It's Just One of those Days....

I'm making dinner for a friend and her family tonight. I made brownies, then started on the sauce for stuffed shells. Last time I had used my food processor we had company and someone had helped by cleaning up and putting a few things away - and the top part was jammed into the other part the wrong way -my husband had to pry it apart, I couldn't get it.

So today I need to process 4 cans of tomatoes - dump them all in, the processor leaks. I get a bowl, put a colander in it, then the tomatoes. I put the processor together again, dump the tomatoes back in, plug it in, nothing. I think I have it on backwards. I pour the tomatoes back in the bowl, switch the processor bowl around, dump them back in, plug it in. Nothing. So I take off the top, and am getting irritated, thinking I'm going to have to get online and purchase a new part because it's all screwed up now because of being jammed. Play with that for a while. Nothing. Then I remember that sometimes the outlet I'm plugging the processor into checks out, so I press the button on the outlet and it's fine. You never know. I plug it into another outlet just in case. Nothing. There is tomato juice splattered all over the place at this point and I decide well, there's nothing else I can try (swear, curse), I go to grab the plug ------- at which point I realize I have been plugging in the plug to the mixer this whole time . . . . . . the processor worked fine once it was plugged in, by the way.;0

:) I may be bad, but I am SO glad I am not the only one who does stuff like this. Not a cooking incident, but I had a problem locating my keys one time. I carried my keys on this HUGE keyring at that time, I could not find my keys anywhere & I was in a particular rush to leave, running late. After searching for what seemed like forever, I realized my keys were looped around my wrist. You would think all that jangling would have aroused some supicion of where they were, but nope....

ROFL... of my goodness! Sit down for at least 2 minutes, relax and sip up your favorite drink or beverage. The day will be better afterward and your efforts will be rewarded by satisfied diners. Don't forget to recap this incident at the table tonight so everyone would have a good laugh and appreciate your hard work for so much more.

Well, I personally think somebody needs to sit down and engineer a canning and preserving Biorhythm chart and that might save us all from canning days from hell. I have always called "putting by" my ritual of summer and I'd be like a marathon runner who is house bound and can't get their endorphine rush if I didn't do it each year. I've taken lots of ribbing for when I insist on canning enough food to last through a nuclear winter. Survivalist is one of the kinder names I remember used. Worst year for the verbal abuse was the summer before Y2K. LOL. I've kindly informed the disbelievers that the next time they sit at my table they really don't need to eat that blackberry pie or homemade noodles because they came from my stash. Of course we have all had 'one of those days' and the perishable nature of our bounty turns all of us into Silas Marners. I really feel for you all..been there and done that with siphoning and bursting jars, nice finished jars I've broken after the fact, kitchen thermostats reading one hundred and two, and all nighters. This year has been on one of the easier ones so far. (Can you see me knocking wood and crossing myself?) Only one meltdown. I was being so proud of the way I was scheduling my canning and freezing so that I'd catch each fruit and vegetable at its prime and still have time for a life. It didn't help that the pumpkins came on a month early, right when I was getting into the grapes..... or that all ten apple trees of ten different varieties hit their fruiting puberty at the same nanosecond. Add to that my late peach tree in golden-fruited splendor and I am having the hubby check it each day as he rides past it on his tractor, because that is my mother load of summer. Well, the morning after the night before......I goes up to get my peaches armed with two bushel baskets and find the tree nearly empty and a two bushels of deer poop under it around the still wet and sticky pits. Can you hear me crying? I am so obsessed I literally count the number of seeds on the ground so I know what I missed out on. I came away with seventy peaches, and two hundred and eighty sticky pits. Given that, I am in a foul mood. So, deciding not not let it ruin my day/week/month I come back to the kitchen to do up more apple drops. I had a couple bushels of them I had picked earlier and my poor spouse thought he was being helpful by gathering ANOTHER bushel and dumping them in the kitchen. So, I work up his and then ask him to dump the ones I had picked through and didn't want, and he thinks I am asking him to dump the ones he picked. Sigh. I get a lecture on 'wasting' my time working up the ones I picked and then dumping his. Uhm, I think I used the word "clueless" in my reply and we had our first argument in ages. It's all better now and today I did salsa. And tomorrow back to apples. And the next day more apples and the next day ever more apples I feel your pain.

Susie, I'm so sorry you're having a bad day. I wish I had some wise advice to give you, but all I can tell you is I completely understand when you say 20 years makes a difference. Although I've been reading this forum for several years, we have yet to start our reno so I don't know a solution to your 1 inch flooring dilemma--cutting down the toe kick by an inch is the only thing that comes to mind. Take the day off, and treat yourself to a little "me" time. I hope things look better tomorrow. I'm sorry for the loss of your nephew. That kind of loss you really never get over, and some days it can hurt like it just happened yesterday. Although it hurts, allow yourself to remember all the wonderful times you had with your nephew. He was blessed to have such a loving and devoted aunt, just as your life was blessed by him. Take care of yourself. Wishing you a good night's sleep tonight.

