Your workmanship is very detailed and the finished drawer looks absolutely wonderful! I think the idea of stencilling to mimic the leather inset is ok, but those are usually on desks, not chests--- at least, that I have seen. But based on what you have done so far, any way you finish it the piece will be wonderful! I love an English scrubbed pine look.

I'm so glad that you all like it! That was my ulterior motive, was that if people liked it, I could summon myself to keep going.

rafor, I WISH I was that patient, but I'm not. Although, I SO love projects like this that I will stick to it til the end. The bureau still needs some structural work, but these drawers will get done!

I need to get more blue paint, and my newest dog that I adopted in mid-November surprised me Sunday after I had cleaned up my work area in my office, by grabbing the gold acrylic while I was in the kitchen...Imagine coming into the living room and seeing a river of gold craft paint on 3 Karastan rugs, and the hardwood floors! I screamed and Riley looked at me wondering what had set me off.

Here's the goober wearing a lid from a covered wastebasket that I have in my office to keep him from grabbing things out of it. You can see that it doesn't bother him in the least to get it stuck on him while he's scoping out the contents. I've resorted to putting that wastebasket on a chair, and the lid wearing has slowed down some. If anything will teach me patience, it'll be him.

That bureau looks amazing so far! In awe of your vision, and your talent.

Wow--just beautiful. My DD is just starting a project this evening, and it will need some type of wood filler so I'm just wondering what you use since your things look amazing? Her dresser will be painted also (except perhaps the legs), and she said she heard someone suggest using bondo. Do you have any suggestions? Your talents are such a delight to behold.

At first I thought, oh no, she's not going to paint that beautiful bureau... then saw all the patching you had to do so okay, I'm fine now. That is stunning! I totally love it.

I am off to look around my house to see if I have anything that I can paint...

What will you do with the rest of the bureau? Paint it solid blue? (I like the idea for the top.)

I can't wait to see the finished product. I don't have much of a creative streak so I doubly enjoy seeing all the wonderful projects that get posted here.

But please tell - were you able to get the gold acrylic paint off your rugs?

Believe me Sue, if that piece looked as good in person as in his CL photo, there wouldn't be any paint touching it!

It sort of swayed as he and I carried it to the car, and when I got it home I could give it a good inspection. UGH! But, I love to re-do things, so I knew with enough wood filler, sanding and some shoring up, it had potential.

What I do with the rest of it is still up in the air, but each side has an inset common on these pieces and I may stencil the inset area and do the 'frame' around it in the solid blue. That blue paint is SO SHEER! I even primed the drawers with a dark chalk paint (Annie Sloan 'Aubusson') but I do three coats of the Ben Moore to get it even.

Commode Hortense Napoleon III in the second row in white on the left and black on the right. I also saw these in one of my home dec magazines on painted furniture and they cost over $16k each! I'm sure their 'fleurs' are each done by hand, though.

Sujafr, I stick to an old favorite wood filler, which is Elmer's Carpenter's Wood Filler. I buy it in a 16 oz. tub, but it comes in smaller containers. It's interior/exterior, and I use a plastic putty knife to slather it on. It sands easily, has no smell, and I can get it off my hands with water. Once I open the tub, I re-seal it carefully, but I store the tub in a zip lock bag. If the filler starts to get a bit dry over time, I just put a bit of water in, mix it up well, and it's like 'buttah'.

You are so talented and have the patience of a Saint to do that stenciling. I would never be able to do it. That piece will be so gorgeous when you finish.

maire cate, I'm sorry that I missed your question, as I was writing my reply when you asked.

I think have most of it out. After the primal scream, I got water and towels right away and scrubbed as hard as I could quickly. That craft paint dries so quickly that I thought I was going to lose three great rugs. There may be a bit left in them, as it's still streaked on the wooden floors, but I hope that 99% of it is gone.

Today I caught him chewing something in here and opened his mouth. It was the cap from the paint that he chewed up Sunday. I don't know where he had stashed it, but he can't get it any more.

is the purpose of the wax just to give it an aged look??

Hi, bee! No, it protects the paint, too. I know it looks very shiny in that pic above, but it's actually a softer looking finish than poly would be, and so quick and easy to apply and buff out. I use the wax or an antique oil finish on just about everything I do - mostly wax. I am always striving for an older look, and I think the wax gives it.

Gorgeous, just gonna be gorgeous! funny I have a silly pic of Cooper when he pranced downstairs wearing a trashcan lid much like your pup! Glad you got out the paint. An FYI that you might need with your new silly pup- ball point ink- comes out of Karastans beautifully with hairspray. Red, blue, black ink you name it. pens are now kept securely in drawers never to be left out - they must be super tasty.
Can't wait to see the finished chest- I imagine you will find that the stencilling goes faster as you go along.
