Hi buehl - I'm planning on posting my kitchen in the next few days so this is timely for me. As I discovered GW and its many wonderful features (as outlined so well by your helpful guide), having lots of detail was very helpful., When I first started looking at the FKB, it was more about the images, but as we progressed on our reno I found that having the ability to search by feature/brand, etc., was so helpful. My challenge is that I have a *lot* of pix...donÂt want to bore people....

I may have Q's for you as I do the same exercise!

I love to see the details. I like when people list more details as opposed to less. Even if it is a big list I think it is easy to scan and find the areas of particular interest. What I am annoyed by sometimes on the kitchen gallery is when I do see something I like and the person has not listed what it is and then I spend way too long trying to figure it out. Looking forward to seeing your kitchen!

More details are better than less. I want everything down to your lightbulb brand :oP (But that's just cuz you're so cute when you're working) :oP

Another vote for details, though if it's getting too cluttered to read you could leave out model numbers. Since those are constantly changing they're not as useful in the long run. But model names, color names, etc.? That's what the TKO live for!!

I love all the details; it helps tremendously! I haven't settled on appliances yet, and though they may change year-to-year, I think the model numbers do help. And what's important to one person might be skimmed over by another.

Not to put the pressure on, but you help so many people that your FKB entry will be one of the most highly read. And, IMHO, everyone will want to read every detail!

I always like details. I just like them listed out so they are easy to read or scan . . . something you always do.

Another vote for MORE detail. If people are not interested they can skip reading it, but for the rest of the TKO people more is better.

I'm in the same boat Buehl! I'm personally not going to do all the details in the post itself. I created a separate "blog" with all the details as I'm also a detail-oriented person. Yet, I know that sometimes I like to just skim over the photos of finished kitchens myself.

What I did was do a short photo gallery with the main kitchen photos. Then I followed it up with all the details including detailed shots of the countertops, hardware, etc. My last section has the "lessons learned" and tips. I gave people the ability to go back to my GW post via links in the blog between each main section.

I am all for detail...It is nice to see the big picture at first when you are trying to figure out cabinet colors & countertops....but then you get into lighting & cabinet pulls & window treatments...all the little stuff.

What do folks think about posting layout info? By that I mean any architectural drawings or cabinet layouts which include dimensions? People always want to know how big an island is or the distance between different cabinets. I am not sure if that is overkill.

As someone planning the final details before demo, I refer to the details A LOT. When I see a kitchen I like or looks similar to my vision, I always check for details and find way too many don't list them :(

Since we are doing a budget facelift/remodel I really want to know where someone got their knobs/pulls... what color are the cabinets painted.... what is your BS comprised of.... for those of us planning when you DO see a detail, it can be a very ahhhhhhhh moment, because then we can just choose to buy it!

I created a Photobucket gallery for the images of products my Mom used that I have collected and I am thinking of just inserting the text over the image but haven't really tested it out yet. It is kind of a pain but I am far enough along that I will probably do it but it won't be certain until it actually gets posted.

I'm in the 'more is better' camp as far as details, though model numbers probably not so much. I like when people post layouts, but I'm not good at reading architectural plans. A more basic layout, like you see in real-estate listings, is fine for me.

Details! The more the better! A separate link is fine, but include them all if you can. I'm in the process of making all these decisions and the details on the FKB have been invaluable.

Also, I'm very excited to see some of the kitchens that are going to be posted shortly!

Thanks everyone for the encouragement and your agreement that details are desirable! I'm glad I'm not the only one who likes the nitty-gritty!

BTW...up until this post I have never had problems having replies emailed to me and wondered why others were. Well according to my email, only 3 of you have replied (IglooChic, Lyno, & Ehaberlin)! I guess I've now joined the ranks with the rest of you and am wondering where those emails are! I'm curious about whether my reply will be emailed to me!

Don't forget to post about the flooring, I LOVE when people tell you which wood/tile type, manufacturer, where they bought it, etc. are included!

I like to see all the details too. Reminds me of when I was perusing this site and was examing a close-up of a door knob - husband thought I'd lost it. But seriously, the more detail the better.

Love the details! OMG! It's because of the details, my kitchen and bath have taken almost a year to complete. I see sooo many beautiful kitchens and baths here. Thanks to all the fellow detailists and "particular" GWers out there. I have changed/decided on materials and appliances based on everyones feedback and choices. The more specs the better. What's taking the longest is getting the pictures organized!

Details! And not just the obvious stuff like cabinets, countertops, tile, and appliances. I want to know the paint color. The small appliances. The paper towel holders! (Yes, I found my paper towel holder based on a finished kitchen post from someone here on GW!)

I can't imagine that there's such a thing as too much detail. No one has to read the parts they're not interested in. But when you see the thing in the picture that's THE thing, you need to know what it is!!! Brand, item name, part number, whatever it takes to identify it.

And THANK YOU to everyone who posts in the FKB! As well as to starpooh for maintaining it! It's a wonderful resource.

Details, details, details! It is so much easier if I see an element I like to know right away the exact details so I can being investigating a purchase or option.

Details! As someone in the planning stage, it is beyond helpful to be able to click on a picture I like in the FKB and get all the nitty gritty about the selections.