Good morning, Seems like everyone is busy, busy, busy--or like me and not having much to post about! LOL Punk, I'm glad you got your computer fixed, I know how frustrating that can be! I just messed something up on mine--was trying to organize some pictures of ideas I had saved and ended up losing a bunch of the ones I already had saved. I know they are still on my computer somewhere, just have to find out where I accidently sent them! LOL (Can you tell I'm not computer literate?) Anj, so good to hear from you. Things are so busy at your house--gives me a mental image of one of those little hamsters spinning on that wheel! LOL If you've already hurt your back, how in the world are you going to move boxes and put up the Christmas tree? You better have the kids form a line and pass the boxes from one to the other to get them where they need to be--like a bucket brigade! LOL DIL asked to host Thanksgiving this year so I will just be bringing whatever she assigns to me. She is really into healthy food so other than the turkey, I'm not sure what's on the menu. We always like homemade noodles, so DH asked me to volunteer to bring those--hey, you gotta have some starches, right? Our "traditonal" family meal contained lots of starches--noodles, mashed potatoes, stuffing, corn, etc. I'm planning on buying a turkey to cook here at home too, like having those good turkey sandwiches and other leftovers the rest of the week! You are right about my posts! Posted pics on Discussions, and my post for here ended up on exchanges. I've got to stop posting when I'm in a hurry so I can pay better attention to what I am doing! LOL I finished two projects at least, now I need to select one of my many waiting patterns and get busy on the next thing. I really enjoy the painting part, but have such a hard time deciding what to paint and what surface to paint it on! Decisions, decisions! LOL We are all truly blessed with so much, but if you read PF's post this morning, you know she is hurting over the problem her GS is having. Let's all keep them in our thoughts and prayers too. Luvs

Oh dear CP. I'm imagining your dog's narrative of this all lol You wouldn't believe what my Mom just did. She scared the c**p out of me. Here I was hanging around the kitchen waiting for any scraps. She always gives me apple scraps. I mean what was she thinking? All of a sudden there was this big boom and things started flying. I got myself out of there pronto. I mean, I know I'm supposed to stick around to protect her, but it's one thing to bark at strange people and make sure they won't hurt my Mom. It's quite another thing when things explode. When I saw her later, she actually tasted kinda good. I did enjoy licking her head, glasses and hair. My finger is fine, except for the burn between my thumb and index finger. Apparently my mini has been using my oven mitt as a chew toy and the hole was only revealed when I lifted a hot pan out of the oven. Which means beth09 is so right! barncatz, I think your burnt finger is reason enough to have to stay out of that kitchen for at a minimum the next week. And of course for your troubles, you need to be taken to only the best restaurants for dinner. Thanks Mamagoose. I took the chicken way out tonight. I'm making ceviche for dinner. Nothing to cook and any scraps are going in the garbage for now. The latest is my foreman is on vacation 12/20-01/03. Oh no, I'm assuming this means you won't be in before 2018 and no CO? I'm so very sorry. I'd hoped not to hear this news. No CO although they are looking into whether or not Hurricane Irma is allowing us an extra month. Keep your fingers crossed because they swear to me they can get me a CO by January. I'm not holding my breath and it's not a done deal with Tallahassee regarding them allowing us to get the exemptions. The photo of the batwing sink was all I needed to see. How could anything be worse than that? Well that's what I thought last year when we first moved into this rental. Boy did I find out the other day! I thought to myself. Oh dear, but it was. Heart going out to you. These things always seem to happen at the holidays. But it will be such a good story at next year's Thanksgiving dinner! Actually it was a good story at this years Thanksgiving dinner. :)

I hope we're supposed to laugh. (LOL) I know you might not be right now as you try to get things ready for your dinner party, but tomorrow this will be very funny. Okay, maybe after a drink or two...

Reminds me of the time I think it was tricia who "strained" her gravy by not putting anything under the colander and lost everything down the drain. I thought it was a funny story - until I did the same exact thing a few days later. NOT funny.

You have my sympathy. I made homemade lasagna noodles yesterday. I hadn't used my pasta maker in a while and was fuzzy on the properties of pasta dough. I rolled out all of my sheets of lasagna noodles and floured them and set them on top of one another. Wrong! By the time I returned to assemble the layers, my lovely noodle sheets had become one with each other. A single mound of pasta dough once more! I had to roll the noodles all out again as I assembled the lasagna.

Oh Blue, I'm so sorry that you've had that kind of day:-) I think we've all had those days, where you wish the rewind button for life would actually work! I hope your day improves, and you end up with an awesome weekend!

Lori, I had to laugh (just a little) at the image of the gravy running down the drain. It was so NOT FUNNY, I'm guessing, especially if you had dinner guests waiting.

Barnmom, I bet the second time around they were even more beautiful:-)

Nope, I've never done that. Ahem. And that's my story, I can tell it how I want it.

And I've never poured chicken broth through a colander without a bowl under it either. Maybe.

That is funny. It makes you want to turn around, walk out of the kitchen, drive to the local deli, and BUY dinner for your friend and her family.

I came into work yesterday to find that I'd left my coffee pot on all night. Burnt gunk. Yuck.

Got it cleaned up, new water, made coffee.

Turned around to pour a cup only to find I'd poured the clean water through day old grounds. Barely looked like weak tea. Grrr..

Back to the sink, more water, new grounds, it's now 10am, I've been at work nearly 2 hours and I can finally have a cup of coffee!

TGIF..............

oh man--how AGGRAVATING! but i'm sure this tale would have made your friends appreciate your meal even more, as well as give them a good laugh!

and anyone who cooks at all has had more than a couple of those moments. i think there were about 8 of us here for a late afternoon lunch and due to the folks that were coming, i planned a "meat" dish and a fish dish. my husband had stopped at the store the night before to pick up a few haddock fillets which i was stuffing with crab or something. anyway, i was replenishing the appetizers and a friend asked what she could do to help and i asked her to rinse the fish. she opened up the paper and and it got quiet. and i turned around and said "what is it?" she said "san, the fish is bad. BAD." it was a long trip back to the store with my not very fresh fish to get replacements and back home again to finish the meal for my friends! really pretty annoying, even if it is funny now!

It's Just One of those Days....
