like your red/burgundy dining room. I think it compliments the living room color. I couldnt tell if the new dining room chair covers match the existing color in the dining room. If it does, I like it the way it is. Your dining room drapes pull the color from the dining room, I think having two different colors in each room, looks great. Can you show a picture of whats going on in the living room...is it across the foyer from the dining room or are the two rooms connected? By the way, the chairs look great!

gk, the picture of our dining room is very deceiving... it looks nice and sunny in that pic, but it gets about 1/2 hour of sun first thing in the morning (when I took the pic), and the rest of the day is a very dark, depressing room. I am very over the dark color.

When we first did those rooms, I did the "opposite" kind of thing.. living room- camel walls/red drapes, dining room- red walls/camel drapes. I liked it for a while, but am ready for a more subtle look in there.

Am I catching a little glimpse of the already repainted dining room???? Well, it did look pretty red, but I am sure it will still look very nice in the new color.

Love the new fabric - it really enhances the chairs. I can't really tell what the new wall color will be - is it a silvery blue?

I would paint below the chair rail. That's a lot of white on the wall. Your taste seems to run along the formal; however, if you want to make it more cheerful why don't you look for something whimsical and "unexpected" for the wall decor. Even though the room stays dark you can still be cheered when you enter the room.
One of my favorite "art" finds is in our dining room and it makes me smile every time I see it.

I love the new fabric for the chairs and totally understand the need for lighter. I never thought of your DR as "not bright with light."

I like the new color you are going with. I would paint above and below. I am not very good with art so I'll not comment.

Nope, we haven't started painting the dining room yet (the foreground in the living room picture is our foyer).

The new color is Walnut (the same camel color that is in the living room), and I do think I will do below the chair rail as well.... maybe. There is a tiny swatch of Whethersfield Moss above it in the one pic, but we will be using the color that is all over the wall behind the chair.

I remember seeing your living room before and I think it's gorgeous. What color will you use as an accent in your DR? The new fabric on the chairs looks like it has orange in it. Does it have burgundy also?

If You Give a Mouse a Cookie is a children's book. It is a "one thing leads to another" story. If you give a mouse a cookie he is going to ask for a glass of milk. When you give him the glass of milk he will ask for a napkin. then a mirror to make sure the milk is all wiped off. When he looks in the mirror he notices that his whiskers need a trim and so asks for a scissor.......

Something like that. It summarizes my decorating attempts!

A vote to see the new color above and below the chair rail for a new look. LOVE the fabric -- very warm and charming!

justretired: I know what you mean.
I needed to repair a dripping faucet. They said it would be better if we replaced the faucet. Well I couldn't replace the faucet without replacing that awful sink and my sink couldn't sit on that horrid countertop. Might as well put a frame around the mirror to match the countertop; and, of course, that light had to go. Paint the ceiling, put up some ceiling trim. Finally finished tiling the floors a couple of months ago! All due to the dripping faucet.

LOL... gotcha! Yup, that just about sums up my whole life!!!

The fabric does have orange in it.... here is a closer shot of the fabric:

It is hard to see in the photos, but there is lots of gold running thorugh it as well... All the color that comes up like Butterscotch is actually a metallic gold. I think the Walnut will pull out alot of the gold and make it really warm looking.

Dixiedo, haha! It never fails does it -- we fix up one thing and something else in the room looks horrid to us and needs fixed up too. Your DR and LR look fabulous! Your chairs are much better now, nice choice.

Oceanna, the flooring is Bellawood 3/4" Braziallian cherry in 3" planks. DH installed it a while ago and I just love it to pieces.
